I read with amusement the outcome of the $1 million Hawaii Superferry EIS. The report declares that the cumulative effects of the Superferry would significantly and adversely affect traffic within the vicinity ...

More lies from Stop Rail Now flunkies. Pereza says "within a week after the vote the route was changed." That's just not true. They're anti-rail hero Charles Djou has proposed to change the route, but it hasn't even been voted on yet. Just one more example of Stop Rail Now blatant nonsense. They lied to the public repeatedly during the election and it obviously hasn't stopped.

"Mayor Hannemann has helped with almost every aspect of improving the living conditions of our community, including trying to help the economy get back on its feet with thousands of jobs that will be created when the mass transit rail system comes on line, not to mention the alleviation of road rage traffic by upwards of 20 percent."

He sort of forgot to fix the sewer, the pot holes and deal effectivly with the homeless but he DID manage to lie and cheat hs way to getting voter approval to build his choo choo to nowhere that will cost the future generations a ton. It will NOT relive traffic, it never was intended to. It may not create jobs. If he is sucessful in getting federal funds they will require open bidding. A company with rail building experience (and there are NONE in Hawaii) is going to win. The only local jobs might be cleaning worksites...for minimum wage.

Both sides lied. The only difference was the pro railers used tax money to fund their lies.

The bottom line is, the rail is not needed and is way to expensive for what it will give in return.

The Impeach Mufi imbeciles are all Stop Rail Now members. They are using the same office and their ring leader is one of Cliff Slater's protoge's. Their attempt to deny any association is typical SRN disinformation.

The "response" to the EIS they are beavering away on is just one more attempt to scuttle the project. The clowns simply do not have any respect for the democratic process.

Shall I reghost my ISP to say Honolulu so you think I am from there as far as the Star ISP decoder?

Never mind the fact that when you chose to use FEDERAL funds you just asked the entire United States to chime in on how THEIR money will be spent.

Let me know when freedom of speech gets revoked ok?

Is he/she really from out of state? I know his ISP says so, but then again, my ISP states Honolulu and I am not. But if he/ahe is and writes of our ills and is keeping current on what is happening that maybe better to have someone out of state look at things from another perspective. Just my thoughts.

Re: Unpaid symphony musicians

Why should government directly fund the symphony? It doesn't fund rock concerts, does it? Let people who are interested in it support it in the form of higher ticket prices and donations.

"respect for the democratic process."

So if you have that respect you have to allow anyone or any group to attempt the impeachment of any elected official...true? In the end it will be up to the voters (assuming they can get the impeachment on the ballot).

"What's an unpaid musician to do?"

by H. Lorrin Lau
Honolulu

I knew a few people over there for many years and it has always been the same. They have to beg for money year after year just to survive.

I would not even consider playing over there in the first place. If the agencies or government does not care enough to pay for your talents then go on and do something else.

I look at music like art. It's a talent and creativity comes from within. No artist that I am aware of works for the government except maybe in North Korea or someplace like?

Best of luck.

And we all need to remember that there are two types of voters...those who vote with their feet and those who vote with their wallets, we need to decide which voter are we...personaaly, I do both.

Eric,
You got to be hilarious as to spending 5 billion dollars to relieve only 20% of the traffic congestion, lol. And as for the thousands of jobs created by the mass transit, besides the construction industry that will benefit from the project, can you name 100 other new jobs that rail will provide? Mufi is also but not totally at fault with the EPA ruling that our sewage treatment plants should be upgraded, it's also the previous administrations and city council. Now with the EPA ruling, Mufi is defiant and would appeal, can you afford another 2 billion in sewage upgrade and rail at the same time? Watch your wallet as it's going to shrink and grow thinner if both projects goes through, lol. Eric, it's time you stop spending and tighten your belt and not go happy crazy spending as you have been doing all this time. WAKE UP! STOP DRINKING THE KOOL-AID AND SMOKING THE VOG AND USE COMMON SENSE.

Great letter, Richard Will! Yeah, we need as much cash infused into our local economy as possible and this Army-Navy game will help go a long way, and all the way around. I really appreciate this.

You know as folks around Hawaii and our nation complain about our economy tanking, millions losing jobs, you should ALL pause to consider you spending your money on foreign import automobiles.

You complain about our economy tanking, and yet you go out and buy a foreign car. If you are hurting or about to lose your job, or are nervous you might not have a job, next time you get out on the road and see all the foreign import cars folks are driving (including, maybe, your own), stop and think about our money going out of country.

Buy local Hawaii produce. Buy American vehicles, products and services.

Stop sending your money overseas and then complaining about our economy or blaming President Bush.

I have never been in a Wall mart.
It is exciting to have the Army-Navy game.
However, I am still going to blame President Bush.

Recalls go on the ballot, Impeachments go to court. Both reguire criminal wrongdoing, not just having a different point of view. The current Imeach Mufi gang is leftover Stop Rail Now people, and the goal is to scuttle the rail project any way they can.

This is in spite of the fact that both Hannemann and rail won at the ballot box a couple of months ago. They are the ones that need your lecture on Democracy, not me.

wilie please read how a city impeachment works. There is no vote on a ballot. Its a judicial procedure decided by judges.
To you other posts - the sewer system has been getting fixed, the roads have been getting repaved as soon as the water/sewer lines are replaced, and the City forced the State to do something about homeless people which the State has been doing a fairly good job at.

Dear Carlos Castaneda:

Thank you for your positive support of our Army-Navy game.

Okay, blame President Bush if you want, but please note he don't drive no foreign import car.

As you journey to Ixtlan, spotting the new-age crystal worshipping incense burners going green along the way, count how many foreign import cars those phony environmentalists are driving.

Folks, we need dedicated, concrete barrier protected, bike lanes for Honolulu.

All this b.s. about "save the planet," "good for the aina," "save the whales," "hug a tree," "eat granola," is hypocrisy if the bike riders going get run over by the fake environmentalists "going green" (thru the red light).

You forget Kailuaresident that it is neglect is the root of the problem, sure roads being fixed, but why don't they paved as soon as they have lines replaced or repaired? For example, have you driven on King Street after the Dillingham intersection? they make things worse by digging up the road and do this patch up work is horrendous. I bet is going to take a year before it is newly repaved. People can't wait that long, you use these roads on a daily basis. As far as sewer lines being replaced, it's only when they have break in the lines when they go in repair it. We need to take care and maintain it on a constant basis and now it takes time to catch up.
