Wawra is laughable and pathetic. Heís so dim and demented that he canít grasp that his mentality is the problem . His willingness and desire to commit violence against the two Canadian men is indicative of most Americanís attitudes toward violence. In contrast, the two Canadian menís behaviour is typical of Canadians Ė polite, friendly, and not prone to comitting crimes like the one Wawra wanted to commit.

Pointing out single incidents of violence in Canada is stupid and dishonest. Violent person-on-person rates on a per capita basis in Canada are far below the US in every category (e.g. the US murder rate is three times that of Canada per thousand people, and many killed in Canada die by knives, not guns). And pointing out that western Canadians own a lot of guns is inane and idiotic. Canada has gun registration, and it doesnít prevent any sane person from owning a gun. It only prevents looneytunes like Wawra from owning them.

The US is a nation of trigger-happy, paranoid and sociopathic idiots with tighter licensing of cars and bank loans than the licensing for guns. Iím glad not to be from a country where people expect, anticipate and look forward to gun violence on the street. With any luck, American gun owners will end up shooting each other out of paranoia and leave the country to the sane.

Hi Michigan, from Canada, Edmonton Alberta in fact, 185 miles up the road from Calgary. I clicked on this thread in my local paper to have a look. Precis: fellow was visiting and walking around in a park. He was approached by some other fellows handing out free tickets to the famous Calgary Stampede, which celebrated its 100th anniversary this year - Wills and Kate came, even Garth Brooks played a show, it was a grand time for all. With my assumption he rather looked the tourist, he was asked if he'd been to the show, my further assumption he and the wife were in for free tickets. He was obviously unused to being approached thus and became so decidedly paranoid he even wrote a letter describing his terrifying experience in broad daylight in a wide open public park, apparently fearing for the life of he and his spouse.

Honestly, America, you have so little to fear in a visit here you'd likely consider moving here, just to get away from all the gun violence. Sure, people here have guns, think Alaska - hunters legally entitled to shoot bears, deer, bighorn sheep, etc. Ranchers who need a gun in case of a bear attack. Gun crime is almost a non-entity here in Canada, and the vast majority of cities are perfectly safe to walk after dark.

Please come and visit, and sample our hospitality - we'd love to have you, and we hope you'll go home relaxed and thrilled with having spent the time of your life. We've got mountain parks, vast prairies, thousands of lakes for fishing, and a genuine attitude of welcoming the world - we've got the biggest French-speaking city outside of France, great football and all kinds of other sports, cosmopolitan cities like Vancouver, Toronto, and Quebec City too - festivals abound here in Edmonton - we've got a Taste of Edmonton, a week long food fest, the Fringe, CariWest, our own 'Stampede', a folk festival hosting Bonnie Raitt and Arrested Development this year - we've got it ALL!

We only ask one thing - please, leave your guns at home. You don't need them here, besides which, they're gonna get confiscated at the border and you'll have a big fine too.
