Charlestown Races has taken advantage of people far too long! Now that MD will be getting slots,
They figure it's time for them to get table games.
They where so sure they would get them back in 2007 that they built a big addition that customers have been paying for (worst slot payouts
anywhere, American casino reports)for years.
VOTE NO, in fact contact your local representive
to let them know PENN NATIONAL will not continue to take advantage of patrons.

You are clueless. It will take MD years to get those slots, what you didn't think that would happen over night?

They will get them this time, whether you or anyone else wants them, get over it! They are already gambling and tables is not going to change anything.

You don't even know what you are voting NO too!

Sore loser

I am always fascinated by the folks that write negative commentary about the table games and forget that the slots have been there for how long now. The behavior has been planted and from what I can see there has been no big security risks or crime that has infiltrated the community in fact the community has grown and the budget has grown as well. Yes, I know it was reduced some this year but so has just about everything everywhere- we are in a recession.
I am a patron of CTRS from the horse racing side of things and we have seen some pretty big races come to town and I can now even watch it HRTV. So, bring on the games- help the community and all of the ancillary business thrive. It is just good business

To Big Take:

Playing table games is "Voluntary". Most people that play poker think it is fun. You are playing against other players and not against the HOUSE.

Are you sure you are not just trying to keep the Marylanders in Maryland for the slots parlors that will soon be built.

Hi there I am a patron of the slots just to let you know.My wife and I spend about $2500 a week there yes 2500.I would just like to point out a few unseen things about the (Track) or casino. From the begining the track offered West Virginians work and ok pay.But now most of the jobs have been given to forign labor and or (cheep) workers. This is a fact I happen to work some of those people myself from time to time. Not to say its wrong but if some people didnt get greasie pockets it would not happen.I do think West Virginians are getting the shaft.Hell we didnt eaven get (Fireworks) this year. And as far as 500 jobs Bull they have already hand picked there workers for the table games. In fact they moved one person from another state in 2007 to head up there table games. But they didnt get the games in 07.So they kept that person and moved to another spot within the casino. But wait the casino does do good for some of us they sponcer (Meals on Wheels) which is great and they have done some good for the school system.I guess im on the fence and when it comes down to it its a (catch 22).There are alot of things people wont ever know about the whole thing. Also remember these coments are from a person who likes to GAMBLE alot. And we have been around for a long time.

To your point...the folks in Jefferson County have been participating in the benefits of the CTRS for some time without realizing it. You mentioned a few things and there are many more. I don't go to the slots but enjoy the horses. I'm all about growing the business so we can benefit even more from everything that comes from CTRS because without it we would have nothing but a ghost town.
Tables games I will vote Yes...it just doesn't really change anything that is already going on.

Please do not be offended but I find your arguement has many follies, aside from the atrocious spelling. You say that "most of the jobs have been given to forign labor and or (cheep) workers", even if the track gives jobs to those who are from another country most still live in WV. West Virginian's have the same ability to obtain a job at the track as anyone else. For that matter most of the people who work in Jefferson County don't work in state! Do you work in state? Would you have WV workers who don't work in state be penalized in another state for being an out of state worker?
There are many more important things than "not eaven" getting fireworks. I'm a Senior at Jefferson High School, the school has suffered many cut backs. Our text books are old and torn some pages missing, to go on a field trip students must pay to get a substitute to teach the class while their teacher is away, the school was even unable to supply us agenda books at the beginning of the year. These are along with many other cut backs. So your firework arguement is mediocre.
In 2008 WV made $4.3 billion through tourism, most of that was from gamblers. If we were to vote yes on the table games we could elevate the money flow, making our economy run more successfully.
Bottom line WV needs the money, our schools need the money. Please next time before you post look at what you're saying. Incorrect spelling or grammar can make you look foolish and your point invalid.

Your commentary is well stated and thoughtful. I particularly appreciate it coming from a student whose perspective is from yet another side of the controversy. Vote yes for the table games!

Personally, I hope the gaming tables are passed in Charles Town. It's not the citizens or the employess fault they are treated poorly by their employer. And, when the commerical says "they'll be making $45,000. per year"..I do laugh. WHO will making $45,000. per year? Do they mean with tips? Because the employees do not make alot of money. And, they have high turnover of employees because they are treated like garbage. Unless it's changed, and, I seriously doubt it. Penn National
should treat their customers better. And, they should be alot more considerate of their employees.

We hope tables are passed. But, we'd like to know why Jefferson County will get a measley six million? The casino is making hundreds of millions. If it does'nt pass this time, increase the amount of money to about 20 million, and, it will passed. Six million dollars is not a lot of money for our schools. Think about it.

Charlestown slots treat their employees like dirt and the payoff is the lowest on the east coast. penn national pays the lowest wages in the business and the powers to be in charlestown are all the low life of the business. Not professional, not honest, and certainly not looking out for the customer!! Remember it is the smallest payout of any casino on the east coast. Ask anyone of your friends if they ever won over what they spent at the casino....I'll tell you the answer is no!!! Many people(locals) have lost everything...jobs, businesses, marriages, etc.I hope that table games fail!!!!

Well, all is history now and to your commentary I have learned there are 3 parts to a story... yours, theirs, and the truth.
You can't be a persons moral compass~ they will always find what they are looking for and when it comes to marriage some things are simply symptoms of what is wrong not what ruined it. So with that have a safe and happy holiday and keep your family well.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Sagittarius

If you have any worries or problems today, a close colleague could have the answers you seek. Work will be satisfying, and anything to do with children should be very rewarding today. There could be friction with a relative, but it's nothing serious and things will sort themselves out in due course. Again, you must pay attention to your health, Saggitarius: skin infections are a strong possibility at the moment.
