Why can't they get monies from the fathers? I admit some people need help but when they keep popping them out they need to be sterolized. Same for the men.

I agree, I agree. I even have better ideas about sterilization, but the program is set up to help the kids and if the adults abuse it, then I believe that they will get theirs eventually somehow. I wish there was a better way to make sure things needed get to kids, but the parents have to do more. But I just don't know what it is. Vasectomy with a sewing machine is one idea.

My family has used WIC and I believe that it is a great program. Not only do they provide food voucher's, but they also check the health of your child when you come in. At the time we were going through some financial difficulties and while the program didn't make life wondeful it did take some of the burden off of our shoulder's and in the long run did help. I am glad to say that we are no longer in a financial bind and I am glad that WIC was there for us.
I hate that there are people out there who abuse these programs, like WIC and Foodstamps, and make it harder for people who actually need the help to get the help, but the simple fact is, the programs do more good than harm!! <--my personal opinion!!

And your personal opinion matches that of probably 99% of the people on these boards.
Glad you're not having problems now.

You can qualify for WIC other ways than by income. I am a diabetic and my daughter has low iron count. I was told by the WIC Office those factors qualify me for WIC even if I was over the income level. I just thought maybe others didnt know that. It's a nutritional program, made to help mothers and kids.

"I am a diabetic and my daughter has low iron count." So let me get this straight! You are on wic because you dont have the intelligence or capacity to buy the correct foods to keep you and your daughter healthy plus you have to rely on a GOVERNMENT agency to make your food choices for you!?! OMFG!!!! As a taxpayer i am appalled that my tax dollars go to support such nonsense!

The program helps to educate those people who have those problems. Just because you believe yourself to be "intelligent", which I highly doubt just by reading your posting, some people do need to be educated on what foods would best be sutable for them if they have these conditions. The classes that W.I.C. offer are very informative and help thousands of people everyday. That's not to say that there are people out there that do abuse the system, as with any system that has been put into place to help certain individuals who otherwise could not offored to get the training or education that W.I.C. and other programs like it offer, there will ALWAYS be somebody who abuses it.
Your comment was just mean and ignorant (due to a lack of education on your part). Thousands of people have used W.I.C and because of it thay are better off than they would have been without it.

the cove wic office is absalutely bias and rude to struggling fathers. I had a soldier who was basicly left with a 4 month old baby. the mom ran off. he was not getting baq because the army wanted a blood test befor they would give the baby DEERS or him baq. When we took him in the office the women at the cove office were so rude to him while women behind him with 4-5 kids no jobs no want to work are gossiping with the wic workers. Sad that the dads who want to do right get shafted by the system

I applaud the father for stepping up to the plate, but he makes enough money that he shouldn't be there anyway.

So let me get this right, you automatically assume that he makes enough money to support a 4 month old, just because he is a soldier? I usually try and refrain from calling people names, unless they deserve it and you my friend are a fool!! The "soldier" wasn't getting paid BAQ, which is Basic Allowance for Qaurter's and is givin to member's of the service who have families and live off post. The key words being Off Post. Military pay is not that great when you first join and doesn't rerally get any better until around the pay grade E-5 and even then it sucks, compared to jobs in the civilian world that have the same job discription and you don't put your life on the line.
An individual joining the military today will start off getting a whopping $1399.50 a month. That does not include BAH which is $950.00 for Fort Hood, which brings the total to $2349.50, Not bad huh?
Now take into consideration that the soldier we are talking about (Grade/Rank unknown) does not get BAH and is taking care of the child by himself, which means that when he is at work he has to provide a babysitter, hum, can you say at the very least,$500.00 a month. I don't even have to go into Rent, Food, Clothing, Diaper's, Electric, Water, and a Phone (soldiers living off post are often required to have a phone.)!! I would like to see you provide for that baby on that income. I used the paygrade E-1 simply because the person who posted the comment that you so foolishly replied to, did not stated the soldiers rank!!

Mac: When I came in the Army back in 1967 base pay was $88 per month. As an E-4 over 2 years of service my base pay was less than $200 per month, BAQ was paid as an allotment check to your wife and it was about $135. We had two kids. We made it. I couldn't wait to make E-5 as base pay then was $200 per month and they quit sending your BAQ to your wife.
These young troops today need to learn how to live on what they make. They don't need 56" plasma TV's, a new car or truck every couple of years, etc.

$500 a month for baby sitting? Can you be my manager? I'll gladly give you 10% of the take.

1SG,
no disrespect intended, but when you came in the Army they still had posts available to tie your horse and buggy too!! LOL
All kidding aside, the main reason I posted that was because the gentleman that I replied to, Ted, had said "he makes enough money that he shouldn't be there anyway." and I simply wanted to inform him that he doesn't make nearly as much as Ted might think.
An E-1 with a family coming into the military is not an easy situation to deal with, believe me I was there. Unlike the soldier that was mentioned by bornagain, I had my wife there to help with the raising of our child.
I completely agree with you on the fact that soldier's do need more financial training then they are getting and I'm not saying that it isn't available either, because it is. The problem is that Commander's do not give the time for the training or the soldier do not seek the training. I believe every soldier should be required to go through an 8-40 hour class on how to properly manage your finances. Going to happen? Probably not! will it help? It might, but you will still have knuckle heads out there that just won't get it.
bornagain had said that he was a soldier, recieved no BAQ, and was supporting the 4 month old by himself, depending on what his rank was, I do not see that as being an easy task nor would it be financially easy.
Ted saying that he made too much money to be there was a foolish statement to make and that was the point I was trying to get accross in as little words as possible.

Not quite sure where you are going with this, but in response it was just an estimate. I have a 2 year old who has been going to daycare for the past 2 years and it costs us $475.oo a month. The daycare is a very good daycare and I can afford to send him to it. We looked at several different daycares and this one was not the most expensive one, but it did come off as the safest. IMO

Mac: Bornagain's post does not state the soldier was an E-1. If he's been through basic and AIT and is still an E-1 he's probably a dud and needs to be tossed out. He also states the mom took off and he wasn't getting BAQ. Was he even married to the woman?? Evidently not, as he stated the Army wasn't giving him BAQ until a blood test confirmed he was the father.
So now we have a "young soldier", grade E-1 or maybe E-2 or E-3, unmarried with a kid. And he's supposed to be deployable?
Discharge him, the sooner the better.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Capricorn

You'll have difficulty finding equilibrium in your emotional life at the moment; try to control the impulsive side of your character. At work, your usual powers of intuition will be clouded. Fits of feverishness may bother you and break down your energy. If you can get out into the countryside for a walk, you'll feel much better.
