This is yet another example of the perplexing leadership of the Lingle Administration! Too many of Hawaii's inmates are shipped to the mainland where Hawaii's taxpayers are employing workers living in another state. Build the prison in Hawaii and use our tax dollars for our state!

How long does the Governor have to put up with silly obstacles placed in front of her by petty legislators? Enough is enough. I would shelve projects too if they continued to fight over nothing. Grow up Tsutsui.

The multi-million dollar question is why did she just close a prison on the big island - to save a couple million, yet push for a new prison on Maui (where she will go back to) at a cost of hundreds of millions of bucks just to build - many years down the line - when we had one up and running succesfully for over 50 years. The inmates don't need a new house anyway - the shack in the woods was just fine! AND WAY CHEAPER

Mothers and tita girlfriends of inmates want the prisoners kept here so they can keester-smuggle them some loot. The rest of us would send them off on a sinking ship to China.

Lingle is all about petty politics...

See: Kulani Prison closing
Treatment of State Workers
No help for medical marijuana
Turn back on equal rights for all
ETC, ETC, ETC..........

And while it just can't happen soon enough, thank God her useless, vindictive, callous, Palin supporitoing, do-nothing term in office is nearing an end.

In an election year and the world of politics, I think she had little choice. Once again, politics screws the people who need help the most!

As I was reading this editorial, what came to mind was Molokai Ranch. Same attitude; my way or the highway. Revenge feels good when you have all the power.

the governor from hell. she is so incompetent that a 5th grader can do better. do you see the latest attempt to confuse the abitration process. now she and her people are claimimng that the amount collected on delinquent tax for 2009 "was incorrectly recorded" by $44 million. similar $800,000 error was reported in the 2008 fiscal year. she is going to hell for tormenting so many hard working people of the state.

Just another example of Mr. Lingles vindictivness against anyone who disagrees with her. This person is in a class by herself, in more ways than one. And for all the others who read the article, size, design and high price are legit questions when you're faced with allocating money to build a new prison. Hey I forgot she closed Kulani, probably to help out the mainland prison business. Nothing like providing emplyment to mainland clients when you're firing local workers. I love this governor. What a bozo.

One final comment and I'm out of here.
Did you hear the latest, the Republican Party is now blaming the teachers union for the 17 furlough days they are now being forced to accept. They claim the teachers action are affecting the education of students. DAHHHH?

Pal you probably read a lot "stuff" but dont understand what you are reading. Just consider, the worst deficit since the last stockmarket crash in the 20's that had Republicans jumping out the windows. Now the "democraps" who are now trying to correct 8 years of Republican stupidity and mismanagement: high unemployment, whole sale cheating in the private sector to max out profits, failure to look out after the little guys and two wars based on lying and manipulating information to the public and a Republican Congress that went along without a peep. Lord save me from these fools.

Speaking of fifth graders, I would hope most of them can spell and punctuate better than you can. Maybe you shouldn't use big kid words like "arbitration" and "claiming" if you can't spell them.
