Hannemann's dream could become nightmare - Hawaii Editorials

Full story: Honolulu Star-Bulletin

All the indications are that Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann is circling Dec. 6, 2010, as the day he becomes governor -- but he may want to keep the Wite-Out close at hand.

Mufi will end up like Frank Fasi and Jeremy Harris. Yet another ambitious politician whose goal of being elected governor was dashed by the weighty demands of Honolulu Hale.

State workers are taking real cuts --- and the City and County workers are simply not doing their share

the legislature needs to rectify this through quick action in taking the TAT share back from the City and County

further, if the economy doesn't recover quickly, the rail GET needs to be put on hold and diverted to the general fund

middle class HGEA workers at the state should not bear the brunt of this crisis while the City and County goes through a cake walk --- and you can add the Board of Water Supply and the Bus to that to

All-true indeed. He has a chance to win big (Governorship), but I'd give him the same chances of winning the Mega-Bucks in Las Vegas (Not Good). If he's driving the City into financial ruins and doing things people don't want well just imagine the State if he is governor. Mufi is a real winnnaahhh....Yeah, OK. Looks like City Managing Director "Captain Kirk" wants to assusume the conn on the bridge than our "DUI Guy" Ex-KHON loser Brennan can be the new but old Managing Director.

I could save the city money and not cost one job. I'd just enforce enlisting laws. I asked one representative on the leeward side and she respondee was, "We don't want people mad at us, they vote," and she said it with a straight face.

Truth is the Mufster's political career is in its waning days, a lame duck. A review of his time as mayor clearly proves he is incapable of serving as Da Gov. The Nei doesn't need him, clearly can't afford him and can't maintain him. Same goes for Neil but that is another story. Raise property taxes? No way Mufster, start cutting expenses now. Way too much city government for a city our size. If you can't do this your replacement will. Bottom line - for your final days either do your job or confirm what we already know, you just can't cut it. Our town, our Mayor, what a line of shibai that has proven to be. Ahhh, just another day in the Nei.

The only thing I want to see him doing on stage is sweeping up after the performance is over, and everyone has gone home.

Richard Borreca here demonstrates the reason he is respected and political hacks like mufi are growing more hated, despised and detested.

mufi knows every other person he sees on the street hates him and his rail road job on us, and that number is growing.

Exposed as a make work project for the politically connected, mufis only "pretend friends" are the empty souled Union bosses and their working stiffs, architect letter writers, p.r. mouthpieces, and engineers designing the fleecing of our limited, and now dwindling city treasury.

This project could not come at a worse time.

Borreca calls it straight and true and mufis minions and yes men are given the command from the Fuhrer to respond, masquerading here as members of the general public.

Good Job, Borreca. Kick mufi and his gangs butt.

Only a moroon like you still tries to blame that on on Hannemann. The sewer infrastructure was neglected for years before he ever got there, an old pipe broke and it was either pump into the Ala Wai or back through the hotels and then to the Ala Wai via the streets. What would you have done, Genious?

What about the sewer fix the EPA is demanding and his dishonor said, at a news conference, the EPA does not know what they are talking about.

His mouth will ultimately cost us billions more.

Anybody ever check the percentage of water bills going to sewer, actually to build new sewer for his developer friend's projects.

Do you mean genius?

His recent projects:

$10,000,000 for building in Chinatown to house recently arrived from mainland delerects.

$8,000,000 park in Waipio or thereabouts.

$3,500,000 in train publicity including 500,000 to campaign worker for train newsletter. Ever talk to anybody who wants this monstrosity.

Redo parking lot at Maili beach, one month so far, about 20 workers.

Clear Nanakuli beach parks of homeless, still waiting for that, local residents cannot use beaches because of filth. He will clear small area then go on tv saying "Look what I have done."

Spend $100,000 on a trip to mainland for mayor's meeting. This was not approved, he went out and got a loan which taxpayers must pay back.

Held a several day weekend celebration of Chicago being awarded the Olympics.

Is clever enough to begin his train project in the middle of area owned by his developer friends, By the time homeowners/businesses being displaced realize what he has done to them it will be too late to stop it.

NOoo, he WON'T get elected due to his ARROGANCE and LIES!! He thought by LYING and getting his rail through people would still vote for him for gov. WRONG!! People are pissed and well they should be considering, should muli's rail not generate enough $, it will come from the tax payers. He DID NOT GIVE US A CHOICE, on whether we wanted his stupid rail. AND he had the AUDACITY to FORCE us to pay for it by ADDING his 1/2% on the gas you buy. He can dream on if he thinks he will get elected into a higher office.

I'm a retired city employee who worked under the administrations of Fasi, Anderson, Harris and Hannemann.
Mufi has been the worst mayor of them all. He has increased taxes during his five years of office more than any of the others: think excise tax; car registration fees; sewer fees; property tax. His problem is that he is always running for the next office. If a U.S. Senate seat becomes available in the immediate future, he will not run for Governor. I know many city employees who can't wait for him to leave city hall.
