In my opinion school uniforms could offer allot of advantages not only at school but at home.
At home the “I don't have anything to wear to school today excuse would be eliminated”
The amount of money that parents would normally have to come up with for school clothing would be drastically reduced. At school every student regardless of their financial situation could at least go to school without the fear of ridicule or embarrassment related to poor quality clothing. A uniform is not going to stop the smart ass rich kid from being just that, but it could very well boost the self confidence of an underprivileged child enough to allow themselves to succeed. In this day and age anything that can be done to shed a positive ray of hope for a child should be taken advantage of. Every child regardless of their background or history should be allowed to focus on getting an education rather than dreading every moment of the educational process due to feeling inferior.

Who ever thinks that uniforms will save families don't know about the children who get hand me downs from friends and strangers and also Goodwill and yardsales. Uniforms aren't cheap to buy , you have to have down to the shoes and socks that are the same. Does anyone really think this would be cheaper for most of Laurel Co. children ? Someone doesn't know about all the free lunches that our county qualifies for . When you qualify for free lunch you can't buy uniforms that would probably an arm and a leg . This would just be another way for the system to tell parents what to do also . We are willingly giving more and more parental control over to the schools .

The idea of school uniforms is nothing new. This has been done for many years with great success. It equals out the playing field for all the kids. No one is dressed better than anyone else, and uniforms are more decent than what some children are wearing to school. That alone would cut down on alot of discrimination problems. As far as expense goes, the school system could easily set up a plan to help all students afford the uniforms. If you don't think this is a good idea, go to one of our local schools and watch as school is dismissed and the kids come out. Some look like porn stars, hookers, hobo's, tramps and criminals. The uniform idea would be a BIG help to them, whether they like it or not.

Again , you are taking parental supervision away from parents . The parents should be responsible for how the child dresses . And as for school setting up a program to pay , you must not be subjected to all the cost of everything the schools send home . Leave parents to make the choice as to what a child wears .

Uniforms for my child is cheaper than buying new clothes. His pants were on the clearance racks at Kmart for only $2.99. I paid about $7 for a few shirts and found his casual shoes clearanced at Walmart for $3. I guarantee I spent less than most families for his uniforms. As far as hand me downs go, if uniforms were mandatory they could still be passed down and would be plentiful. I find nice uniforms at Goodwill all the time. Sometimes still with tags. When my child comes out at dismissal, I am so proud at how all the kids look neat and all the same. It sure takes pressure off of me trying to keep my kid in clothes good enough for all year like the other kids.

Their is no scientific proof that school uniforms improve a students grades. This is what is needed insuring each student has the education to succeed.
How far we have come from students in Laurel County going to school in Bib Overalls and bare footed to a discussion of school uniforms.
When Students with Bib Overalls went to school in this county I feel the educational standards were a lot higher than they are today.
We have succumbed to Political Correctness.

No please! Laurel county has so much negative things going on that we don't need the moral of the students any lower also it would line someones pockets getting the clothing contract kinda what is ruining our school system now! My opinion! We still have alittle ways to go before this county school system hits rock bottom! So wake up!!!!

I have to agree with you. In some school systems you must purchase uniforms direct from the school to "ensure uniformity."
This would be just another money racket for Laurel County.

My daughter attends StCamillus & wears a uniform. We love the uniforms, I just ordered her a complete set from old navy for $200. This included long & short sleeve shirts, Bermuda shorts, pants, sweaters, jumpers, & socks. I only need to get shoes and I am done with school clothes for the year. Every shirt coordinates with every pant so at 9 she can prepare her own outfits no problem, every morning.

No more Is she asking for Northface jackets, Guess jeans, or other hugely exspensive items. So I know she is not distracted at school by what others have.

You must understand most parents in Eastern Ky including the mecca that is LONDON don't have walking around sense much less enough sense to properly dress their children. You guys are afraid you'll have to buy uniforms and it'll cut into your cigarette, bingo, lottery and pill budget.

St Camillus is a Private School where the parents must also pay tuition for their child to attend. a lot of people in Laurel county cannot afford $200 for school uniforms. Not only that their isn't one single scientific study that shows School Uniforms actually improve grades.

I personally think it would be the best thing to happen to our schools. I don't know how many times I have witnessed students being ridiculed over what they were wearing. Rather it be not the right style, not a name brand, out of season and so on. These children can't help what their patents can and can't afford. This way, with uniforms, everyone is on an equal playing field. Everyone had the same standard outfit. This would help stop a lot of students from being picked on and bullied! I wish we could start tomorrow, to be honest with you!
