"How much is your kid's teacher worth?"

Scott, you sound like a caring teacher. Unfortunatly as you look around lots and lots of other professionals are losing their jobs, taking pay cuts etc. We are all in this canoe together, no one is exempt from the pain of the current economy. Your pay comes from everyone's pay, they are suffering, are you saying you don't need to suffer a little too?

The US military just announced it was going to spend $525 BILLION next year. Up $25 billion from GW Bush's fiscal 2009 budget, the disengenuous Republicans are on record as stating Obama is decimating the military. Typical lies from bankrupt minds that gravitate to the GOP.
While the USA scholastically usually resides at 49th place, out of 50 industrialized nations, for the past 40 years, teachers are our country's biggest, important, and essential resource. Give them all a pay raise!
The human animals that attack us use fertilizer, box cutters, and rafts. Trim the military's budget and spread the wealth to the social sector.

"What he fails to mention is that the Transportation Security Administration along with other agencies have prevented not only 9/11-type incidents but countless other criminal activity."

Daido probably did not travel on August 10th.

I traveled on August 10th, the day that the TSA implemented a ban on liquids then later changed it

http://www.tsa.gov/assets/pdf/testimony_senat...

Meanwhile on that day the TSA had no probable cause and what happened is that I along with thousands of passengers were held hostage on airlines for hours. In my case for about five hours on a plane because the passengers were not allowed to de-plane simply because the TSA mistakenly thought that there was a viable threat to our national security yet they inadvertently made the innocent passengers pay for what the FEW guilty have done.

BWI is a testing ground for the TSA... and in my experience the TSA at the BWI Airport is one of the worst where they have power abusing workers trying to intimidate some people.

SOME TSA workers at HNL International Airport are similar too. There are some power hungry people who are abusing their power working for the TSA. Unfortunately some politicians allow them to abuse their pseudo-power but for those of us who were kept hostage on an airplane on the tarmac due to some of the TSA's policies... we did not appreciate being held hostage and I do not appreciate being harassed.

In fact as late as February 2009 they have come out with a "new" campaign for themselves: "TSA’s new secret weapon: politeness" when they should have ALREADY been polite:

Unfortunately some of them are on power trips. That is why I personally have four attorneys just in case any one of them harass me... but Michael Rivero is accurate: Some TSA employees are abusing their power and some politicians allow/ed it. I have experienced it at BWI and at HNL and I can understand why some tourists do not return.

..It surely doesn't appear that a majority of CEO's across America and Hawaii Legislators are in that canoe..

Get real teacher. Life does not always beat a path to your door to say thank you; there is work, frustration, joy, and failure involved. I am glad this teacher finds some joy but am amazed at his attitude that he needs to be thanked. He should look no further than his union and his BOE and DOE bosses. These policy makers are the ones who undervalue his efforts by putting all the money in the CENTRAL OFFICE where the "curriculum" and other folk do their hidden work. GET THE MONEY OUT OF THE CENTRAL DOE AND PUT IT IN THE CLASSROOM.

The letter from Kauai reminds me of another letter I read in the Honolulu Weekly. It states that Hanabusa appointed a former retired Kauai judge to a judge selection panel to fill a vacancy for a non-lawyer panel member. This judge is a homophobe and clearly, Hanabusa thinks very little of this in selecting people of character for this selection panel. Shame on Kauai and Hanabusa. Maybe she would like to be selected for judge someday?

Hanabooboo is all about herself and her desire for major office. She has no respect among folks who value integrity.

anyone care to comment about barney franks meltdown at harvard? this is a perfect example of the disease that has infected the democrat party. I'm ashamed of our leaders behavior and especially the suck-ups in the room giving weak applause in support of barney.
