I understand that people are concerned about 2nd hand smoke. But I think this is a little to much. The govt should have more things to worry about then me smokin in my car or truck with kids in it. The lawmakers should worry more about how much money they are spendin then worry about me smokin in my car with my kids in it.You don't see the govt makein it illegal for people overweight to eat do you.. Just a pun. But think about it. If they can pass a law to stop people from smokin in their car what next. The govt is takin away more and more of the people's right every day n you don't even know it. As smokers we have to go outside to smoke.. we are looked at 2nd class people...just my thoughts

The government of Maine is here to help "the people";or so it is said. I'm wondering why they want to focus on our personal habits rather than our housing, roads, elderly, social security, heating costs, etc. Priorities are a tad jumbled. I seem to consider "smoking in a vehicle" down at the bottom of that list. Yes,Larry, I too am tired of being considered the odd man out because I choose to smoke. Unless the government decides to make smoking in a home with children illegal also, then what is the use of banning smoking in the car with children. This is just going to far.

I have to agree with the both of you. At what point do we get to run our own lives. Now they want to add another dollars worth of tax to each pack we buy. Enough is enough. Didn't we already fight for our right for the "pursuit of happiness"? And what about taxation without representation. When are they going to get that we are adults and are in charge of our own lives? It's very frustrating!

Well let's see we have to buckle up now or we are fined yet children on school buses aren't seat belted. We can not get behind a wheel of a car and smoke now or we will be fined yet someone can get behind a wheel of a car drunk and kill someone and maybe they will spend 4 year's in jail. If you want to go out and enjoy a nice meal in a restaurant you can pay the high price tag but god forbid you want a cigerette after. You can go to a bar and get drunk but you can't light up a cigerette. When did smoking a legal cigerette become illegal??

I believe the comment made by the last is completely ridiculous and ignorant. NO, you can't get in your car and drive, that is illegal too! Maybe you were drunk while that law was passed. As for making your own decision, ask the kid in the car with you if they want asthma or smoke blowing in their face. How about ash burns, it's a scientific fact that if that window is open, ash will travel to the back. I'm sure they won't ask you for that. I DO AGREE however that the state should spend more time worknig on issues that affect the masses not the few smokers, the comment about eating and being obese, good point.

I think the state is really overstepping their boundaries. I vehicle is a person's privatley owned personal property, they should be able to smoke or do whatever in it they choose to do.
It's like everyone is out for the smokers, we have all of the sudden became the blacks of the 50's!
This is the man's way of stomping out smoking. They can't outlaw it so their forcing us through the high prices and discrimination to quit.

What will they do next? Ban smoking in homes.

The topic is smoking with your child in the car. Its a sad world we live in when the goverment cares more for your children than you do.
Your not black, your all just ignorant!
You all cry because the price of cigarettes are to high and you can't smoke in public buildings. Do you think your child will cry when they find out they have lung cancer from your stupid 2nd hand smoke.
Grow up and take care of your children, give them the life they deserve, all of you.

P.S. When you get lung cancer from smoking don't have a benifit dance and expect people to feel sorry for you, remember you where fighting for your right to smoke! Enjoy

I think smoking should be banned in gay bath houses also, because every time I go to those, I get an itchy throat from the cigarette smoke and an itchy sore butt, from, well, you know.

When are they or...why don't they... go after the overweights? Look at all those health problems, especially in children.

Could it be that many of them could not pass muster?

Topic at hand is protecting them from 2nd hand smoke, but I do agree with Healthy Healthy.
We moniter what our children eat, my oldest is five and has never had fast food. They are active everyday and are fed good food 80% of the time... we all need ice cream and candy to survive!
A child that is obese and exposed to 2nd hand smoke is just a sign of plain neglect from the parent, they deserve to grow up as healthy as possible regardless of their parents nasty habits.
I wish some people would see what they are doing to thier children.

The last time I was in Maine it seemed that everyone smoked. Sounds like the folks up north need to get educated about the hazards of smoking, not to mention the $$$$ associated with it.
