This is so sad. The elderly man that shot the boy must be feeling terrible. The real tragedy here is that people are living in so much fear that they are shooting at strangers.

GUNS SHOULD BE BANNED!! People do not need guns to hunt for food anymore. Go to the supermarket. Too many people die in error because people who don't know how to use them are killing innocent people. Stop the madness!!

a sad day however the nurse was trying to be the paramedic and driver we have ambulances with trained personal to take care of these situations and with this nurse she added to the problem. in trying to take care of the boy she caused him to have to wait longer and go through more stress when had she called 911 she might still be alive my thoughts and prayers are with all involved and i hope every one remembers to call 911

This storie is a tarrible tragedy, i know the two teenagers involed in this. The elderly man should be punished he should be aware of whats goin on around him if there is a party nextdoor there will be people out and by one thoughtless act he has destroyed many lives! Guns should not be banned, but givin more strict rule, you should be givin a warning. The Boys maybe could have identifided them selves if they knew about the man there. But June Nalls is a hero to many in Kaufman because she was caring any only thought about helping the wounded so his life would not end, yet in the prosses hers did and the wounded boy is now in ICU. The 16-year-old boy June Nalls son is doing fine physically, but he now hows to deal with the fact being there, seeing his mother like that. In my oppion he has a rough time to get throw, without his mother. Think about it if you were him and saw that and you bestfriends is in the ICU what would you do how would you feel, this isnt like you see in the movies its Very much so real, like a nightmare you cant wake up from. They are all in my prays. and the best to help you move on and be happy agin.

The culprit here is the idiot who was driving on the wrong side of the road and then left the scene. The shooting is incidental but makes a good headline. Not even asking why two teenaged boys were out wandering around at night while parents were asleep.

This comment is in responce to hangman. It really saddens me that no matter what happens or what the situation is there will always be hateful negative people out there that think they have a right to comment. First of all you DO NOT live in our area and do not know what you are talking about, June lived less then 2 miles from the hospital she was taking the boy too. The ambulance would have had to come from farther then that which would have taken longer. She had 20 years experience in nursing so when she made the decision to take him instead of waiting then maybe that was because he couldnt wait. you make it sound like she made this situation worse. this is a horrible thing that happened and the one's at fault are the man that did the shooting in the first place then had the nerve to get on T.V. and say that he isnt taking any responsiblility for this b/c the boys were in his yard. they were walking home from another neighbors house and not doing anything wrong, we live in the country and have no sidewalks so then cutting through the mans yard was normal it was either walk through his yard or on the highway at night, then you have the person that crossed over lanes and left the scene of the accident. But you want to act like she caused this herself. No the accident didnt help the 15 yr old it made his injury's a lot worse but she didnt cause the accident either. the 15 yr old will live and make a full recovery, which he may have died from the gun shot if she had waited for the ambulance. Please just think about the family and friends that might be reading before you want to put your 2 cents in on a situation that you know nothing about.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the people involved in this story. June died helping someone. Her family will always remember this. Especially, her son, everytime he sees his friend. I'm glad the boy is okay. On the other hand, the man who shot the boy, and the driver who hit her, will live the rest of their life, knowing they caused all of this. Some people should be a little bit more respectful, when posting these comments. No you don't have to know these people personally, to show a little sympathy but we are all human, and those of us alive are proof that life is special. Don't take it for granted!! For those who say mean things, your mother must have not taught you, "If you can't say anything nice... Don't say anything at all!"

I think this is so sad all around. On one hand, you have an older person who reads the newspapers, etc. and is scared, especially if there is a party going on next door and he doesn't know who's over there. On the other hand, you have two teenage boys who want check out what's going on. (typical in the country) And now you have a wonderful young women who was trying to save a kids life and died in the process. Hardly anyone is talking about the idiot who was driving on the wrong side of the road. THAT should be the center of attention. I just wonder if everyone would be talking about this as much if she would have made it to the hospital. I don't think the man would've shot if he knew who it was. I don't think the kids were trying to break in. We need to shift our attention on the man driving on the wrong side of the road (and failed to stop)(and was alledgely drinking). That's who killed her. Also, we need to keep her son and husband in mind. I definately believe they will need all the help they can get trying to get through this tradgedy for a long time.

