Little behind the times. The tax was effective July 1, 2005 and schools have been happily collecting it on most utilities since then. Apparently, someone at Delta felt they were exempt and didn't collect until just recently. It's a minor miracle that Delta is not billing for the back tax since they had to pay it. Look it up.

Teachers aren't getting a penny of it. No raise in 5 years and probably going on 6. Cost of living and insurance premiums continue to rise as well as demands but no appreciation.

Buildings. This year they will go to pay LC's share of the breakup of the insurance trust. That's probably a million or more.

Local tax money is a drop in the bucket. The real money is in the State and Federal funding. That's State and Federal tax money. If you don't pay any, then you should not have a say.

Well, let's see. About all the schools in Laurel County are new and nice. That's something people wanted to attract new business, etc. The have to be paid for. Unlike Clay County there are no 1976 (37 year old) buses on the road. That's something people wanted so their little kiddies would have a good ride to school. Has to be paid for. The retirement system needs a boost, it's about $4 billion underfunded. So, you can expect another tax increase when that bill comes due. One of the nicest Board buildings in the state. Looks good but it ain't cheap. KSBIT dissolved and left every school district in the state owing a pooled share of insurance. Has to be paid for, plus the Districts still have to find insurance. So watch those WC claims. It's pretty much accounted for if you just bother to look.
