Feinstein: All Vets Are Mentally Ill And Government Should Prevent Them From Owning Firearms
http://govtslaves.com ^| March 8, 2013
During the Senate Judiciary meeting today to markup a potpourri of bills designed to deny the American people their rights under the Second Amendment and disarm them, Senator Dianne Feinstein opposed an amendment to her so-called assault weapons ban legislation that would allow veterans to continue buying firearms the bill would outlaw.
Feinstein basically said all veterans have PTSD and should have their Second Amendment stripped. In response to the amendment, she said the following:
this adds an exemption of retired military. As I understand our bill, no issue has arose in this regard during the 10 years the expired ban was effect and what we did in the other bill was exempt possession by the United States or a department or agency of the United States that included active military. The problem with expanding this is that you know with the advent of PTSD, which I think is a new phenomenon as a product of the Iraq War, its not clear how the seller or transferrer of a firearm covered by this bill would verify that an individual was a member, or a veteran, and that there was no impairment of that individual with respect to having a weapon like this. So you know I would be happy to sit down with you again and see if we could work something out but I think we have to if youre going to do this, find a way that veterans who are incapacitated for one reason or another mentally dont have access to this kind of weapon.

The Texas senator offered an amendment that would allow members of armed forces and veterans to obtain and possess the self defense weapons prohibited by this legislation.
Members of the armed forces and veterans are the most highly trained and qualified individuals to own these weapons for self defense purposes, said Mr. Cornyn last week.We should think long and hard before disarming these heroes preventing them from protecting their families and their communities.
Mrs. Feinstein responded that,The problem with expanding this is that, with the advent of PTSD which I think is a new phenomenon as a product of the Iraq war its not clear how the seller or transferor of a firearm banned by this bill would verify whether the individual was a member or a veteran, and that there was no impairment of that individual with respect to having a weapon like this.
Mr. Cornyn replied by pointing out that PTSD sufferers are already prohibited by law. He added that,I think its a mistake to paint so broadly to say that any active duty military or veterans cant use these kinds of weapons or any lawful kinds of weapons for self defense. He said that,I wouldnt want to suggest that we think that anyone who served in the military all suffer from some debilitating illness that would prohibit them from defending themselves.
The military amendment failed to pass the committee, with all Democrats voting against it

Snopes is as bad as you at carrying water for left wing loons. In big red letters they say the report of her remarks is false, but the fine print that follows makes it clear they're lying. A fair reading of her statement will reveal that the report above is exactly what she said. I suggest that anyone interested read the remarks for them self and not depend on you and Snopes to explain what the Senator meant to say.
