I moved to Homer six years ago from Seatttle. There are no ice floes in Kachemak Bay or the Cook Inlet -- so I am wondering where the writer of this article saw otters on an ice floe... AND, frozen north? Puhlease. Homer is called the "banana belt" of Alaska. The weather is fairly mild -- New England and Minnesota have way colder and more difficult weather.

Well ... actually there are lots of ice floes in Cook Inlet. At least up by Kenai ... the Inlet is often jammed solid with them in winter. I used to ride them in the mouth of the Kenai river for kicks when I was a kid.[Which doesn't mean that the writer saw a pile of sea otter playing on one down Homer way.] However ... I must take exception to the claim that Homer is as far WEST as one can get on the road system! Assuming there aren't any roads that wander far enough west from the Parks Hwy. to surpass it ... Anchor Point clearly takes the title ... it is much further west than Homer. Even Ninilchik beats it for "westerliness".
