I havnt seen one post on this website without some glaring racist hatred being put forth by native hawiians. I wonder if its lack of education that causes this *like with the KKK people in the mid west* or if its jealousy of the American culture who rather easily bribed the king of Hawaii and took the island. Will the current generation of racists natives need to die of old age before this hatred ends?

Racism is the "Elephant in the parlor" that no one mentions in Hawaii, yet it is a very large elephant. It is true that the native populations have been subjected to blatent racism themselves up to and including a past governer pardoning outright murderers of them. This was a long time ago; but hatred and ignorance is long lived. To be "White" and live in Hawaii now is to live with the "Stink eye" so be it. Consider the source.

I am going to the Big Isle next week. I will let you know how it is in practice. I hear there is a big problem with drugs (ice heads).

hawaii isn't that bad...certain parts of the island can be racist...mostly the rural parts of the islands...but in the city areas there isn't really any racism...some hawaiians, i am one myself, are racists, mostly kids, but they learn it from their parents...some hawaiians forget that if america did not take over hawaii...some other major country would have and the best would be hawaii...what also irritates me is hawaiian activists who hate the fact that america took over, but i'm pretty sure they have cell phones, and cars...they are just hypocrites...racism isn't that big of a deal in hawaii...its the dumb ass kids that are racists...there are adults that are racists but they are usually from the rural sides of hawaii and not the urban and suburban areas...i hope no one has been subjected to this...but i know that at my school, kamehameha schools, the one that has been in the news lately, has racists in the kids,i think it's sad, but then again in hawaii...people have respect for our school and it's hurtful when someone has to file a lawsuit to get in...i mean it's a someone's money...they can give it to anyone they please and if they choose to give it to native hawaiians only...then it's their business and no one elses...it's all about respect

I think you would feel a little different if it was a school that native hawiians were forbidden to attend. Someones heratige has nothing to do with their education, period, if you think that it does then you might be a redneck :P If education for the poor is such a problem in hawaii why not have a normal school system that everyone can attend, but with higher educational standards? The argument that white people send their children to private schools is a myth, at least 90pct of white people attend public schools if not more, there just arnt that many private elementry and highschools around. In the city i grew up in there were only 3 private highschools, all were christian and all were expensive, too expensive for the vast majority of people to attend. The answer to this problem is raise the educational standard of public school systems in Hawaii, and to eliminate racial bias in enrollment processes, private or public.

i actually wouldn't mind because it's just like scholarships, certain races can get them, but others can't. Hawaii's DOE can't afford to have the public school upgraded, so Hawaii at the moment does not have the resources to create higher educational standards, while Kamehameha does. To the issue of white people and private school: there are more white people in private school than any other race in private school, no matter the percent of white people in private school.

So basically your saying if your white and your poor your children are screwed educationally? But if your poor and Native, then your kid might get a decent education?

If you are white and you are poor, why would you want to stay in the Islands and use the limited resources the Hawaiians have? Let the Hawaiians use the little they have for themselves.

That is like some whites claiming to be part Indian
(cherokee)and wanting to go to the rez and claim their land and gov't. housing. Let the Natives have it. We took everything else.

We haoles have more than enough. We can always go back to our Island of "Ireland". Or stay in America, and kick the illegals out.
Keep America for Americans.

No, i'm not saying that because well-known people have come out of the Hawaii Public School System alive and well off, such as, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Bette Midler. If you haven't noticed, you're the one sounding a bit racist because you ONLY talk about white people, don't you know there are other races in the world, and in hawaii, most likely they're on the poor end, yet they still make it with a decent education. And if the white people can't make it in living why don't they move to the mainland, like you suggested in another forum?

I know a white mother and her children and they're not rich, so her sons and daughter will be going to public school, and the oldest son is a very smart kid, who won't be getting a "great" education, but it's an education none the less. The mother's not complaining saying my son deserves this education, no, she RESPECTS what the school is doing, but some people from the mainland will NEVER understand the tolerance locals have, we embrace other cultures, we don't PRETEND they don't exist because we know that will only create more problems, like they have on the mainland.

People in Hawaii are not racists, why do people on the mainland have to make Hawaii to be a land full of racist people who don't accept white people. I go to the school, yet a bit chunk of my friends are white, I know a bunch of white adults my parents are friends with. My dad's best friend in the world is white and he's a local, from appearance only you would think my dad's friend is white and from the mainland, but he's trully a local inside and he was from a poor family, and he didn't have a great education, but he made it in the world. My mom is hawaiian, and her best friend is white also.

My dad is a big local guy, tourists from a distant may think he's a punk who's going to be mean them, but my dad would be the one right there helping them from the punks who make hawaii a bad name, my dad just asks for respect back.

Saying hawaii is racist, that's trully a mistake, and technically that's racist in itself. Saying that all hawaiians and locals are racists is a racist remark, so if you are going to say that, then you're racist too.

I can understand, though, where other locals are coming from who harbor racist feelings because we can be cruising in waikiki and it's not a majority but it's the very few tourists that look down upon us. I've been in several incidences, one where they thought i worked there because i was a local and this was waikiki, they acted as if locals should only be there if they work there, I got mad, like any other normal person would, but I harbored it until they left then a swore to myself and let it all out, any racist actions are usually because the tourists show us the racist intentions first and we only react to what they do and a lot of people in hawaii, especially the men, have short fuses.

I would like to make one last comment about your first comment chad, we must not be lacking good education because we learn racist hatred from the mainland, whites, and the KKK, so before you start to fix a problem you should always go to the root, and the root lies with the mainland.

