Eureka to hold public meeting on Skate Park

In order to ensure that the Eureka Skate Park opens as quickly as possible, Councilman Jeff Leonard will be holding a public meeting next week to get public input on park rules and regulations.

Councilman Larry Glass said closing the skate park after dark seems counter-intuitive.

”I thought it was to give an alternative to coming down to Old Town to skate,” he said at the meeting.

Thats right larry, no skaters in Old Town by your overprice store. But at night they will be back. Larry Gl-ass!

Is that skateboard the new meth hang out for kids in Eureka? Great.

they're going to make this waaaaay to complicated now. KISS !

- Dawn to Dusk until there are lights.
- No pads or helmets required for 18+(otherwise they'll be spending tax dollars to police this rule too often, when they could be fighting the meth, etc)
- No BMX bikes(or bikes period)! Sorry guys, they don't mix with kids on skateboards.

I grew up skateboarding in Eureka and now have a skate park-advocacy non-profit in Oregon (Benton County Skateboarding Alliance).
As stated above, it doesn't have to be so complicated. In Oregon, under 16 years of age must wear a helmet; otherwise, there is no safety gear required. This works.
Having an age restriction on a certain level of tricks?? That is crazy.
Many parks up here do not allow BMX bikes for many reasons.
Lights are a must, but they can be added later.
Just open the park already!
