Who else remembers the mysterious disappearance of Susan Sunday in 1972? Her dog was found but she wasn't until much later.

She was babysitting on Stockton road and went missing for 10 months or more. Her body was found nude and decomposed in the woods at least 10 months later.

Dental records matched her.

No one one was ever charged.

Google of The Home News and Central Post go nowhere.

Any memories, any help, please post.

I think I know who killed her. He died in prison for another simuliar murder. We questioned him but he was a nut job who would'nt give it up.

i wonder if the prosecutors ever questioned Jack Owen Houseman? He killed Patty Kuhlthau of Milltown in 1977...? He had connections in the vicinity...

I remember it well. I lived across the street from her and went to school with her every day. There was a rash of home invasions on Wheeler Road at the same time. Someone came into our house one night three nights after she disappeared and our dog chased him out. When my mother went up and down the street the next day asking questions she found several other families whose homes this guy had entered at night. He was a high school student who lived on Wheeler. He and his mother moved that winter before they found Susan's body in the spring. I have always wondered if the two were related. As I recall, she was not baby sitting, but had taken a book to a clearing in the woods behind her house where she liked to read. Her dog was with her and he returned later that evening with the leash cut. I heard her mother or sister scream when the dog came back home. The story has always haunted me.

I went to school with her and have often wondered if the killer was ever caught and am comforted that other people remember her and are also concerned. What does it take for something like Cold Case Files or any other organization or group of people to reinvestigate this case? There must be some evidence that can be retested for DNA or other new technology. She deserves closure.

WOW... I just watched the lovely bones. Have u seen it? I was just telling my husband about Susan Sunday and how speculation was that their was a serial killer who traveled around the Tri State Area. THe girl in the movie 's name was Suzie Salmon... Do you know if the book was based on true stories? THey all occurred in the years preceding and procedding Susan's murder.

I remember hearing about it but I didn't know her at all. Recently I was thinking about it and wondering if they ever caught the person that did it. As far as I know there was never another abduction in the KP So. Bruns. area, at least not that I ever heard of.

So many rumors circulated back then in the Kendall Park area. There were many theories going around. There used to be an old abandon house deep in the woods across from the KPFAS. It was was speculated that transients who drank and did drugs squatted in the house. That is not implying that they did it.

Susan was my babysitter. It was requested that the case be re-examined in 2008. Not sure what came of it, but obviously they didn't solve it.

I remember her in HS also. She does derserve closure on this.. There was another murder in Franklin Twp in 1982. Sharon Thor was murdered and they never solved it either. She was 16 at the time. Does anyone remember that one?

Jack Owen Houseman murdered my childhood friend, Patti Kuhlthau, in 1977, in the woods in Milltown. His Mother lived in the trailer park on Rte #1 that backs up to the woods where the Sunday girl went missing. "gotta wonder. Jack Owen Houseman was a repeated sex offender, who kept getting paroled; he died in prison for Patti's murder...

According to the Daily Register (Red Bank, NJ), Susan's body was found December 15, 1971. She had been missing 10 weeks, not 10 months, having disappeared Oct. 1.

I was 11 at the time in Middletown, and do not recall the case. I do however peruse the online archive of the Register out of nostalgia.

I went to school with Sue in western NY and remember her as a kind, intelligent and happy girl. She is remembered 42 years later. I was hoping to search her name and find that the crime had been solved, sadly no. I am happy to see that she may be gone from this place but truly not forgotten.

I remember him, I believe his name was Chris Y. His name was associated with a number of break-ins and peeping, but I don't recall his name ever being associated with Susan's murder.

Hi I am Patti Kuhlthau's sister I wonder if Houseman was responsible for others as well. I really wish they had DNA testing that the have today so the other families could have closure as well. In 1981 I was dating a guy who lived in the same neighborhood as Sharon and became good friends with her. I could not believe it when Sharons life was taken so similarly to Patti's. The FBI is working on Sharons cold case and I was contacted by one of the agents a few years back. I hope they catch this person so the Thor family can have the closure they so rightfully deserve. Today I learned that the house that my sisters murderer and his accomplice (his girlfriend at the time) burnt down Saturday. My heart breaks for the families that lived there and their pets that perished. But for me the dwelling being gone and never have to see it again is a relief of sorts.

PMK, I think I know you. I grew up in East Brunswick and I was friends with you and you told me about Patti. I think about her every time I pass that area. I knew you when you knew Chris H. Do you have another sister that lives in Monroe Twp.?

Hey, is this Pam or Peggy?!
This is debbie, yes, the Pastor's daughter.
The weird thing is that I had only heard about the Susan Sunday murder in the papers, when it was a cold case, and then, the next day, I was in a quilt shop and a woman who worked there told me that she lived in Kendall Park,(where I now live) and then, in talking - she was Susan Sunday's sister- and she explained where they lived, in KP,, and I SWEAR, the hair on my neck stood up! I called the Middlesex County Prosecutor that day and bugged him to look into it... Just knowing where Houseman's mother lived- even back then, the property backed onto the woods that they found her in!! it COULD very well have been him?
