Finally some sanity that a jury can look beyond the issue rammed down their throat by a sneaky DA and realize that they could have been hit by anyone, for dressing in dark clothing and walking down the side of a highway !! Sure the guy was drunk and he deserves to not have a drivers license anymore along with some hefty fines, and of course you feel bad for the girls who were injured. However the girls placed themselves at risk, and they should pay the consequences, which they are. Good work to that jury !!!!! SHAME ON THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY ! Now take away the mans drivers license please though for a while as that should have been the penalty from the beginning, instead of trying to pad your conviction record. DWI is no joke.

Just like Wisconsin to let a guy walk for drunk driving.

the previous commentor is correct....anybody who dresses in dark clothing and walks along a road is asking for paralysis. we should all give drunks the added buffer they need from hitting small children, grandmothers and those crazy walkers. shame on the DA for trying to charge a drunk driver for running someone over. i do it all the time. it could have been anyone.

i am so sorry for this girl. in my opinion, growing up with an alcoholic father, this mans alcohol level was a major part of the reason she is paralyzed. if he hadn't been drunk, he would have been able to miss the girls. although it may be that they were wearing dark clothing, if he hadn't been drunk, he would have been more able to miss the girls by seeing them long before he hit them. he wouldn't have been slow about hitting the brakes and turning the wheel to avoid them.
i worried every day when my father drank that he wouldn't hurt someone, luckily he didn't. i hope this gentleman can live with what he has done to this girl. i am sorry for him for having to live with this, but it was his choice to drink and drive. hopefully he has learned his reason to get some help.

WOW! He should of got in trouble the jury as usually doesn't base according to the law, they base by what they feel or how they feel about the person. They were childeren who made a mistake and now one is left paralyzed because a drunk man didn't see them who if he wasn't drunk probably would of been more of an attentive driver don't ya think? I feel bad for the child and the fact that once again justice was NOT served.

This guy should be going to jail. The girls walking along the road in dark clothing at night may be a dumb choice, but not nearly as dumb as his choice to get in his car after drinking. Maybe instead of going to jail he should have been sentenced to living the rest of his life in a wheel chair. Anyone want to take bets on how soon it will be until the next time he drives drunk? He may never get caught again, but you can bet he hasn't learned his lesson. Too many people are out there driving drunk and too many innocent people are suffering the consequences while the guilty ones go free to do it again next weekend.

Hopefully he's learned his lesson and is getting some help? In the majority of cases like this, Reba, the person only drinks MORE!

A few years ago in North Dakota, a drunk teen crashed into a loaded tanker truck and killed three of his friends riding in the car with him along with the tanker driver who passed away a few days later (he had third degree burns over about 85% of his body).

Family and friends of the three victims lobbied for a relatively easy sentence for the driver as he was a family friend. They felt he had a chance to turn his life around. Well, guess what? The kid is a bigger drinker than he ever was before!

Stop wasting time with these stupid drunks and throw the book at them. Way to go, jury members!

There are consequences for your actions but apparently not in Outagamie County.

I believe what the decision means is that ANYONE would have hit these people, not just someone who was intoxicated. It is unfair to punish someone for accident that was NOT their fault. Contrary to what the prohibitionists at MADD say, every alcohol involved accident is not caused by the alcohol.

unbelievable verdict. He should be forced to pay the medical expenses and for pain and suffering. I sure would like to know what reason the jury gave
for their "not guilty" verdict.

I just heard about a man in Fargo that went jogging early in the morning. As he went under a bridge(underpass), he was hit by a car. I don't believe that any charges were filed.

I can't believe that a jury wouldn't factor in the fact that his response time at 2 times the legal limit was a drunken response time. So if a drunk driver plows into a parked car cuz it was dark & there wasn't any lights on it then it's ok cuz it was dark. What a joke!

Allow me to say, for the record.
He definitely should not have been driving.
Now, where were the girls walking? Was it really on the side of the road? Was he coming over a hill when he hit them?
There are so many things that the article didn't say that it is really ridiculous for any of us to attempt to make any logical conclusions whatsoever. Just my humble opinion.

By the by. Did anyone notice the Yahoo ads that to the right of the page. They are all for lawyers advertising their trade defending drunk drivers.

what a surprise. usually it's the teens who are driving erratically, drunk, and smashing into people. most of the time they don't even need alcohol to drive their parents' cars recklessly and cause deaths on the roads.

How drunk was the jury? He was drunk and he actions caused injuries. That sounds like a guilty charge if you ask me.

what are those jurors thinking this guy had a alcohol level of .19, whether these girls where in black, green, white or orange he hit them from behind, what didn't the jurors UNDERSTAND about the alcohol level, they just let him off to go ahead and do this again, and again, had it been one of their children they would be feeling different. I just can't believe he was found not guilty, what is our society coming to these days??????????
