I would boycott Target if they funded an overt racist, as far as I know, Emmer is not a racist. He is an agent of the homophobic right wing....I think that is bad enough to justify a boycott of Target until they make an equal contribution to Kelliher....if she'll take their money!

SO, MN has had GOP governors since 1986, 25 years later, MN is still in economical crap, and target thinks more GOP will be better for the state?

Or Target thinks a GOP governor would be better for the executives of Target?

I would bet a million bucks on the latter.

I understand and appreciate people buying and voting their consciences. I do not accept, sanction, or understand facists attempting to manipulate the electorate's emotions with the politics of division. If that's the road we're going down at least let us all be prepared for our destination.

You make some mistakes. You assume that because the left screams the loudest, that they are in the majority. A few things you could have added to your column:
---What about people not shopping at Best Buy due to their censorship of the word "Christmas" (yes, they deny it, but I worked there and saw the emails).
---People boycotting St Paul after Coleman boycotted Arizona.

And you failed to mention the large some of cash that Target and Best Buy transfer to gay-rights groups. Those groups want to control all aspects of these businesses. As a Catholic, I resent that money going to fund anti-Catholic organizations.

Freedom Lover, is Target a facist when they give money to gay-rights groups? Or when they let thier Gay-American employees use the Target logo superimposed over the Rainbow flag?

Chris, do you think it is a good idea to have a very liberal Democrat legislature and a very liberal Democrat governor? I see Emmer as a check. I sometimes think the DFL parties biggest supporter (behind Big Labor) is the Sioux Falls development agency.

Hey, did you know Emmer and Barry Obama have the same opinion of gay marriage?

The gays are exaggerating this whole thing. This has NOTHING to do with gay marriage, it has do do with Target not toeing the democrat line.

This column had no place in the business section. It was a political piece and amazingly enough, Mr. Lotterman, not ALL Minnesotans are part of the DFL or are single-issue voters. I am an independent and truly vote the best candidate for the position, yet I was incredibly offended by the assumptions made in this horrible piece of "journalism". Target is a fabulous Minnesota company that is extremely generous to the communities it serves and has excellent hiring practices that promotes diversity of all kinds. I don't work there or own stock there, but I sure intend to patronie that sort of a company. If money had been sent the was of DFL, this would never have hit your column. PLEASE keep your political rants off the business page.

The real irony is the great grandson of the company's founder is the front runner on the DFL side running against Tom Emmer.

Hey, did you guys know that Mystic Lake casino just gave $50,0000 to WIN Minnesota, which is a Democrat front group running those anti-Emmer ads? Hey Lotterman, are you going to have an article bashing Mystic Lake?

Lets see. Mystic Lake gives $50K to a left wing group. Group funds liberal Democrats. Therefore, Mystic Lake is anti-Catholic. Hey, our side can do this also.

JackyBlue, I get the print edition of the St Paul paper (and its a pretty good paper overall). But two complaints:
-Their wire service stores suck
-Lotterman is a political writer who somehow got on the business page. He is straight down the line big gov't liberal Democrat. The goal of his Sunday column is to get Democrats elected to office, and then destroy the business climate.

Gubernatorial campaign
In 2010, the Target Corporation gave $150,000 to MN Forward, an independent expenditure group that used the money to run TV ads supporting Tom Emmer's candidacy.[9] The ad portrays Emmer as a pro-business, anti-tax candidate and as "the father of seven children."[10] Gay rights groups objected to Target's donation to MN Forward and perceived endorsement of Emmer's candidacy, citing Emmer's support for a state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.[11] In response, Target maintained its "unwavering" support for the gay community.
[edit] Political positions
[edit] Pharmacy conscience clause
He has supported "conscience clause" legislation that would allow pharmacists to refuse to dispense contraception.[12] He also sponsored a constitutional amendment that would have allowed Minnesota to opt out of federal laws.[13]
[edit] Abortion
Emmer is anti-abortion.[14]
[edit] Taxes
Emmer supports business rights ahead of organized labor, and he is strongly opposed to tax increases.
[edit] Tip Credit
After visiting a restaurant in St. Paul Minnesota, Emmer was asked if supported the idea of a tip credit. His response was yes.[15] However, Emmer never stated what his implementation of this plan would be.[16] A Media storm erupted, with multiple sources then reporting that Emmer wanted to lower the minimum wage.[17] Emmer hosted a town hall at Ol’Mexico Restaurant in Roseville Minnesota to hear from servers in the industry. Participants were not screened.[18] The mainstream media has since stopped reporting that Emmer wants to lower the minimum wage and instead has changed their language to “tip credit”. On July 13, 2010, Emmer announced a proposal to eliminate the tax on tips in Minnesota.[19]
[edit] Drunk driving
In 2009, Emmer, formerly convicted of driving under the influence, sponsored a bill that would shorten the period of license revocation for driving while impaired and for refusing to take a sobriety test. Additionally, though "suspected drunken drivers [currently] face revocation before they go to court," Emmer's bill would delay revocations until after conviction.[20] Supporters of Emmer's bill have said "it's needed because pre-conviction revocations penalize drivers before proving they're guilty."[21] Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the head of the Minnesota DWI task force opposed the legislation[22] because it would allow arrested drivers to continue to drive during the time between their arrest and hearing.[23] Emmer's own history of drunk driving became an issue in relation to his bill.[24] Emmer was convicted of driving under the influence-related offense in 1981; two other charges for DWI were dropped in 1991 when Emmer pled guilty to careless driving.[25]

Emmer, however, could be proving to be a somewhat weaker GOP nominee in even a Republican-friendly year, due to his hard-line conservative positions on such issues as nullifying federal laws, and his public gaffes -- the most notable being his discussion of overpaid waiters making over $100,000 per year in tips and hurting their employers. That line led to some highly amusing attempts at damage control, such as Emmer waiting tables and holding a town hall with servers that did not go well. In addition, gay-rights activists are mobilizing against businesses that are supporting Emmer's campaign.

Target must employ MBA's and it shows. Any idiot can tell you that paying a bribe direct to eather party will get you in trouble with some sector of the public. Using good political ettequite one should use a money launderer from a PAC to do the payoff. Your customers will be clueless to your real agenda.
