I grew up on bee creek rd and often walked to the children's home to see a girl I was struck on. The place was strange for sure and you could tell the kids were afraid and secretive about what when on,, we assumed being orphaned was the glooom but it was not. The gloom was what went on there, col sanders. If the real stories were ever told it would read as an unearthy as the tv series American Horror Story.

I asked the Lord to teach me how to rejoice even in sorrowful conditions. God promises to turn all things around for good - in all conditions. I'm a psychic person and have an ability to perceive information hidden from the normal senses through extrasensory perception (ESP). I know things talked about did happen.

Interesting, from all the accounts I've read about Preacher Vogel, did he let the girls date? He sounds like he was a strict man. i can't imagine that he would have let you court a girl there.

I just found this thread today. There are MANY false statements. I find it so hard to understand how someone with absolutely zero knowledge of the circumstances regarding the Galilean Children's Home in it's final moments (throes, if you will) can just make nasty statements and expect those of us with a working brain to accept their trash-talk! I lived there from 5 days old until the 'home' moved to Yalaha, Fl in 1956. I have, in the overall scheme of things, nothing but the fondest and loving memories of the Galilean Children's Home. It really hurts me to hear so many of you, not even born at the time this all happened, slander so many wonderful people.:( Col. Sanders was our Santa Claus all year long, not just at Christmas! He was a wonderful person who cared so much for the children. I spent the summer of 1963 working at Kentucky Fried Chicken headquarters in Shelbyville, Kentucky, and I lived with the Col. and his wife. No one could ever ask for a more gracious couple. Heh-I do have some funny stories, though.

Hi David, I too lived there until things fell apart. My life would have been so dreadful as I believe so many otheres would have been if it had not been for Galilean Children's Home. But Sensationalism sells and that is what a lot of people are looking for. Yes, Mr. Vogel had rules but when you are responsible for almost 100 children, you have to have bounderies. I and my brother and two sister came from a mother that did not care enough for us to set rules . I am glad to hear someone stand up and defend a man that can not longer defend himself.

You're welcome, Irene. I simply state things as I remember them. I have lived a wonderful-if somewhat dysfunctional when compared to the 'norm'-life and I have always been grateful that the GCH took me in and cared for me. Yes, Vogel was a hard taskmaster, but those were different and difficult times. I sincerely hope that you and those around you are in good health and enjoying life. I would like to hear more about you and your siblings. If you want to you can reach me at daves2worms@aol.com Hugs

After we had the two reunions in the '80s seems like that was enough for the majority. About 5 yrs ago a bunch of us "little girls" had a reunion. We had met at one of the girls home in KY and had the most wonderful time. It was like we truly were sisters and that time had stood still. We laughed and we cried my heart just swells with pride to be a Galilean Childrens Home Kid. Believe me you haven't offended me. Trudie Hi trudy my grandmother was in gch during this time and she is terminally ill her wish is to find goldie cecil, if you have any information it'd be greatly appreciated you can email me at jeccalynn_21@hotmail.com thank you so much

I was doing some research about my family and found some pics of the original children's home that was rented to the Vogels for 2.50 a month. I also found some post cards with some pics on them of the expansion and the original 3 girls. If anyone would like a copy of them I did save them. I know at one time I was following this thread b/c of being from the area and remembered someone wanting them. I will check back to this post when I can. Thanks.....

I was too young to really know much about this place, but I do know that my cousins, who were older than me, were placed there after their mother passed away. My mother went often to check on her nieces. One night she had gone for a visit, and when she came home, they were with her. One of them have been "spanked" and had blood blisters on her backside. Not sure what action was taken, but I do remember my mother was involved. It was not long after that occurence that the place closed down.
