Fox News banned in Canada because, unlike in America, it’s illegal to lie on broadcast news

Canada’s Radio Act requires that “a licenser may not broadcast … any false or misleading news.” The provision has kept Fox News and right-wing talk radio out of Canada and helped make Canada a model for liberal democracy and freedom. As a result of that law, Canadians enjoy high quality news coverage, including the kind of foreign affairs and investigative journalism that flourished in this country before Ronald Reagan abolished the “Fairness Doctrine” in 1987.

In the Unites States, Fox News and talk radio, the sock puppets of billionaires and corporate robber barons, have become the masters of propaganda and distortion on the public airwaves. Fox News’ notoriously biased and dishonest coverage of the Wisconsin’s protests is a prime example of the brand of news coverage Canada has smartly avoided.

Remember anything hehe put on here is a lie

Fox News isn't straight up banned in Canada, they have just been denied a license to broadcast. This means that Fox News can still be offered by private cable companies, but it can't broadcast itself over public airwaves.
Which it doesn't even do in the US .It'S a cable news channel like CNN and Msnbc ,so it means nothing at all.People see fox news their just like we do it on cable.

He he is just FOS if you think like he does Fox news is not broadcast in the USA either.Just like 100 other channel that are not broadcast because they are only on cable.

This is why folks should use some brains when reading a news article.

Fox News is not illegal in Canada. Fox is a standard channel offered by many cable companies, available on-Air from broadcasters transmitted from the states to many Canadians, and of course available on satellite or internet delivery. However, Fox just isn't as popular in Canada as other US stations (CBS, ABC, CNN, etc.) merely because it has a lot of US sports content not terribly appealing to Canadians. Finally, course few Canadians watch any US new (let alone news channels) simply because their stories aren't as meaningful to Canadians. So many Canadian cable companies don't carry Fox News (or CNN)-- you get CTV News or BBC World News.

The law referenced only applies to Canadian broadcasters using Canadian airwaves. Basically, it was put in place to ban the CBC (government subsidized) and Canadian broadcasters (using Canadian frequencies) from political ads, infomercials, phony health shows, etc. designed to look like news but selling stuff. Talk shows and discussion groups are not considered news programs. So... this law only affects the CBC and those broadcasting over regular air waves -- it does not affect any US station (they don't broadcast over Canadian air waves), nor any satellite, cable, or internet delivery -- i.e. about 95% of broadcasting is exempt.

Rush and Glenn would be absolutely fine on Canadian radio or TV -- they aren't news programs, they are opinion/editorials. It is just few Canadians would watch or listen to them so Canadian channels would actually carry the show. Switch to satellite radio or TV and it's available.

No big deal here.

obviously you don't know what broadcast means. to broadcast isn't exclusively across airwaves. it means any broadcasting medium

satellite tv is still a type of broadcast medium. tv means televised

broadcast medium - a medium that disseminates via telecommunications.

cable tv is a televised media from cable vs antennae.

its no wonder the usa is in such dire straits. the rate of unintelligence grows every day with opinion

Fox news is seen on the following canadaian cable .

Fox News Channel is currently offered by Access Communications, Bell TV, Cogeco, Eastlink, Manitoba Telecom Services, Rogers, SaskTel, Shaw Cable, Shaw Direct and Telus TV. A notable exception is Vidéotron, Canada’s third largest cable company, which has not added Fox News Channel to its lineup.

Canada prohibits Fox from broadcasting, but private cable companies can carry their propaganda. Their denied broadcasting rights because Canada correctly concluded they lie with regularity.

I don't understand why there was ever a claim that Fox News was EVER banned in Canada.
I live in Canada and have watched Fox News for several years, and they have never missed a day. The network runs 24/7 up here, just like down there.
Not that I believe a single word spoken by the talking heads who are on-camera.
Fox likes to claim that every other network is biased, but it is a fact that people who actually regard Fox as a 'news source' are less educated about a topic than any other person.... even those people who don't watch the news at all.
Networks like CNN or MSNBC might be biased..... but Fox is pure fiction.

hehe, I do enjoy alot of your posts. However, in the interest of truth and fairness which is always what I represent, I find that according to Snopes, this is not true. Please feel free to post a reputable (I know that's not easy these days) outlet for this. But for now, according to Oct 2012/Snopes, this is not the case.

I will continue to be honest in all my posts whether it is or is not my political favor.

It is true that an extreme right wing commentator was banned from the UK quite awhile back for "instilling fear and hate". It is also true that the major shareholder of Fox News, Murdoch & band, got in a world of other trouble in the UK for tapping phones, interfering with a police investigation and the likes. Some involved have comitted suicide...others gone to trial and his purchasing another major newspaper in the UK....null and void. And yes, Fox does totally distort truth and make mountains out of mohills. This is not to say that Canada isn't keeping a close eye on their broadcasting techniques.

What isn't a leftover is, we're happy to report that the housing market was up 7.4% annually this past November, the strongest and highest since the GW housing market crash 2006. First, GW crashed housing, then the stock market in 2008. What a man! Bada Boom! But thankfully, after 3 strikes, he was out....Wars, Housing market, Stock market. I thought the man would never stop wrecking this nation.

And I hate to think of the 41,000 new seasonal employees Lowe's will be hiring for spring and the 9,000 permanent part time workers in N.C. coming up. Work is work...wherever it is and for as long as we have it.

Obama found a way to save this country from being taken over entirely. He will go down in history and yes, it cost alot of money to rebuild what GW burned down to the ground.

In your defense hehe, I checked Snopes. I found nothing indicating that SuckUp is a $hit spewing moron, yet we all know it is true. Further, I couldn't find anything indicating that you are a $hit eating moron, but again, we all know it is true. Snopes is not always right.

Fox News, since their propaganda started Nov 2008, is doing whatever they can, at the expense of our President, to keep their ratings up. The higher the ratings, the better the contract negotiations. I think our President has more to be concerned about for our Nation than what piece of dust Fox's snails can have their 999 investigative team search for. It must keep them on overdrive. Christie was one of Obama's biggest critics until he worked directly with the MAN and learned the real truth about the MAN.

What is true is, Hillary tore that Republican Senator to shreds yesterday in a White House conference televised. He tried to distort the truth and take it all out of proporation because the cameras were on it, but Hillary laid into him and shut him down! The more the Nation sees Hillary in these actions, the more the Nation wants her for President 2016. That Senator looked like a sheepish puppy dog by the time she got done with him.(and some of you hill people think you can clean up world hunger on Topix. lol)
