It sounds like Guy Belegaud could use a lesson or two on how innovation happens and how it forms the basis of the new economy. Its not so simple to make rocket scientists into alternative energy scientists and I doubt anyone ever told Guy that he had to give up his career because the government wanted him to do something else. Maybe he was one of the "not so smart ones" at NASA and this is just sour grapes.

If the smart ones are really smart, they can apply their skills to any problem. And if they are unwilling or unable, then they can find a job in the economy and give up their fat NASA paychecks.
No one says the government has to continue its space program forever just to provide jobs for both the "smart" and "not so smart" NASA employees. Guy is correct is saying we are spending a lot of money that could be better used in solving our problems here on earth. And the talent in that program is also being wasted.

Sorry Guy, but money spent on NASA is well spent. Exploration always pays back big dividends. If we don't do it some other country will and that country may use space as a weapon against us.

Guy Belegaud is right! Nasa's $17B budget is just what is holding us back from discovering new energy sources. So what if we spend over $500B on defense and $700B on bailing out banks for their own stupidity. No need to further human knowledge when there are many less useful things to spend money on!

And I'm sure that PhD at NASA who's spent his life blackholes and other astral phenomena is just what we need to design a wind turbine. They are practically identical! Why hire scientists that are appropriate for the job when we can retask "useless" NASA scientists?! After all, a scientist is a scientist right?

And does it really matter that it's no longer a technology problem keeping us from meeting our energy needs with wind+solar, but is a matter of having political will to commit the USA to such a big change in energy production and usage? Those pesky scientists should be put to work lobbying congress, not wasting energy by sending stupid research spaceships to other planets!

Margaret Brown hits it right on the nose here, IMPROVE THE BUS SYSTEM first to lure more riders, than think about building a transit system to complement the bus. To bad not everybody sees where a solution to the problem is.

Guy Belegaud shows his short sightedness. His call to stop space research to fix problems on earth is laudable, but silly. When have we ever put money saved somewhere towards helping the earth or its denizens? If we stop funding NASA, we'll put that money towards a new war, or fund some other death research via new weaponry.
It is imperative that we continue space research, and our slow crawl off this planet. We are destroying our home planet. Hopefully, we will eventually develop the ability to move off this planet and colonize elsewhere. When our planet can longer support life (due to our misuse, pollution, or even an asteroid strike) if we have not colonized elsewhere, we, the human race, will be dead. We must keep moving onward and outward, no matter how small the steps. It is the only hope we have for our race's survival.

Guy Belegaud writes: "How much money are we wasting on trying to send just two more guys on the moon for showing off our technology and to find out if hamsters reproduce faster in space or broccoli taste the same,..."

Wow! Amazing how you probably, actually believe the words coming out of your mouth.

Oh, by the way guy...the world isn't flat after all!

Look at the class shown by McCain! God help this great country!! I know it is beyond you Liberals to understand class as you have shown NONE in the past eight years. Congrtulations to the new CIC. I hope you guys take notes in how one respects the office regardless of the person holding office. Hate is useless and does no one any good. I guess your cries of racism are so stupid as is it hs been pointed out to you all along. Eat your crow...and enjoy!!

We have a great bus system, all we need is to get an increase in ridership!!!!!!!! With the decline in gas prices, residents will be heading back to their cars. How will we get customers to ride the rail????????
