Why does the School Board over-spend, make bad decisions and expect us to pay for their mistakes?? Why do we need all these assistants and 10 nurses on the payroll?? Know how many nurses that were at my school when I was going to school?? NONE-Sure if my kid was sick I would send them to school so the school board could nurse them back to health!! Parents do this because it saves them money!! We don't need them!! I am insured and taxed to death now-think anybody is going to help pay my bills?? I have to live between my means!! I say NO to a tax increase!!!

To hear them talk there is no over spending and there is no waste to be cut. What a joke. Greed and corruption at it's finest.

They need to live within their means like everyone else are having to do in these tough times. I would never let a school nurse see my kid. If they're sick they can come home and I will take them to my doctor.

You people need to read the newspaper and be more informed. The state and federal governments are adding expenditures faster than the district can cut them. The big 4% increase amounts to $20 a year or .38 cents a week. How much money do you spend on cigaretts and alcohol??

Then your problem is with the Federal government not the taxpayers. Between city, county, state, and federal we are already paying enough in taxes. Also, how citizens spend their money is their business. I don't smoke or drink, but putting up with a bunch of teachers and school administrators would probably drive someone to. If the amount is so small, how about a cut in teachers pay, or insurance, or retirements to balance it out.

.38 cents a week and people cry like its the apocalypse. I could find .38 cents on the ground everyday if I tried hard enough. Even better, I could use COUPONS at the grocery store and save even more money than the .38 centers per week that is being recommended.

The tax will pass because it has to.

Ps. Maybe, just maybe, London will consider giving a big thumbs up to the alcohol vote the next go around. That tax revenue would sure be helpful in our district.... and it might even save everyone .38 centers per week.

I don't know what it will amount to, and it doesn't matter. 4% of what amount? I guess it would depend on how much the 4% is being figured towards. What, per 100,000 of property? The point is, that is an additional tax on an already high amount that the school district gets. Again obviously the school system has become bloated and needs trimming. I'd say again, cut teachers pay, make them pay a part of their insurance, and cut their retirement benefits, just like they are doing working men and women all over this nation.

fFive or was it six superintendents in 12 years, new administration bldg, decorated elaborately , three athletic directors are just a few of unneeded expenses. Do you really believe they have cut back on budget? Trust the board members and new superintendent to make finically good decisions, not.

And you see some of them driving school vehicles, official tags. Do they really need official vehicles for inside the school district use. We have a new superintendent from outside the county, new agenda, reinvent the wheel, and the school board kissing his behind. I hope the voters send these clowns to the house and get some people loyal to the taxpayers and voters.

This is the typical mentality that teachers deal with from those who don't value education and certainly don't makemitba priority for their children or society.
Teachers pay has been cut! By not having a raise in 6 years, insurance increasing by 100%, and the cost of living nearly doubling, teachers take home much less now than they did 5 years ago. You seem to forget at teachers pay the same, if not more, taxes than the average person, and the proposed tax increase affects all teachers as well.
If your so anti-education, why don't you homeschool your kid, or better yet, lobby to make all education tuition based. Then we can be as progressive as these third world countries who only educate those who can afford to pay. Yes, that's what this area needs. Less education, more Obama free cell phone stands, and more kids who cycle into lifelong welfare and food stamp recipients due to lack of education.

I'm no Obama fan, but I like how you knock Obama and justify a tax increase at the same time. I love how you turn someone's opinion if you don't favor a tax increase you're anti teacher or anti kid or anti education. Just like the pro abortion and pro gay rights bunch who if you don't support them you're anti woman or a homophobe. lol What pompous jerks many of you teachers are. As far as the tough times you are experiencing welcome to the real world, as the rest of us are suffering the same things. And as far as my kids go, they do well, they are expected to do well, even without your "no kid left behind" and your pat yourself on the back attitudes. My kids want to do well, and we want them to do well, and I give most of the credit to us parents and the kids. The schools and the teachers in Kentucky are all basically the same, and just do their job like they're supposed to do and like anyone who does a job and does it well does. My kids will do well wherever they go and kids that don't want to do well, won't do well wherever you put them and no matter how much money you spend on them. The current system is bloated and too expensive and needs trimmed. It will happen, just a matter of time.

I am not anti education. My family are educators. I am against the leaders that cannot manage the budget. Look at the system. Laurel Co has digressed over the last ten to twelve years. Once regarded a leader in the state, sadly not now. Look at your school board, some past members and present members have made decisions that have produced the outcome of a declining system.

No one is knocking educating our kids!! Knocking the board for making decisions without having the funds available to pay for them. Most of the construction is over now and we should not have to be out this money for future projects!! Look at all the taxes we pay now!!!!$20.00 a month is a lot for people like me on a fixed income!! One thing about Laurel County-Friends take care of friends in this county!! 10 school nurses-how much does that cost the county-If the kids are sick how come the parents are not called to come get them to take them to the doctor!! How much money would this save the county if we did not have these nurses??? We are in the educating business-not running a hospital and why do we need to pay a deputy superintendent almost as much as the superintendent!! We don't need an Obama superintendent and a liberal school board to keep getting us farther and farther in debt!! Let the teachers teach and make that our first priority and get rid of a lot of this support personnel that is not needed and working only because of being someone's family member!! Definitely NO on a tax increase-lot of these school board members don't have a clue how the hard working people of this county are having to live!!!

How is this "cut to the bone"?
*All principals have board funded smart phones and 2 way radios.
*Administrators have board provided vehicles and fill them up at the bus garage.
*The recreation of a district sports director when we already have one at each high school.
*Elementary sports which required the resurfacing of most gym floors in the district as well as paying coaches and assistant coaches at each elem school.
*The creation of a bass fishing team and a swim team. Travel exspences and coaches for both.
*Is there really a need for sports teams to travel to Florida in the spring every year?
*2 administration buildings....both overly decorated.
*How many curriculum directors is it now? 3 or 4?

And, these are drops in a bid bucket. Last year the newspaper reported that Kentucky has thirty billion in unfunded pensions. By my arithmetic that comes out to six million dollars for every man, woman and child in the state. Of course not all of the pensions are for Laurel county politician, teachers, policemen, etc. But I wonder how much is.

While all the things you mention may even have merit, there is much that could be cut.
