Hello...anyone out there know if Keller has a distance requirement which requires a registered sex offender to live a certain distance from any area in which children gather? I am alarmed to find out that there are two offenders in my neighborhood that live near a park. One's address borders the park. Is this person in violation of any city laws? Thanks.

If a city is a home rule city (charter) which I believe Keller is, they can put together an ordinance that requires up to a 2000' limitation on where sex offenders can reside. Many other cities in Texas have passed these. Hope this helps.

DAMN near nothing all some one has to do is be drunk and piss in the bushes in the country and there screwed for years to come..
why dont you look at there convictions before you scream that there out to get you and think about what they have gone threw. not everyone is guilty to the extreme.

Being a mother myself to 5 children, I can understand your concern for safety. However being the mother of someone who has been accused and must spend the rest of his life under this cloud, I think before someone speaks out, they should first attempt to learn. Anyone can be labeled a sex offender. All you have to do is to make the wrong joke at work. It really is that simple. So many people are without a place to live and a decent job to provide for their families because they have been accussed of sexual misconduct. These people are persecuted because they have been labeled "sex offender". Please read the definition that the law provides. You too could be mislabeled. The best way to protect your children is to teach them and listen to them.

I am not a offender, but a citizen of this great country that thinks these laws are counterproductive for offenders and their families, the stereotype of offenders is more of a myth than the truth. The public has been led to believe all the untruths by media groups, so they can make headlines to sell more papers and have better rating. Yes it is a very unpopular subject, but people need to educate themselves to see the truth. I am not standing up for the ones who rape small children, but stop putting every one on this registry that is not a true threat. The more people that are put on this, that are not a true danger to the public dilutes the registry and does not allow the ones that made a mistake to ever be able to get their life’s back. JMO

The vast majority of people on the registry are normal people looking for a normal life. People that have made mistakes in the past, but that is where they reside - in the past.

Yes, some people listed on the registry are dangerous, and need to be looked after.

Then there exists the rest of them that pose no risk, incest offenders, young boyfriend/ Girlfriend cases and so on. Most knew their victims and it was not the stranger danger case.

I can do nothing but push forward, if only for my belief in humanity, the belief that someone somewhere will gain some common sense (read Philip Roth) and see that this is wrong, and it needs to change.

I do not think the public knows how many victims this registry makes, not just the ones on it, that have paid their debt but their children also who are harassed and shamed, they are guilty of nothing but it still affects them also.

Are Americans aware that because of the “Victim’s Rights Laws & Rape Shield Laws” an ACCUSATION ALONE is sufficient for a conviction, a prison term of 5 to 25 years or even life and then being listed on a Sex Offender Registry most likely for life?

All I ask is people to look at the real facts and the amount of time and money that is put into the registry for LOW risk offenders that should not be on it.

I am an offender, and live 750 feet from an adult education center. I made a mistake and dated for a short time a girl who lied about her real age. I complied with authorities fully when investigated, and served a short term, and finished five years probation. I am on this list for 25 years, essentially the rest of my natural life. I take full resnsibility for my mistakes, and amfreinds with the victim and her family now, and yet this list has ruined any chance for a normal life. I cannot pass a background check for an apartment, have trouble getting any work except for menial labor jobs, and jst completed my BA in History/pre-law (ironic, eh?) and have trouble hgetting a job as a professional anywhere. I am practically suicidal now, as I have been informed I must again move because I live just inside the limited area. I have no where to go, and cannot use a shelter as a legal address for updating my registration info.. I am about ready to throw up my hands and just violate my requirements over and over until they just lock me up for life, since I am not allowed to live a normal life anymore, perhaps they should just take care of me forever, or have me exterminated. I am so depressed I dont know what to do, pleae help with any suggestions anyone might have, and dont be mean, I have struggled to come to terms with my past, and am at my wits end. I have contacted the MI state atty gen office and my former judge in the case to request an exemption be made on my behalf, but have heard nothing as yet, and do not really expect to. I wish I could start my life over, I was on drugs back then and lacked good judgement. Plus she albeit lacking the adult mind to reasonabally offer true consent, she came on real strong when I was despondant and reeling from the loss of my girlfreind after 12 years. One thing led to another, and we fooled around. Now I just want to die. If I cannot live my life anything near normal, why didnt they just kill me??Please help me anyone!!

It’s not your fault you have no knowledge of this subject!

This is not about a dangerous predator that should be in prison, but the first time
offenders of a non-violent crime, peeing in public, streaking, as we use to call it, mooning, some one pinching someone on the rear end and the list goes on.

Please open your mind before you speak!

Been involved in law enforcement for quite awhile and I must say that I personally have never heard of anyone going to prison for peeing in public, mooning etc? So what county did these people get arrested in and sent to prison for peeing in public?

This happens in america, are you aware there are are children as young as 10 on the registry. I know if you are in law enforcement, you have incountered very bad people, and I know your job can be very diffucult, I thank you for your service, but when you have a chance look up some of the ones on the registry and see for yourself what they were really charged with.

This is Not about a predator or child rapist. Do you think Americans are aware that a VERY large number of Registered Sex Offenders have never touched or raped anyone, let alone a child? But guilt by association on the Sex Offender Registry labels them all as a “pervert” a “pedophile” and a “predator” for life.

They can make you register for public urination, streaking )a guy streaked at his high school graduation got life time sex offender status) a fistfight, making lewd comments, in short anything they want.
http://www.coloradodaily.com/news/2008/nov/03 ...

There are many Studies that have proven that the current Sex Offender Laws, the Registries and the Residency Restrictions are ineffective and damaging. Our Legislators repeatedly state inaccurate recidivism rates (the rate to re-offend) of “sex offenders” to the public to gain support of voters and to push through flawed legislation. The recidivism rate for “sex offenders” is significantly lower than that of Dui, drug dealers and users or armed robbers. An interesting fact since Sex Offender Legislation is based on the assumption that “sex offenders” will recidivate with new sexual offenses.
