"Up against the wall Fed man! It's time for the Marijuana smoker to frisk you. Do you have anything we should know about like needles, knives, semi-auto pistols? You're goin for a ride downtown, Punk! Get ready to strip naked and bend over for our male hairstylist intern doing booking into our makeshift Hemp fiber jail to house all the opponents of Marijuana decriminalization."

Ya know, it's not illegal due to psychoactive content. The lawmakers aren't THAT stupid to believe that somehow marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol. They know better.

It's the millions and millions of dollars spent on lobbyists every year to keep it illegal. Who spends the lobby money? Pharmaceutical and plastics companies, primarily. Scan a boat chandlery catalogue in the "ropes and lines" section. Anything in there that is not a manmade, petroleum based fiber? Nylon? Dacron? Plastic? What would happen if non-psychoactive hemp was brought back into the mainstream of fiber production like it was in WWII. Think it would affect Dupont's bottom line? Follow the money. That's a fact.

Actually, the most lobbying money is spent by the alcohol companies. They don't want the competition. Pharmaceuticals and chemical companies are close behind though.

Next time you see a group like "Partnership for a Drug Free America" or some other nice sounding name, look and see who the backers are. It is usually alcohol and drug companies. There are misleading you folks, and many are falling for the propoganda.

Ridiculous. Pot doesn't "treat" anything. At best it is a temporary pain killer.

Dave, do you recommend Thunderbird Wine for its "medicinal value" also? Cocaine's value as a pain killer is even stronger than pot.

I don't know about severed digits or genital lesions, but I've been dry nine months after twenty years of heavy drink. Without the help of Trainwreck and the like, I strongly doubt I would have made it this far.

Ridiculous???
Did you read these studies?

In August, The British Journal of Cancer published the results of a study that found THC (the main active component in marijuana) is effective in fighting prostate cancer. Reportedly, pot attacks prostate cancer cell types that do not respond to the usual hormone treatments.

In April of 2007, Harvard University researchers released the results of a study that concluded THC cuts tumor growth in common lung cancers and reduces the ability of the cancer to spread.

That sounds like a lot more than a temporary pain killer to me.

I am sorry if the emerging facts do not coalign with your prejudice.

I don't believe Dave is recommending anything. He's merely done a piece citing multiple scientific studies proving cannabis has medicinal properties. Which are all in various peer reviewed journals available for you to view if you would bother to educate yourself. If thats too much to handle then go for the over-marketed under-researched pink pill.

The US government already holds the patent on marijuana, US patent number 6630507, issued 10/07/03.

What do you suppose the reason for this? Sooner than later, everyone will be forced to smoke only government issued weed, and then the US govt will be fully in control of everyone's mind. Just think of this.

Thank you for the TRUTH!
Now----Eurekaians need to replace the Marina/Home Depot (bad) idea with a Medical Cannabis Research Center; will bring a nice group of professionals that could raise the bar for local kids(Homestore vs. prof. research institute), will bring need jobs without displacing local business.
Now is the time!

Wow. Hannah's a little whacked, but she's right. The patent is for synthetic production of non-psychoactive canibidiol (sp?) as an antioxidant, among other things. Done under Bush, and it appears it might have been done to prevent anyone from using naturally occurring compounds by growing it. The U.S. Gov't (or a "friend of George"??) owns the rights to the compound. Cute.
