I agree. Garland and McKnight made a great team. Too bad we don't have more administrators with spines like those two.

G.C. Garland, an educator respected and liked by teachers and staff. He did much for our system. When he left our schools were in great shape. I do hope Bennett can turn the system around. Some very good people in Whitley county say he was a very respected as an educator and person. Time will tell.
Well maybe he will lower the property taxes and make them run off of a no waste budget. Maybe something back to the school tax payers. Yes we will see! Have a good evening everyone!

What good did it do to cut out jobs and then create 2 new ones? District Athletic Director and Chief Academic Officer????
They have also just posted 3 curriculum specialist positions for the district.
The job at CO the other poster referred to as being cut out completely is also listed as an open position so they didn't eliminate it, they just moved the person that had it.
Shelly has been wondering the same thing.

I loved gc too but it is well known that the person that replaced him was doing all the work during his tenure too. GC was just a figure head.

Did the CC's get put back into the classroom?? Well played Bennett well played. I bet they are about to die. It's much easier to boss teachers than be one! lol It will be interesting to see it all when the dust settles. I'm hoping he is truly cutting positions not needed and not just switching things around to make it look that way.

I don't think JM was the best, but he and his staff did a good job managing the system. Nepotism was rampant in all school districts during the time he was in office. Compared to some we have had since, JM was a genius. I do wonder, however, if he would have ever gotten the job without that "little" connection.

That's the second time you have referred to a connection....what are you talking about?

Recent moves suggest Bennett is going to be effective. I hope he succeeds breaking up the old boy network where people got big jobs based on connections not ability or experience. How much money did the elimination of two administrative central office positions save? I submit we have been top heavy for years and this move will free funds for more important matters.
Mr.Bennett will do exactly what JIM KENNEDY tells him to !

Do you know who worked and managed the money under G.C.? Check and see when Laurel Co. started making strides in education. The system started changing when board members wanted to run the system and use it for power plays. That time would be when Larry Vanhook, Albert Binder, Bill McDaniel and Jack Binder came on the board. At one time you had quality people that had the best interests of the students not personal gains. Good candidates do not want to be board members. How many superintendents have the board hired in the last twelve years? Maybe the people should consider the board members they vote for in their district. I have grandchildren in this system and I worry about the education they are receiving. Thank goodness they have parents that make up for what they are missing in the classroom, but what about he children that do not have the help at home. Lets hope Laurel County wakes up and addresses our academic failings and strives to get our system back on track.

The CC will all be fine. They have tenure and are some of the best educators in the system.

Say what you want but I know they are about to die having to go back into the classroom. Most think teaching is beneath them. The CC's are not needed, glad Dr. Bennett realized that.

It's a fact you are one of them because I've never heard how great of teachers any of them except for one. I bet they will miss going uptown trashing the teachers. We'll see how they like doing all the bs stuff they had the teachers doing.

Well, once upon a time a young rather average educator made the wise choice of marrying Oakley Cobb's daughter. Now Mr. Cobb, a school board member for decades, ran the school board, and in my opinion, did right well. But when it was time to select a new super, Mr. Cobb and the others chose JM, his son in law. Many, at the time, doubted JM would have ever been selected absent his connection. But JM was ok and served a considerable period. Sadly, he was ousted, according to legend, for using his official school car to make liquor runs to Richmond. Today, I am told. the nepotism rules would have precluded his selection.

I thought that whole thing was a Phelps set up for there cuz TH to get the job but I don't have a dog in the fight. What I do care about is that back then the Super was pretty much the only one who had a vehicle now there are too many vehicles to count. Fleet cards and cell phones too. Central Office was in that little building by the highschool and look at it now. Have you been in Central Office? That's the stuff I care about. I don't care about personalities or who is friends with who on Facebook but I do care about the WASTE in the system. I am hopeful that Mr. Bennett sees it too.

If long timer knew as much as he thought he does then he might have been superintendent. Check your facts and your timeline buddy. I guess you weren't qualified enough to advance in the system. Bitter much?
