That's right, Paul! God created the world in 7 days. Look at the un-Godly disaster the Republicans have created in 7 years.

Thank you, Paul Smith, for stating what many citizens of Honolulu think. Mufi is trying to push "his" train without the public's view in a manner you describe in order to stifle opposition and lead others to believe it is a foregone conclusion. It is a disrespectful and insulting treatment of the voters that made the mistake of putting Mufi into office. Let us put Mufi's cash-cow, train for his political supporters benefit, to a vote. We need 45,000 signatures to put this on the next ballot. Let's put a stop to this and throw phoney Mufi out of public office.

Just think, if a few council members weren't pulling all this nonsense, and dopes like you weren't falling for it, there would be no need for experts to explain anything at the ridiculous council meetings.

Concerning the line, "Pope could have seen Bush's work in Iraq", I would expand that to a visit to Palestine to "their" lack of work there with God's children. Fortunately Jimmy Carter is there and is providing the leadership for Peace and calling an end to the Israeli illegal Occupation of Palestine, the end to illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine, the end to the obscene wall that the Israeli Government has built in the Holy Land, and the end to the exclusion of Hamas in Peace talks between Israel and Palestine. Thank you very much Jimmy Carter for emulating leadership that is so disparately needed in this country.

Broken record, although you have every right to be a sheep and follow, unquestioning, paid-for, expertise of Mufi's lackeys, does not mean you have a right to impose Mufi's view of his poitical pay-off train on the rest of us. The law is clear. 45,000 signatures and you will get to state your own, individual preference at the polls. Just don't expect every one else to support your unquestioning allegience to phoney King Mufi.

Geez. Carter is the very epitome of naivete that prolongs this kind of conflict. He gives "hope" to the Palestinians to fight on.

Mufi doesn't want a public referendum on the rail because it will probably lose. The entire windward side and East honolulu will probably not support it. Only half of the remaining part of the island will. And its only real purpose is to get money into the hands of Mufi, his friends, the unions and the other politicians who support it. Elisa Yadao. the talking head is already making $425,000 on the project and it has just started.

On second thought, I have changed my mind. Instead of trying to stop this white elephant, Can someone please tell me how I can get in on this scam? I could use a few hundred thousand dollars too.

Draft registration: Simple solution: Fail to register at 18 as required, the licence to drive automatically suspended; ineligible for student loans; no admittance to post high school educational institutions; ineligible for ANY social benefits; ineligible at any juristictional level for employment by any government agency or elected or appointed representative.

Thomas Stuart is going to go bonkers the next four years once Obama gets elected!

I got a better idea than him. Lets make service in the military mandatory for all 18 year olds (two year commitmant). I bet we would become real hesitant to launch pre-emptve wars based on lies!

I agree. Real leaders like Jimmy Carter can make a difference. Just think if only Mother Theresa were alive, we wouldn't be in such a mess.

Sorry, I posted this on the wrong forum, here is where I meant it to be....

Speaking as a draftee from 1969 - 1971 and as a supporter of the idea that peace is better than war, no one should ever be sent overseas to fight a war, but if you support the war, whether you are 16 or 60, by all means, you should be given an opportunity to go over there and fight it.

Thomas Stuart is confused. There is no draft. I wonder if Mr. Stuart turned 18 in '73? Would explain a few things. Part of the reason there haven't been any legal pursuits related to Selective Sevice might be the following - "As one of the elements of the offense, the government must prove that a violation of the Military Selective Service Act was knowing and willful. This is almost impossible unless the prospective defendant has publicly stated that he knew he was required to register or report for induction, or unless he has been visited by the FBI, personally served with notice to register or report for induction, and given another chance to comply. The last prosecution for non-registration was in January 1986, after which many believed the government declined to continue prosecutions when it became apparent that the trials were themselves causing a decline in registration."

I agree with Steve. The U.S. presently does not have a draft and it would take an act of Congress to reinstate it. So, there is a little price to pay by registering. I have lived most of my life working for the U.S. Government overseas. I am proud to be an American citizen, but it is my belief that you cannot truly appreciate the freedom that America affords you until you have lived outside the U.S. and are subject to another country's laws. And yes, I too, registered for the draft and subsequently served in the military.

We are at war! Quotes Thomas Stuart. I don't think so. It was an invasion into Iraq on false pretense. The reason so many service personnel are dying
is because of the mess in Iraq not Afgahanistan. To publish the names of young people who choose not to support this Bush regime is Husseinism.

HEY by the way thanks for waiting till we found out that were going into a possible recession and lowering our refund. Which makes no sense because MUFI still wants to spend billions on transit. Let me see lower tax refund and pay billions to build the rail. If you put that billions to work on our schools....i could only imagine the outcome. So EASY to spend billions on rail and hard to spend millions on OUR schools. WHERE IS YOUR PRIORITY...
