I have a place on Kenai Keys road which is close to Feuding lane. I have seen some lynx but not any thing
larger. Saw a lynx 2 times last summer and once got real close to it as I was walking on one side of our parked boat and the lynx was on the other side as I came up to the front of the boat so did the lynx it just looked and me and I to it and it ran up the hill and out of sight. Interesting thought that we might have a local mountian lion. I will have to keep my eyes open and watch my dogs a little more closely.

It is true, and the Fish and Game biologists are aware of it. There have been multiple sightings by a variety of sober individuals over the last 8 years of both a black mountain lion and a tan colored one often in close proximity to each other. All of these sightings have been in the greater Sterling area and across the river in Funny River. It is the specualtion of Fish and Game that they are a mated pair that has traveled from the Canadian Rockies into this area having no natural enemies and plenty of space to operate in. The shape, size and behavior of the cats is not easily confused with a lynx.

Here in Homer, up on Charlie drive my family and others have not only seen a few mountain lion on more then f occassions over the last three years, but on our road, Sheep drive, get this, witnessed by myself and a friend was a large( at least 200 lbs.) JET BLACK CAT. I swear that we both said out load, did you just see a panther run down the road? We went over to the area where it had run down the road and there in the dusty sand at the foot of our drive were paw prints that were as bug as a grown mans hands (7-8.5") and at the furthest point in its stride while running there was measured nine feet between front and back paws. It was moving really fast in full light, almost gave us whiplash and it just bounded into the woods as quiet as could be, and here is a curious aspect to it, the cat's was sleek black and when it ran it's tail was curled in a spiral behind it. Not long and low but curled. It seems that global warming is moving our feiends up the rockies and the government is having a hard time understanding what's going on while it's there in plain sight. Sadly even though I called and reported it and the other cat, the mountain lion, this was like a puma or something, but sadly I never got casting of the prints.

Wow, just this last summer, I have heard stories of mountain lions in Kenai. One story was that a big (mountain lion size) cat jump on a hunter. The others in the group saw that and fired shots in the air to scare it. Then one of the guys fired on it and killed it when the big cat was running his way. I didn't believe there was a cat that big in the forests of Kenai, but maybe those guys were telling me the truth.

Mountain Lions eat kids and women and small men.
