I am quite sure that the removal of the light at the intersection was also a contributing factor to this very sad situation.

If the driver was anticipating seeing the light, in the fog, to let him know that he had reached Morton Rd, it would have easily influenced running the stop sign and continuing straight on into the tree that was struck.

I wish they'd put it back. Why did they take it down in the first place?

Where is the intersection from which the light was removed. I live off Morton Rd. and need to know so that something like this doesn't happen to my family.

There was a blinking light at the corner of Morton and Katy-Hockley. Just like the one at the corner of Katy-Hockley and 529.

If I were driving toward 529 in the fog, I'd be watching for the blinking red light. Conversely, If someone was driving toward Morton, they would be watching to the blinking red light to let them know when they were reaching Katy proper.

I bet the driver never even knew he had run the stop sign at that intersection until he hit the curb. Then there wasn't enough time to react.

And what really gets me is that I tried to post this comment on Katy Times sight and was censored. I guess you cannot even SUGGEST that the city may have contributed to this tragedy!

If you head south down Katy-Hockley and stop at the intersection, you'll see the wire still hanging were the light used to be and you will see that the scarred and burnt tree is DEAD AHEAD.

I'm amazed that people aren't talking about this more.

I saw the crumpled front end of the vehicle right after the crash and I don't think they were speeding (or not much). It simply looked to me like they never saw the intersection.
