How hard is it to act like you're not bored to death and would rather be doing anything than helping someone? That seems to be the current attitude of many of the employees at the Sheriff's Department. You'd think during these troubled times, folks would be happy to have a job. A friendly smile and a courteous attitude have never hurt anyone!

I found out that the sheriffs office is more worried about protecting people from out of state more than they protect the people of their own county. And it's our taxes that pay them. They tried their best to get something on me, but knew they didn't have a solid case. So they tried their best to manipulate the system to their advantage with no success!!! I studied law more than the whole sheriffs combined. Don't try your games with me. I know the law and its a double edged sword. All I can say is if Root wants to stay in office he better get rid of several of the young cocky guys and a couple of the old ones as well. He know who they are and how they operate. If I don't see those changes soon me and several of my coharts will put big $ up to back up a new sheriff when election come around

John Root and his unfriendly, cocky bunch with the "I'm better than you" attitudes have such a surprise coming. A candidate has been found who will stand up to this bunch, and John and his "we're great" crew are on the way out the door! John, who tries to run the Sheriff's office like a State Police Post hasn't and will never realize, that the Sheriff's Department isn't just a drug squad, or a military unit, or a way to promote family businesses. It's the one form of law enforcement that's directly held accountable to the voters by the voters, and if John thinks he's got a cakewalk again, he's sadly mistaken. He and his employees with their attitudes that they're special, they're better than everyone, that they can say or do as they please and nothing can be done, have worn very thin on many people in Laurel County. Soon they will see that!

John promised to straighten the place up, and has failed completely. The only thing bigger than John's ego, is the zero he gets in job performance.

A while back, my neighbor called the sheriff's for some trouble he was having. They never showed up for forever, but when they did, the deputy just acted like he wanted to get the information as fast as possible and leave. He seemed uninterested, and unconcerned. He took the info, and without checking with any of the neighbors, left, never to have been back or to have called about the case. John Root can fool some people, but he can't fool me. I will not vote for him, I will not change my mind, we need a new sheriff.

Why, I'm from Laurel County. You'll find Laurel County folks are mighty smart people, and aren't overly impressed with The Sheriff's press releases saying how great all them are, when they're having to guard their homes and farms, cause they have a sheriff who doesn't do it for them. John Root is the best Sheriff Laurel County ever had? No, not even close!!!

from the looks of all the complaints on here about the sheriffs office it doesn't look like I will have to put any $ up. It doesn't take money to buy common sense. It's looks to me that 90+% of the people on here will not be voting for him.