Sorry, though, if I jumped from topic to topic, but it was to make several points.

CAN PEOPLE JUST LET US HAVE WHAT LITTLE WE DO HAVE!!
I AM GLAD THAT WE ARE AMERICANS BUT IT DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO US (HAWAIIAN PEOPLE). BEFORE WE ARE O.K. WITH THIS THEY HAVE TO MAKE IT RIGHT.
ALL WE ASK IS FOR SOME OF OUR LAND BACK. WHICH BY THE WAY WAS STOLLEN AWAY FROM US WHEN AMERICANS OVERTHREW OUR MONARCHY!
ALL WE ASK IS FOR OUR KAMEHAMEHA SCOOLS TO EDUCATE OUR HAWAIIAN KEIKIS. WHICH EVEN THAT WAS TAKEN AWAY WHEN THE HAWAIIAN LANGUAGE WAS FORBIDDEN FOR AWHILE TO BE THOUGHT IN SCHOOLS!!
WHAT LITTLE WE DO HAVE PEOPLE ARE STILL TRYING TO TAKE AWAY FROM US.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE WAY YOU ARE TREATED HERE IN HAWAI'I THEN WHY DON'T YOU GO BACK TO WHERE YOU COME FROM. WE WELCOME PEOPLE FROM EVERYWHERE BUT IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN GO. I HAVE BEEN TO THE MAINLAND AND NOTHING BEATS THE ALOHA SPIRIT HERE!!

HAWAIIANS ARE FULL OF LOVE AND RESPECT. YOU WILL FEEL IT IF YOU SHOW THE SAME WITH US.

KAMEHAMEHA SCHOOLS isn't the only school thats going to give you a great education there are many

so why?? out of all the schools you can send A NON-HAWAIIAN child to why do you have to choose the only school that was made for HAWAIIANS...

God. You guys are being such jerks. Native Hawaiian inhabited Hawaii first, yeah? I've lived in Hawaii for years now, and my best friend is Hawaiian, even though I'm from england. They arn't racist all the way through, and you guys shouldn't flame them for their anger, which they relinquish quicktly.

Rascism is everywhere! I ran into way more of it on the mainland than here!
The schools here... no way I can afford one private school for my keiki, but no matter. Know why? Because when they aren't at school, I TEACH THEM. That's right- if you one parent, you take responsibility!
Like Frank Zappa said, "If you want a degree, go to college. If you want an education, go to the library." That's how.

Well, i've lived here for most of my life. i'm 40ish. been round the block and back. i'm half hawaiian. 1/4 japanese and 1/4 caucasian. i've always been treated as an outsider because i look more asian than hawaiian. i get the tita stares, the F'u, i'll stomp ur A--. typical racist treatment. i just step back and shake my head. then it's all about, we are Hawaiian and we're about Aloha. Well that's a nice gesture, but i've lived here long enough to know that very few Hawaiian/Part Hawaiian etc. fail to practice Aloha. It's just a saying that sounds good.

I am military and want to be stationed in Hawaii, I thought it would be an amazing place to work and live, until a friend who lives there told me about racism between locals and whites. TO the point at times where it was very scary for her as a white women. And possibly very unsafe . She explained that at school her daughter was picked on by a local girl and if she were to stand up for herself against the girl and fight back , she would have problems with the vast majority of local girls in her class and would be in danger of more fights, for simply standing up for herself.
I was also told a few stories of local men actaully beating women and men alike for trivial traffic issues and such. Not that things like that don't happen on the mainland, its just a diffrent race of people I am not accustomed too, and Would not be sure of how to handle such situations, If in fact this is truely a problem. I always thought hawain people were very laid back and calm. I was shocked when she told me these things. Please also don't confuse me. I am not trying to be sterotypical and say that ALL Hawians are this way or that. I know within evry race of people you have extreme cases of every type of idiot imaginable. I am simply asking if this type of thing is common?

there are idiots who live here, but it's the attitude you put towards the locals is what you get out of them, if you smile and have a nice attitude no one's going to bother you, most likely you'll have friends here, but if you come with an attitude, then yeah, you're going to have problems. sadly with the kids, the girl's different, that's all, if someone was different from the normal in that area, they'd get picked on, it's sad and unfortunate, but the truth. i think the child and parent should take it up with school administration or it's going to continue

The thing about the kids getting picked on- oh, yeah! Kids from the mainland do seem to get bullied a lot more!
When we first moved here, my oldest started 1st grade. In the first month, he was jumped by three other boys twice! Now, I taught my kids not to fight, not to call names or walk up and wail on anyone else. But I also taught them to defend themselves. So the first time these boys picked on my boy, he did what I told him and tried to find a peaceful way out. He got punched and kicked anyway. I talked to the school and they said they would talk to the boys.
The second time he got jumped, he fought back. He fought back really well. Guess who the school chose to punish? MY BOY. The principal actually told me it's not the other kids' fault that they are violent (and they all three had a history of violence, even back in 1st grade) because, get this- THEY have problems at home! Like my kids didn't? So my boy had to go through anger management and suspension. The other boys, the ones who attacked him, were given pats on the back and told it's okay. So now they think they can hurt others and not have any negative consequences. I changed schools.
To top it off, last year at the kids' end of year ho'olaulea, I went to get water and overheard three very large men(talking Refrigerator Perry size guys here) talking about a kid who had recently been beaten up. I wasn't paying much attention until I heard one of them say, "Ah, no matter, was jus' one haole boy anyway. I like see mo' dem get licks." They all laughed and I went absolutely cold inside.
Racism and ignorance still prevents the basic human right to pursue peace, love, and happiness.
