crystal I can feel you on the fact that they do have an overbearing bunch working there but think of the alternative.
If we didnt have them doing what they do what kind of conditions would exist? We would have to be armed to the teeth constantly to keep a bunch of hoodlums from taking everything we own.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to get video and audio if possible every time you deal with a cop. If you can get that and the cop violates your rights in any way you can sue and you will win. I think all encounters between law enforcement and citizens should be recorded.

I seriously doubt the cop searched out this particular dog to shoot for just no reason. I would like to hear why he was there to begin with. Because if he was at this place for a legit reason and the dog was aggressive toward him he had every legal right to shoot it. Read KRS 525.130 (g)

Pepper spray will stop a grizzly. Im sure it would stop a dog. What was wrong with using that instead of shooting the dog?

When a office is called to a neighbors home because of a vishious animal and that animal comes at them they have a right (not to mention their job) to protect. The owner of the dog is to blame. Why was it not fenced in or in the home? Why was it at someone else's home? If you don't know the truth don't get on here and put comments. They are laws and policeman follow them. To protect and serve. I hope the lady that owned the dog gets into a lot of trouble for not keeping her dangerous animal up. If it was so good why did the neighbors call the police? Just got fun I guess. Please people think before you open your mouth and put down a police officer.

There are laws and people should follow them. Iam sure the police officer was just doing his job. I don't think he would shot a animal for no reason. The owner of the dog should be fined. If it was such an good family dog why was it running lose? The owner did not take proper care of it. She was in bed a sleep. She is not a responsible pet owner. The animal was aggressive and charged at the officer and he has a right to protect himself and the public. The neighbors said that the lady's dog was the animal that they called about. It was roaming the neighborhood and being aggressive. What if that dog had attacked a child and injured and killed them? The officer was justified in doing what he done.

The officer knew the situation and should have called for Animal Control.

There was no immediate danger and no real proof the dog was a menace.

You have to have your dog in a fence in area or in the house or tied up. I am not a cop lover. I am a lawyer at this point there nothing she can do. The cop was in the right this time. Sad story but it was the owners fault.

The deputies need cameras in their cruisers, this would help! Why don't they have cameras while even though much poorer counties have cameras mounted in the cruisers? Let's ponder for a second and think why wouldn't a cop want to be filmed?

Also why didn't the cop report this to animal control (the dog pound). Animal control deals with this situation countless times per week and they never have to draw a gun? So ask yourself why did he not report it to animal control? Did a bored deputy want to use his gun

Nonsense, he didn't have to shoot the dog. It didn't attack him. And the dog wasn't a stray, it was a family pet. The proper procedure is to call in an animal control officer to handle the situation, not execute the dog on the spot.

The officer absolutely done the right thing. If the owner was so concerned they WOULD HAVE HAD THE DOG TIED UP. They should have more concideration and respect for there neighbors. Than to let the dog run loose all over the neighborhood terrorizing the kids. Mr. Root give Dep. Berry a raise for a job well done...

First, there is no animal control officer. Second, police officer are trained and know the law. Maybe if the dog had came at you or your family three times and attempted to attack you or your family I'll bet you would have time to call someone. The owner of the animal should have been more responsible and kept the animal up. Look on the sheriff page and look at her mug shot where she was arrested on a Warrent for shoplifting this week.

If you don't know what really happened don't make comments. A neighbor called regarding a vicious that was harassing people. The officer came out and talked to the neighbor and the dog charged at the officer 3 times attempting to attack and bite him. The dog had aggression problems. The neighbors saw everything. The owner is irresponsible. The officer knows the laws. Protect and serve.....

Animal Cruelty charges

Sheriff John Root is reporting that Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Milton Storm received a 911 complaint that several dogs were not being cared for properly on Lakeside Road, 11 miles west of London on Friday night(8-3-2012) at 7:30 P.M. at Jennifer Karr’s residence. Upon arrival at the scene and after conducting an investigation, Deputy Storm discovered one animal on a chain approx. 4 feet long, malnourished, bone protruding, no food, and green slimy water. Another dog was found in the back on a leash approx. 2 feet long, no food, very little water, and had bones protruding, and appeared to be near death. The 3rd dog located was pinned in a cage on the back porch, no food or water present and appeared malnourished. The owner of the dogs agreed the dogs appeared malnourished.

Deputy Storm notified Laurel County Animal Control, and they came to the scene and removed all 3 dogs—2 were taken to a vet, and one taken back to The Laurel County Animal Control kennels. Charged by Deputy Storm was: Jennifer L. Karr age 36 of East Hwy 312, Corbin charged with: Cruelty To Animals 2nd Degree.
