Utility to Customers: "Please Don't Use the Charmin"

There are 5 comments on the Fox4KC story from Dec 17, 2009, titled Utility to Customers: "Please Don't Use the Charmin". In it, Fox4KC reports that:

Oxford, MS - FAST FACTS: Crescent Utilities reportedly sends e-mail to customers asking them to stop using Charmin Tissue apparently clogging sewer lines with "grinders" Charmin listed as "safe for sewer systems" [email protected] For years you've probably heard the advertising slogan "Please don't' squeeze the Charmin", but now a local ...

I am sad to say that I have suffered the "charmin back up"! I had purchased a brand new home with a direct line to the main sewer. Having used Charmin for as long as I can remember I continued to do so. A few months after we moved in, sure enough we had a basement full of backed up sewer! Roto Rooter came in (for quite a fee) and took care of the problem. The technician stated that it was the Charmin in fact that he found when he fixed the problem. We changed brands right away. I loved my Charmin but the mess we were left to clean up was in no way worth it! Once we changed brands we haven't had that problem since!!

This is ridiculous. Its a sewer system, it does what it's supposed to, someone engineered a toilet paper that backs up sewer systems. It works fine with other papers. Logic tells me to switch paper. Not keep buying it and flushing it down. saying they should have thought of this before hand is like saying 'what do you mean my new Excursion wont fit in my 50 year old garage? the builders should have thought of that before they built this place'.

A modification to new installations may be necessary, but tearing up existign systems because someone cant switch brands? seriously, workarounds are avaiable, use them.

If you need another reason to not buy anything from Proctor & Gamble, then know that they still test on animals - even cats and dogs. If you're an animal lover, please contact P&G and ask them to stop this barbaric practice (especially as there are PLENTY of cruelty-free options out there for testing).

How does P & G get dogs and cats to wipe with toilet paper. I can't get my cat to use the litter box. Every time I head to the fridge to get a beer I step on a lincoln log dropped by Herman. P & G have some pretty sharp scientists.

Please expand your imagination beyond "dogs and cats...wip[ing] with toilet paper". All you have to do is read information about it and what they do. It might just open your eyes, like it did mine years ago. P&G isn't the only company that does this, but they are one of the worst and are totally unapologetic about it. There are so many cruelty-free alternatives to testing on any animals out there, but they totally refust to look at it.

I'm not saying this to slam you - not at all - just to possibly get you to think about what some companies are doing. And, yes, I'm NOT a vegetarian, NOT a member of PETA, NOT a radical, just an animal-rights person. They are also those without voices and need our protection.