I think the old man should be punished for what he did. He could have said something and the boys would have the chance to say something. The country is so different from town. I don't believe they meant any harm to him. It wasn't 3 or 4 oclock in the morning it was before 10 when a lot of folks are still up and about, I think that if you plan to take someone's life you should at least give them a warning. "Gosh it's the least you can do". As for June, that is a real tragedy. She was a very kind person and was doing what she thought was the best thing for the child. As for the driver, he should loose his life just as she has.

How soon we forget that some laws just do not work and only create a bigger problem
Prohibition did not work
Drug Laws do not work

In cities where guns are banned - Washington DC for example have higher rates of gun violence than cities do not have those bans.

Charles Bronson said it best, only idiots with guns make me nervous. We don't know the circumstances of the shooting. That will come out during the grand jury hearing. Under the letter of the Texas PC from me understand the old man was justified in shooting. However, I wouldn't have shot until an attempted break in was made into my domicile. I am a firearm instructor and used to carry firearms for a living. The incident itself is a big gray area with respect to the shooting. With respect to the vehicle accident, the person who hit the nurse is at fault. The old man who shot her son is just incidental. The issue of merit is whether or not the shooting was justified. The person who hit the nurse will have to pay for that crime.

I read all the comments, and I just shake my head in awe. The real culprit in all of this in my opinion is the DRUNK DRIVER!!!! The shooting may not have been seen as such bad thing, but what happened afterwards changed the whole picture. June made the right decision to take the boy to the hospital, the DRUNK DRIVER made the decision to drink and drive. Who do you think made the best decision. June's life was cut short. A young boy will mature and grow up without his mother. A husband will forever mourn the loss of a great wife. Yes, it is tragic, and I attended that funeral, and it was sad. I can only imagine. So, who do you really want to blame for the tragedy? My vote goes to the DRUNK DRIVER!!!!

Was he truly intoxicated??????? no reports have stated that he was. Has anyone seen any real and viable reports that actually say wether the man who struck the Nalls was drunk and intoxicated????? "Failure to render aid" is said to be the cause at the moment. It's easier to pass judgement when you've not experienced it yourself.

Some of these comments have made me both angry and sad. You speak of things that you do not understand, and do it foolishly with passion as if you comprehend the situation. You have no idea what this family is going through. Yesterday I was on the phone with June’s sister (my step-mom) while she was playing their favorite music and crying. She lost her sister and best friend, regardless of who is at fault. There’s nothing we can do to bring June back. The least you could do is respect the feelings of her family members and think before you submit your hateful opinions.

The man shot for two reason and good ones in my opinion. 1st he felt his life was in danger, i don't care that they were kids, this age kid can still inflict injury or death, second of all reports say the boy was shot 3 or 4 foot from the window, ok if you were crossing someone's yard would you go so close to the house you could virtually peer in the window if it was open. So i think even if the boy did not have another agenda except to cut through the neighbors yard, the shooting was still justified, walk on the street or away from the house i would have shot too. And for the record in Texas the law is you can shoot to kill if someone is on your property with out your permission after dark.
I understand you want to defend your friend and i am sure she was a lovely lady, but if the boy A) did not sneak out to begin with B) not get so close to the neighbors house this accident would not have happened and she would still be here today. blame the neighbor if you must, but he is completely innocent here. Any jury in texas would agree. that is why (a far as i know) no charges have at all been filed against this guy. he was within his rights. As for banning guns as someone else said, think about that, ok who would turn them in? the law abiding citizens, and they are not the ones you have to worry about it is those who deliberately kill, rape, steal, etc. Common sense should dictate that.
