My wife and I live in Collin County. A year ago, we brought a second home in Gun Barrel City. Approximatedly five months ago I filed criminial charges against a couple in GBC. This was done on the advice of the Sheriff of Collin County, whom I have known and respected for many years. I made an appointment with the lead investigator, who seemed capable. From that point on it was totally downhill. Never no followup. Latter I found out he took actions in the investigation, that in one conversation he assurred me He was not going to do. In the last six weeks I called no less than six different times and left my name and number. Never once did he returned my calls. When an officer on phone duty had enough sense to refer my number seven phone call to the Police Chief, she assurred me the call would be returned the following week...it never was. To top it off there was two calls and two messages left for this Police Chief, who in turn never returned my phone calls. It finally took a phone call to the new city manager of Gun Barrel to then have the Police Chief return my call. She proceeded to render a cover up of conflicting stories why my case could not render results and charges could not be brought, none of her reasons would have made common sense to a twelve year old, much less a mature senior businessman. My wife and I are seriously considering retiring to Gun Barrel in the near future, but this incident leaves me with a great doubt that this is truly a great community to live in with the poor showing I have found from the Gun Barrel Police Force. Without smart remarks, can you regular posters out there give me your experiences in the same situation and your take on my experience?

I am pleased to report, that my friend and sheriff of Collin County contacted the Sheriff of Henderson county on our behalf. Since that date the Sheriff's department of Henderson county has been agressive in pursuing this case. We look for the couple to be arrested and charged any day now. My advice...don't waste your time contacting local police. The Sheriff Department of Henderson county is your best bet for action in any crimial filed case. My thanks for your sincere sharing in your posts. The folks at Cedar Creek lake are number one, except for a few. That is true anywhere you go and especially so, since we are in a deep recession. Crime will take a huge jump in our area.

The next individual that is running for the Gun Barrel City council who has as part of their platform to replace the Police Chief of Gun Barrel with someone with true law enforcement experience in the field, other than being a long-term file clerk with the police department, will get my support and vote.

I stayed in gbc for five years and seen alot and been throuh alot with the department I can honestly say ramesy is the best one to me but old school and watson and johnson descrimnate against people they take there old and keep it up and cause people to stay there old way but if they can let people change and stop pickin on people worry about the dope heads they provide dope to and look at everyone equally to jon talk to randall wren who went through all the stuff with gbcpd a guy who work for everything he got and patrick johnson who put him down as a major drug dealer cause he had nice things and to say this guy is black so old school and watson pick on him for nothing but this guy moved out of state just not to deal with them no more. There chief is the biggest dealer if they want the truth but I can say is that I will pray for this city and god bless the residents of gbc

All they do is write tickets and harrass people. To me, and I have lived in the area for 10 years, they constantly abuse theirpower. The code enforcement is alos abusive. I once inquired about building on a lot in town on main street and was told that "It is not a law yet that you put a brick or stone phasad on the front of your building. But if you don't, I will give you trouble in passing your building inspection." All they want is money. This is part if the reason it is impossible to make oney or run a business in this town. I am disgusted anytime I have to look at the police here. I have no respect for them at all.

They are fat, lazy and incompetent excuses for law enforcement. They also make about the same money as your average wal mart checker. This will always be a problem with these losers. Oh, and they beat up old ladies, minors and the disabled, elderly and handicapped.

I have also had several poor experiences with the PD. Has anyone ever thought about giving a copy of all these complaints to the Mayor, each individual Council member and the local newspaper?

I live in Kaufman co, but know GBC well. who doesn't. It's a drug city being and always will be. They've prettied it up with nice restaurants. That's the only thing that has changed hn the 30 plus years I've been in the area. To the people with nice houses on the lake, good luck and God Bless! You're going to need it.

It amazes me how people who do not even live here seem to know eveything about Gun Barrel City.... WELL, you don't. There are not any more problems here that are in any other town. If you have a problem with the Police Chief, contact the Assistant Chief. If that does not work, contact the City Manager, then the Mayor and finally a City Council member. Someone WILL listen to you. Regardless of what everyone thinks they know, Gun Barrel City is a great place to live. I should know, I have lived here my entire life! All contact information can be found on the City's website at www.gunbarrelcity.net .

My kiddos went to Mabank and had many friends in GBC. It was tough then and hasn't changed much except for the restaurants and a few new businesses. i live in kaufman co and we surely have our problems. i wonder why you would have to go to so many officials to get ''a'' problem solved? Now that's a ''problem!''

Why then is the crime rate so high? Per City Data, the 2011 overall crime rate is 492. That's waaaaay over the average of 319. It's been high for years. When you consider GBC has less than 6,000 people, that's awful. Theft is very high. Maybe GBC is a great place to live...long as you don't turn out to be a crime statistic. Until they clean up crime, I do NOT think those in charge should get much praise for the job they are doing.
