Was Matson, Sealand, and Young brothers required to do an EIS? Wonder how the quoqi(sp?) frogs invaded Hilo, then spread throughout the islands? Perhaps, Young brothers has a bigger impact with invasive species than you think. Too bad the bleading heart transplant environmentalists blocked the erradication of the frogs in Hilo in the early days... imagine if they didn't interfere with these frogs safety. Again, EIS and its appropriate, across the board usage. Then again, locals need to speak up, too. Quietly...effectively...(sound familiar if you were around back then...) local style...

Looks like our lolo governor is going to cost taxpayers millions of dollars in wasted expense and future litigation by SuperFerry. If she had done it right from the start, we would have an alternative to air travel. Now we are stuck with a million dollar boondogle.

Our lolo governor has stuck us with a multi million dollar boondogle and now our lolo mayor is going to add to the carnage with his billion dollar choo choo.

I live in southern China and there must be literally hundreds of ferries zipping back and forth between Macau, Hong Kong and cities in Guangdong Province. These are only an option in addition to trains, planes and automobiles.

Is there any wonder why easy, affordable and fast transportation infrastructure helps a place grow economically??

I'm not saying Hawaii should emulate that (HI can't) but shooting themselves in the foot in these trying times is yet another reason why Hawaii will always only be "a nice place to visit" with nothing much else going on for it.

Oh yeah...you get the Pro Bowl back. Yippee...

Hawaii is going down the drain, pushed there by local ultranationalists, radical environmentalists and the extremist Supreme Court of Hawaii. Hawaiian hotels are near empty, tourists swim right where homeless relieve themselves, parks are taken over by vagrants, entire tourism-related industries are pushed into bankruptcy. Remeber ATA? Remember Aloha Airlines? Remember Superferry?.....

Superferry is bad for environment but planes flying from island to island and all the cruise ships making stops are good for the environment????? Tell the truth, you just want to support your precious airline. You don't care about the people but you care about a bunch of fish. Why don't you stop the Japanese to dig up water from the bottom of the ocean to help the environment instead?

Don't you think you are living in a communist state already? How much of your rights have you lost? Can you do anything anymore without the state government telling you what to do? You are already living in communism in Hawaii.

Too bad Sierra Club wasn't around 100 years ago. They might have been able to prevent the advent of the automobile and the airplane. Any transportation system that increases productivity has a lower environmental impact than less-efficient systems. Sierra Club knows this, which leads to a suspicion that their motives aren't entirely environmental.

More damage to the environment was done by the Navy ship stuck on a reef than the Ferry could ever have accomplished. Maybe the Navy needs to cease operations in the State?

And how about dumping sewage straight into the ocean? Maybe the City & County should cease operations?

What of the bums and leeches on our sunny beaches (note rhymes)? More poo and needles and filth but I guess the State won't cease operations either?

Loss of 200 jobs and multi-millions in economic value as the State moves from recession to depression. Demanding a ferry service cease operations over a concrete dock. On an island. Unbelievable.

It would be interesting to know where the money is coming from to fight the Super Ferry. I smell a big fat rat here.
In the last 15 months, there has been no impact against the environment from the SF, but I bet there has been a few fishing nets lost in the water, tankers and haulers that have done some damage, just to mention a few.
This is an action by a very selfish group that is taking jobs from hard working people. It is totally self serving.
They have proved nothing to me, that this is necessary. Nothing but lip service.
I will never support any of them.
In the last year alone, the SF has given $165,000 in free rides to over 100 needy groups and this is the thanks they get.
They are taking away jobs and less expensive shipping for many businesses including Love's bakery. Nana's and Tutu's were able to travel in comfort to visit the family.
We took the boat last May and never had a more enjoyable trip. They were very conscious of the land and water and the trip was amazing.
The Sierra Club and their backers should be ashamed of themselves. Saving Hawaii's environment, my okole. You guys are a real piece of cake.
Shame on you.

Unbelievable. Here we go again.

Just we need, Hawaii...another business gone (or very close to it), which means more people out of work.

Not to mention the anti-business image that the whole world gets to see. Trying to set the bar higher and go for a 20% statewide unemployment rate?

Stupid.

This could only happen in the Un-Democratic People's Republic Of The Fourth-World Banana Republic Of Hawaii.

(And, no, I did not mean "Third World"...after this fiasco, comparing Hawaii to a Third World nation would give ALL Third World nations a bad name.)

I hope that the environmentalistas can sleep at night. The effects of all of this will be more far-reaching than people realize.

Now is the time for ferry supporters FROM ALL ISLANDS to speak out!

Now shut down those power plants from polluting the environment to produce electricity, and ban the cars and make everybody get wherever they can by walking or bicycling.

No need to waste the gasoline keeping human beings alive and improving conveniences. If they want to come to Oahu, there are surfboards and canoes.

Wow, thanks Maui Tomorrow, Kahului Harbor Coalition, and Sierra Club for caring so much about the environment that you don't give a mongooses okole about the locals who have families to support. Now you can enjoy your fancy water toys in our pristine waters while local families scrounge for jobs.

Get off your high horses and walk a mile in the shoes of struggling 'ohanas. See what it's like to be a paycheck short of a house payment, ten dollars shy for an asthma prescription or too straped to get new tires on your beat up clunker (ooops, bad example. You environmentalists think cars are baaaaddd. Locals should walk.)

You environmentalists sure are heroes. Thanks for "saving the ocean" and destroying local families.

Well, you've cut off your nose to spite your face. Economic downturn, so you cut more jobs, cut competition, and cut access to friends and relatives. Brilliant. Tree huggers and sovereignty nuts want to take you back to the good old days when Kamehameha was chasing his detractors off cliffs. There is progress for you.

I know it usually takes forever to eternity for the HI Supreme Court to rule on ANYTHING, so why did they have to make this decision NOW?

During one of the worst recessions (depressions) in Hawaii history!!!!!!

Couldn't those in the High Court have MAYBE, JUST MAYBE waited a bit for the economy to turn around before coming out with this devastating ruling?

Talk about horrible timing.
