If Hawaii wants us tourists to continue to come to Hawaii, why do they keep adding taxes to our trips?

I think a little quid pro quo is needed here.

Let the car rental companies get their extra fee but, in return, require that all rental cars be able to achieve 35 mpg. Any rental that cannot meet that threshold has to pay a fee to the State (cannot pass through to client) of $5.00/day.

In fact, let's give rental companies an incentive to switch fleets over to Smart cars, hybrids and ultra high mileage vehicles.

There ya go!

Way to go. Add another obstacle to travel in Hawaii. Maybe we should add another law so voters can decide everytime the legislature passes a tax increase like this without our approval, we vote on whether to pass on the cost to members of the legislature that voted for it. Enough already!!!!6469

Well I have decided to help the economy of Hawaii.
I usually but nothing in this racist state but feel
the time has come to stand up and be counted.
Tomorrow I will purchase a " Breakfast Jack '
from Jack in the Box .
will others do the same?

HONOLULU (KHNL)-- It features anything and everything made in the islands. The 13th annual Made in Hawaii festival is this weekend and offers hundreds of exhibits, featuring everything from plants to crafts to food

A car rental facility does not make or break going to a destination. However, I think we will now save a lot of money by not renting a car for the three weeks we are in Hawaii next year. Will just load up on food for the condo and stay in one place!!!!

Considering the horrid state of disrepair of our roads, visitors, if they come, they will better off just taking the taxi to the hotel, stay off the roads and go to the beaches.
Oh, I forgot, there are no many good beaches left either!

"at no cost to the state..."

Anyone smell another Federal boondoggle? Where's the rest of the story, I mean, money. The last "no cost to the state" for the airport cost $74,000,000 in consulting fees to Oshiro.

What a JOKE, 2 major Airlines that once serviced the Hawaiian Islands are no longer in business resulting in thousands loosing their jobs and the ones who remain raise their airfares to fly to and from Hawaii, and now enter the Greedy Car Rental Companies not wanting to miss out on some fast cash jump in on the act to rob car renters. By the way does anyone know if you rent from one of the off airport companies will you still be charged this fee?.

Thats a great idea because every time I request a small gas friendly car when we go to Hawaii I end up getting a gas guzzler because they claim their out of small cars and they feel they are doing me a favor because they have upgraded me at no extra charge to a Land Yacht with a big V-8.

Will the extra dollar a day do anything to the lack of "aloha" in the workers at the car rental counter?

Give the forum a break. You are on here 24 hours a day and you

DONT EVEN LIVE HERE!

Think about it, if you actually DID SOMETHING with all this free time, you might have enough money to even come back to Hawaii for a week. So yes, please get a video and "jag off" or buy a girlfriend or something. You add nothing with your back-n-forth posts with your fantasy girl Alice.

It will probably help them be less grumpy. Wouldn't you be too if you had to sit in those hot canopies under the sun in a melting lot?

We visit about once a year and rent cars anywhere from 7 to 14 days. I have no problem with the surcharge if indeed it is spent on upgrading the rent car facilities. However, I am leery of government keeping its promises in these situations.

Two tourists came in last night...they had used a tour company for transportation to Pearl Harbor...$12. Reasonable.

Called them back for a trip to the Water Park.$120 EACH.

$240 for two people to go to the water park????? you could rent 5 cars for that!!

THAT'S WHAT I MEAN ABOUT GOUGING.

Our visitors are not fools.
