If it's an ethics violation, BRING IT.
How is any Educational Officer going to fire a teacher on ethics grounds for this???
How is any judge in his right mind going to jail someone for doing their job for the sake of kids?
Just do it, and flip 'em the bird while you're at it.
Stranger things have happened. The laws prevent many "common sense" suggestions from taking place. There are many parents who are just waiting for a chance to sue and make themselves millionaires by saying their kids were discriminated against by the teacher since they didn't attend the tutorial session. If the DOE would totally indemnify teachers against such actions, then, yes, they could go ahead and tutor for pay students in their own classes. If not, no teacher is going to risk their career.

Actually, the ethics question was with regard to a teacher "tutoring" the same students he/she teaches during a regular school day. Because he/she gives the grades to the students, working with them outside of regular school, on normal school studies, would be a conflict of interest.
The implication being that if the teachers were not teaching their own students, it may be deemed ethical.
any time outside of contracted work hours is compensated for at time and a half, isn't that ethical?

So what, just cover your okole? Live in fear? Tow the line and say "Yes, massah."
Teachers are entitled to make a stand against the collusion of the Governor, HSTA/DOE and Board.
The ratification vote was no choice at all. It was dammned if you choose the rock, and dammed if you shoose the hard place.
Our union sold us out.

you have no idea of how the teacher's contract works, and what "unpaid overtime" is, do you?

ETHICS?

Before you give charity to government school teachers, wouldn't you want to know which teacher is sending their own child to PRIVATE SCHOOL? Isn't that a concern since the polls show one fourth to a third of all public school teachers send their children to private school?

Your charity would be subsidizing their children's private school tuition wouldn't it?

Government school teachers should subject their own children to the same level of quality education as they demand for the children they are charged to instruct. Fair?

sooo...

your great plan is to punish the hard working individuals, state and gov't workers that choose to make sacrifices to keep food on the table, a roof over their heads, and send their children to a school of their choice? last i checked, this was a free country, and that is one of the choices that they can make.

if you're going to start punishing people for receiving charity, why not the muraoka family from the SB article a couple of weeks ago who gets three free meals a day during the week (breakfast and lunch are free at school, dinner at the homeless shelter) and $1200/month to feed a family of six (four school-age children) and STILL say that it's not enough?

they eat off the taxpayers dime, receive charity meals, have no rent, and complain that the state isn't doing enough?

get your priorities straight. just because you were either too dumb to go to a private school, or your parents didn't care about you enough to send you to one, no need to take it out on people who are either smart enough or motivated enough to get a good education.

Our PTA's planned subjects are the ones BOE and the state has removed from their education plans (music, art, "possibly" PE.) There is no ethical conflict.

My ethics question:
Is it ethical for the State and BOE and HTSA and ethics board to take away the educational days that was paid for by our property tax dollars, then, prohibit the "readily available resources" to be used even though it will be responsibly, ethically, privately funded?

A'we, Lingle, this is the result of your steadfast refusal to apply for federal stimulus dollars.

ethics/education/morals...all the above are taught directly and indirectly by everyone that comes in contact w/ youth...hopefully parents have laid down a strong foundation of truth the their youth can make the right decision when they are challenaged....this past week,@RHS we learned that teachers make decision that may cost them there jobs, and reputation as a educator...What did we learn? teachers/coaches are held @ a higher standard because of the responsiblity they have in the lives of our youth...that responsiblity includes ethics..........

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Taurus

Try to keep your energy a little bit more under control. If you scatter in all directions, you'll end up hot and bothered. Mars tends to rev up your engine, but an awkward aspect to Saturn will make everything go in stops and starts. As soon as you try to shift into higher gear you meet immovable objects at the moment, so the solution is to slow down. There are wonderful, uplifting influences hanging around as well as tricky ones, so just hang in there.
