"An uproar over a Western North Carolina editor’s request for a list of concealed-carry gun permits led to the editor withdrawing his request, and resigning from the weekly mountain paper.

Robert Horne, the editor of the weekly Cherokee Scout since 2005, resigned from his position Tuesday, following the backlash over public records request he made to Cherokee Sheriff Keith Lovin for a list of residents who hold concealed-carry permits. He plans on working through May, and then leaving the state.

Cherokee County is located in the mountainous, westernmost corner of the state.

Horne has asked for a list of concealed-carry gun permits on Feb. 19, but Lovin denied it and then posted a response from Horne about how the information should be public on the sheriff’s Facebook page, which sparked a deluge of comments critical of the editor, according to this account from the Columbia Journalism Review.

Threats to newspaper staffers and Horne started coming in, with Horne reporting several of the threats to the same sheriff’s office."

I'm with you on that. I am 62 years old and no one will ever disarm me while I am alive. I have a right to defend my family in what ever way I feel necessary and no one will ever tell me how many rounds of ammo I can put in my gun.

You are right, there is hope. I found hope at oathkeepers.org where thousands of military and police personell have signed the oath to protect the Constitution.

In my mind the guy got just exactly what he deserved by asking for that information.Its none of his d@mn business who is licensed to carry and who isnt.Other should be forewarned.A lot of people in this country are fed up with whats going on.Years ago threats to our freedoms laid mostly outside our country.Now the biggest threat to our republic lie within our own boundaries.Time for the BS to come to a screeching halt.

BELIEVE OR NOT but our government and homeland security has bought up a lot of ammo,that's one of the biggest reasons.another is the fear of prices going sky high and they have risen some simply because of that.more people are buying up ammo and that has caused the shortage of ammo too.i just heard a man on fox news say if you are not for gun control,you are on the side of future murders and criminals,something to that affect.aint that a crock of BS! that bunch is trying to walk all over the people and their rights.

the sad part is, the ones that are elected torun the country are the very ones that are doing the most damage.the main one is a the top.they are for big government at the expense of the people.big government wants to take the freedoms we have and keep us under the thumb,so we will be afraid to stand united and defend those rights.--go to you tube and type in--why obama banned this video,-and see what you think.

That guy must have been a liberal they were just letting talk or argue with? Fox News generally is pro-gun from what I have seen.Was anyone debating the gun control guy?

There's plenty of ammo available from internet stores but it's expensive. Actually, you ought'a be able to find S&W 40. I've seen it on shelves when pretty much everything else was gone.

no there was no debate,they just ran the comments he was ranting about and talked a few minutes on the subject.it's a dirty rotten shame how many people are jumping on this.i can understand wanting to stop all the killing,but punishing every gun owner's rights in the process.criminals will get guns no matter how many laws they pass.there are many laws that if they enforce would stop a lot of the crimes with guns involved.but there are some hardened people that will break the laws no matter how harsh.and that's a shame.

Shotgun!!! Best home defensive weapon you can buy. Cheaper than the average pistol and plenty of ammo. A pump works well for me but if you want an automatic you can do that too. Barrels are sometimes too long on an automatic so just cut them off.
