I honestly think that the town of Superior was irresponsible in there acts against the Magma Hotel!!! I think that they should have done something to it so that it could be possibly liveable, instead of letting it rot for 23 years. If they would have stop to think of its importance to our town's history or at least show a little more consideration to the downtown's appreance. So now, how long will it take to do anything as it is? Will they destroy it? They think that it was the owners responsibility to do something but they could have done something themselves. The Magma Hotel defines our town since 1912 and I am not going to let them destroy the Magma Hotel!!!!!!!!!!

I think the town of Superior, concerned citizens, historic minded people, and all who care about the Magma Hotel should come up with a plan to save the historic building.

Nobody cares about the Magma Hotel or Superior. Let it all fall down around them.

Concerned Citizen, that's a mighty dangerous statement for a Resolution Copper Mining employee. Your attempts to portray Superior in the worst light possible and in so desperate need of Resolution Copper's salvation are pretty transparent. Just the thing one would expect from a RCM employee who is good enough to whore yourself to a foreign interest, yet who is far to good and sophisticated to actually live in the town in which you work, and so be a part of its revitalization. Shame on you.

Unfortunately, the Magma Hotel is in private ownership (NOT from Superior, I should add), and the owners have claimed that they are unable to do anything about the hotel. They have passed the buck to the Town, which has provided $80,000 in emergency funding to hire an asbestos abtement/demolition firm to come in and do what the owners of the hotel (again, NOT from Superior)claimed they could not do. And again, Concerned Citizen from Mesa, your overwhelming concern, albeit negative, for my town is certainly...interesting.

I was raised in Hayden and am always thinking of returning. I try to get pics off the net but don't recognize much. Maybe the land marks have been torn down there, also. When I Google the maps I do see the pool. Amazing that it is there. Anyone like to fill me in? As for the hotel, it is very sad that old buildings arn't treated like old friends.

I've been thinking about moving to Superior. I was there one day, just after the front of that building Magma Hotel, collapsed. Some things I liked about the town...historic old downtown, unique history, a few well meaning residents and businessess. I wonder about the infrastructure of a town like Superior, the poluted water, the ancient material infrastructure, the cult of old-time families. I sensed drug abuse problems in the community, poor schools and the continued impact of mining in the community. It's a big questionmark. I love old historic towns but they also have big problems.

It's so sad to hear that the Magma Hotel is so far gone. I lived there in 1944- 1952. My parents owned the La Olla Auto Court (as it was called then) Superior has a special place in my heart. I visit from time to time. I have two grandparents buried there. My father was buried there, but when my mother passed away, we had him moved to Tucson to be beside her. I miss Superior.

It has been a while since anyone has posted, and as far as i know the magma hotel still waits to be resurected from its long 100 years of history to start a new. for what the magma hotel ment to people you would think the town would do something. i have recently watched the movies that have the magma hotel in it, it is so amazing to see how just a movie can show its beauty. its funny because to movie makers it ment a lot. but apparently not to superior. i wonder how long it will take before it falls because of no one caring. i love this building and there are other people i know who will back me up on that. its sad to see what has happened to it........ in our hearts and mind it will always be the biggest thing to superior.... and if it does fall... for what its worth, nothing can be built over it. nothing will be able to replace it. may the magma hotel be strong with us!!!!!
