I was in the class of 1981 at Hickman Mills. There were a lot of good times. Sorry to see it go.

Yes Rick, my family and your LARGE family all enjoyed South Kansas City and the High Schools back then but it's different today. Actually, it's scary.

I remembered the inner city kids where just moving out to the suburbs and would gang up on the white kids, a new way to fight for us. When a white student was being beaten on the west side of the school many white kids came to the rescue of him as there were about 20 on one. We beat the crap out of them and the cops were called. Guess who got in all the trouble over it? If you guessed the white kids you are right, but from then on we had no trouble. I'll tell the streaker falling through plate glass and the set in at a later time. Oh the good old days.

Some preachers kid decided to streak through the school with his jock strap on. We had a taxidermy teacher that was messing around with the homecoming queen who he later divorced his wife and married, something that would land a teacher in jail today but was not all that uncommon then, he made a grab for the streaker Johnson, his last name not his private area, Johnson dodged him and went through a plate glass door amazingly he was not badly hurt. The students staged a sit in and would not go to class. The media and of course the cops came again. The students finally went to class when the organizers were threatened some jail time. We were certainly an ornery bunch back then!

he was a good guy and not involved in this mischief that I knew of. I do believe that he was one of us street rodders though that drag raced blue ridge every weekend. Some of these cars were turning 14's at KCIR and being drivin to school on monday. Mine was fast but not that fast

No, Hickman Mills High School opened in 1972--not 1973. It began with only juniors and sophomores. The first graduating class graduated in May, 1974.
