That's the problem with most people who brag about being "college educated", makes them think they are better than everyone.
Being college educated is a hell of a lot better than someone who doesn't try and just expects money for nothing!

Oh so just because someone isn't college educated that means they aren't trying? Never went to college, work my 40+ hours every week with a good job and $15 an hour and don't expect crap for nothing. So Sir, your argument is invalid.

My argument would be invalid if we were talking about you. But since the world doesn't revolve around you, you haven't proved anything other than YOU ARE A MORON. We are talking about servers here, dumbass. Not people who work 40 hours a week and make $15 an hour (which probably isn't true considering all the time you have for topix.) Now go find some other thread to troll, change your name so you can appear brand new and intelligent, and piss off!

<quoted text>Actually I WAS A SERVER in high school. Then I went to college, got an education, and moved away from this crap hole and saw how the world is supposed to be. Servers in this area ARE NOT SERVERS - THEY ARE MODERN DAY BEGGARS! They are too lazy to either get a real job or go to school so they want everyone else to give them something for nothing. When I go to out to eat, I MIGHT AS WELL HAVE WENT TO A BUFFET because I usually have to serve myself, and yet you all still want a tip?!?
So you worked as a server, went to college, moved away from this "crap hole"... by the wording it seems you came back to this "hell hole". If you hate it here with so many lazy beggars, why would you come back? And... it's "I might as well have GONE to a buffet". I didn't go to college but I do know grammar.
Everyone on here keeps saying what SHOULD BE, but unfortunately, it's NOT. Sorry, we have to live in the world we have and believe it or not, Corbin is NOT all bad.

After reading this thread u can tell most of you have never waited on tables, We have to put up with a lot of rude people if the food is not the wa they ordered it we hear it and it's not our fault we dont cook the food we bring the food to you! and being a server is harder than u think and it can be mentally and phyical exhausting.Just because u got bad service at once place doesn't mean ALL SERVERS ARE sh*tty the are servers out there that does a good damn job! Back in the day i thought the same thing is why should i leave a tip to pay the servers wages until i became one myself because it does become over whelming at times believe that! SO WHY JUDGE AND PUT DOWN on servers? we dont sit and judge u and your job. and if u dont like going to places that has servers that brings you your food and wait on you then stay the F home or go to a fast food place!

Don't listen to them, they only assume what a server has to go thru.

<quoted text>Im one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Im not a server. I have had food thrown at me and almost assaulted because food was cold or the eggs were runny. You dont have to be rude for people like u to treat people like me like trash. I know u are rude because you called me an idiot and you dont even know me and u obviously have never served. Your probably one of those people who come into my busy restaraunt after church on Sunday and complain cause you have to wait longer for your food. Which proves my original point, if you had ever served you would be u
The quote you commented on did not say anything about you being an idiot. You made that assumption on your own. I think you are over reacting and being dramatic about being assulted because of bad food. No where in this topic has anyone said they are rude to servers or that servers are beneath them.

I have to agree with part of the first statement. Who came up with this tipping crap? Why should we have to pay someone to do their job? Shouldn't that be the restaurant owners job? No one tips me to do my job. I get a flat salary and that's it. I refuse to give some waiter / waitress 15%- 20% of my bill.
because servers are only paid $2.16 or so a hour thats why the need tips

As I read these post I couldn't help but think how stupid and ridiculous this thread is! Who has a right to degrade ANYONE for their JOB. Wheither its a president of a bank or your local food servers, at least they are WORKING! Also, just because someone is a server doesn't mean their not college educated nor that they need a new job. Servers can become Managers whom makes really good money. There are some "lucky" kids that can go to college and not have to work, but there is also those whom CHOOSE and those whom HAVE TO WORK their way through college. My son is one of these local servers. He WORKS 40 hours a week and also ATTENDS college full time. He has his own apartment and pays his own bills. Yes there are some people whom shouldn't work in the food industry and yes a "tip" should be your choice, but when you go to a place of business that you know charge a percent for tips then don't complain or DON'T GO THERE! And if you don't like the servers then thats another reason you shouldn't go there. But don't pass judgement on all servers because you had a bad experience nor should you stereotype people.

Everyone who is getting upset over this thread is not reading it correctly. The whole argument has been -

Why aren't servers paid a flat "normal" hourly rate and abolish tipping?

It's not fair for servers to have to depend on customers to pay their wages nor for the customer to have to pay the servers wages. The idea of tipping is archaic.

I am not saying anything negative about servers. The only negative is the serving pay system.

It should be the employers responsibility to pay their employees. In these bad financial times people can barely afford to dine out once a month much less to tip well. Even though the server may deserve a better tip the public cannot afford it.

The reason servers make 2.20 hour it gives the customer a chance to rate the service. If you think you would like it if the owners paid them then you be wrong. Say the owners pay 10 bucks an hour and you got bad service it won't matter you won't have a chance to rate the service by leaving a tip. Instead that meal that cost 10 bucks just now cost you 15. Who you think is going to pay that not the owners the customer.will pay. People are lazy it doesn't matter how much a meal cost they will eat out. So let's get the owners lay servers 10 bucks an hour and they will increase your cost 20 percent see how you like that
