As the late wife, of DeWayne Allen Barber, I would like to correct that DeWayne was 33 years old at the time of his death. He was 6 day's shy of his 34th birthday. Also, he was not flown to Munson Medical Center, he was transported by ambulance. From what I have heard, he saved another linemans life who was much his senior. I believe he is a hero. DeWayne's nick name was "Shine" because he was from Grayson, KY!!!!
Please remember every time you turn on your lights that there are, hopefully true, people who take pride in the occupation. My husband died of what they call "Pole Topping". He was topping a wooden pole to replace it with the steel structure
when the old wooden pole came crashing down on him while in the air in a bucket truck. The 35 foot pole crushed his abdomen and chest to the bucket. That is when he was transported to Munson Medical Center. He sustained massive surgery and 22 units of blood before he lost his fight. Needless to say, unless you are omish, never rush a electric lineman as his view of you may be his last.
