Corbin papers report the city collected and KEPT seven hundred twenty one thousand dollars in taxes from alcohol sales during the first year. Corbin has been able to reduce its business fees and start repairs in the city because of these funds. What say ye, WillyP???

yaaa Corbin.

If it is really "that great" why is Topix your venue? Shouldn't HuffPo or DemUnd be alerted?

How many alcohol related deaths is 750K?

Drunks and fools think Corbin won.

I some times wonder why Laurel county attracts, or grows so many idiots. In 90 plus per cent of this country alcohol is sold, yet you act like our area is normal. Obviously not all fools think Corbin won, but the London business community does and plans to do something about it next time.

People with bad luck, bad judgement,or terminal stupidity have been killing themselves since the beginning of time. People should be free to do what they want and if they die they die.

Corbin got 30 jobs. London is getting 1500 that will be paying the 1% work tax. Remember the drunk said london would not get jobs because it did not vote wet. So are you drunks going to admit you were wrong?

Wish London had that tax money; they could do like Corbin and lower fees and taxes. Anyone wanting to drink is not deterred by a drive to Corbin, Manchester or Somerset to buy alcohol, so I see no rational reason London does not have sales.

The only thing Msnchester got was increase in under age drinking and DUI stops. Alcohol related deaths have increased in the state. More DUI stops. Innocent life's taken. Children killed with their parents. Insurance premiums gone up. For what??? The best thing London did was stay dry.

Todays online edition of the News Journal has a complete story and break down of taxes paid. Corbin received over $721,000.00 in alcohol tax revenue the first year of sales. Not bad, it exceeded the city's estimate by over $200,000.00. A lot of alcohol was bought to bring in that much in taxes. It means Corbin is getting a lot of traffic. I am sure corbin citizens alone did not buy that much.

If anyone thinks that London not having package sales has done anything to stop the use of alcohol by the residents of London, you are wrong. The dry supporters have accomplished a couple of things. They have sent those that would buy alcohol out on the roads to their local restaurant/bar to drink until their heart is content, or for the more responsible drinkers to Corbin, or Manchester, to purchase their alcohol from a package store, where they will purchase it and hopefully take it home to consume. In effect, giving money to other cities to use. God gave everyone free will. He tells us not to judge others. One last thing, I'm a non-drinker, just tired of the hypocrisy.

With Somerset, Corbin and Manchester voting in package sales, its obvious that all London accomplished with its no vote, was lose millions in tax revenue. Anyone one in London or Laurel county who wants to buy alcohol simply drives to one of those close locations.

Good point. On an anecdotal not, I always stop at El Azteca and drink three or four XX's before I come back to Somerset.

Thanks for keeping your bars open on Sunday London!

Whether one consume alcohol or not, its obvious its a legal and popular product in this country. While I don't use the products, I realize a good portion of society does. With that fact a given, London's recent elections puzzle me. The community voted in by the drink sales, which has resulted in a number of actual bars being located in town. Yet we voted down package sales. That is crazy. The worst possible delivery mechanism is the bar, where people go drink, and drive home. The package store, where you buy and go home to drink is a much safer alternative. Yet we votes yes to bars and no to package stores. Crazy.

Stick a sock in it boozer. If you want to get your drink on just buy the overpriced beers at Shilohs or take your money to Corbin, Manchester, or Somerset like everyone else.

Times Tribune 7-18-2013... Corbin Buying City Park
"McBurney said a $25,000 donation from the Corbin Tourism and Convention Commission helped to seal the deal. The city thought about buying the property for some time, and we got serious about it a couple of years ago. We even asked if the bank would donate the land to us. We approached Tourism about us buying the property back in April, and they gave us the $25,000 in May towards purchasing the property. It’d been hard for us to buy it if Tourism hadn’t given us the money."
Corbin couldn't afford to buy a piece of property without a $25,000 donation ?? Where's the Beef ??

Spoken like a 3 times DUI convict. I really don't care about you. One of my family goes because of your ideas. I will kill their family, dogs, cats, grass, and piss in the ashes of what's left.

So bottoms up and enjoy.
