A picture really does tell a thousand words. I didn't really understand why an elevated rail would work in Honolulu until I saw the photo of the Phoenix rail in last Sunday's paper. Full Story

Mr. Burns,

Prove Glenn Beck wrong, where is your proof.
Seems like you are a little afraid of him.
Obviously you did not read the HC Bill completely, or you would have found what 200 million Americans are concerned about.
We all agree changes need to be made,
but when the gov't is taking over companies, trying to pass a HC bill without the public being able to read it, something tells us they are being very deceptive.
It makes no difference who is in office, we have questions and we deserve answers. If you have no questions, but prefer to follow blindly, they you will be sorely disappointed in your gov't.
The lies and broken promises that have come out of the WH are of great concern to Americans from both sides of the aisle.
This WH is bringing in 30 + czars that have completely different beliefs from what this country was founded on. They are radicals and they need to be watched.
If you are happy listening to a biased MSM and reading worthless papers that is your right. We prefer to listen to those that do their homework and so far, he and others have been right on the mark. I take my information from several sources as should you.

Stephen Burns , you live in dreamworld if you think the government is going to solve the medical needs of those turned down by the insurance company. Say you need an operation, The Doctor will tell you under the government plan, you need to get approval for payment before I can operate. This request will be one of many that goes to a government approval board. Hope you get an answer in one year. The bureacy in government is real. Then the government comes back and say NO.
What is your recourse?? Nothing has changed. YOu are dopy if you think the government health plan is any better. Hope you can find a doctor that accepts the government plan. Presently over 38% of Medicare patients cant find doctors that will accept medicare. I wonder why??

M. Rice - can you site anything that Glenn Beck has said that is not factual? Source please.
He is in entertainer, not a newsperson. He fact checks and delivers the information in a way that we can all understand, at the same time, in such a way as to get our attention. Alarmist, maybe. Eye opening, certainly.
Do you watch Glenn Beck? If not, give him a try and take notes, then go look up the facts. You'd be surprised that they match.

Hey Glen Beck lovers-isnt he the dude that claims that the US Constitution "demands/requires" slavery?? Wow, perhaps this round the theives and undesireables should get that label? And yea, I mean those that were exiled out of Europe-you know, the guys who stole Native American lands. Only their offsprings alive? Well, I'm sure that they would gladly voulnteer-after all their forefathers adamently believed in having slaves. Perhaps Glen Beck's claims should qualify him to be the first! C'mon-idiot!!!

All you have to do is watch that simp and the lies will come tumbling out of his mouth like rain from the sky. His biggest b.s.- "President Obama was not born in the United States". If that isn't a like I don't know what one is. I don't know the exact date that he said that as he has repeated it so many times I have lost count. And the people(including you) who believe a single word of his make you far more stupid than he is.

Your side has Olberman, Maddow and Schultz. Why can't we have our Beck? He's not as dangerous as the hate filled rants spewed by those three are.
Unlike the left, we know which portion of his commentary is serious and which part is comedy. We don't accept all of it as the absolute truth which is why we understand what is going on in the country. Unlike your side, we don't walk lock-step chanting DNC talking points that distort the truth.
And that's the way it should be in a free society. I have my opinion and you have yours. Maybe a combination of the two is the answer.

If glenn Beck is an "entertainer", then why is he on Fox "NEWS". Why isn't it called FoxEntertainment? Perhaps because it ins't entertaining in the slightest? And neither is that mentally deficient loudmouth Beck. About the only two worse than he is are O'Reilly and Limbaugh.

You need some help, Concerned Senior Citizen, or maybe just a couple of bottles of Valium might be your ticket. I have never read such b.s. from anyone(except maybe willie or thoms1). You have the audacity to say he's not as "dangerous" as Maddow, Olberman, and Schultz?
Fools like Beck are 10 times more dangerous than those three combined. You NEVER know when he's telling the truth or joking. He's a non- stop liar and rambler. If you want to worship him, more power to you.

Alan Cummings - the Topix censor prohibits me from saying exactly what I would like to say.
So I'll just say this - your vile name-calling rants just further proves my point. Those of you on the left side just can't tolerate opposition to your already tried and failed ideology.
When you can't rationally argue the point, you degrade yourselves by name-calling and using invectives in an attempt to shut the other person up.
It doesn't work as well as it did.
Get over it and accept that there are those of us who think your un-democratic ideas and policies are bogus and are not conducive to a Republic.
If you think Beck is dangerous, don't watch his show. Simple as On and Off.

Maybe you NEVER know when he is telling the truth or joking, but those rational thinking folks on this side can, and do, know the difference.
We are not writing songs, chants and painting posters idolizing Beck like the Obamabots are doing for your so-called messiah. You're the one needs help in understanding what is being done to this country.

I remember reading this last evening, it's a posting you wrote in answer to an earlier one. I do not know, nor care, which countries you have dual citizenship in, but If you need a loan to get back 'home' to the other one let me know, maybe I can help. I'd be glad to see your type of political thinking as far away from these shores as possible.
Alan Cummings says: "BRILLIANT LETTER!!! I too have dual citizenship and the instant that I can scrounge enough cash together to vacate, it's Au Revoir for good. The healthcare system in this country is worse than lousy and the ONLY way it will get repaired is when the congressmen bid their lobbyist pimps goodbye. I say let morons like "what" and his brainless compatriots sink in their Republican toilet. The problem with that is that half the country will be taken down the drain with them."

Look at M. Rice having a hissy fit over Glenn Beck. We all see and hear the "know-nothing" pundits on t.v. and radio. Some we will agree with, some we won't. Just cruise. Mr. Beck is actually to my left. I tolerate his leanings and verse as entertainment. Rush Limbaugh is another windbag that sometimes makes some sense..however leftist I may view him. You gotta look at things as they are. None of these people really hate or despise each other. they are there only to excite the masses and steer public opinion. There is no need to take them serious. Once you or anybody else study out the real issues and causes of our nation's decline you will understand. Relax and aloha!

FOX NEWS does not serve any positive influence. I like to watch BBC at 6PM on PBS Hawaii for an example of quality reporting. Democracy Now is a positive broadcast on Ch. 54 from 7-8AM M-F. and at 10PM Ch. 56. Local news is pathetic, the stations ignore the real news.

Thank goodness we do have Fox News to be able to see what is happening in this country. We sure can't get it from the left.
They must be doing something right, since their ratings are through the roof and they are trampling the other networks.
Mr. Cummings never did supply all the lies he accused Glenn Beck of saying. He can back up everything he has said, Can you? I didn't think so.
If you don't like his program turn it off, we won't miss you. But, you secretly watch it to get to the truth.
He has uncovered the lies this adminstration has promised us and he has filled us in of the radical czars taking over our country, tearing it apart from the inside. We would never be able to know this without Fox News and that's what po's ou off. We are no longer in the dark about this country being destroyed.
You call us vile, but you didn't say a word when the left brought in race and started screaming whites were carrying guns to Town Hall meetings, only to find out, the man they filmed was a black man. Talk about double standards.
It doesn't seem to bother you that the gov't is trying to ram yet another HC bill through again, without anyone having access to read it. That speaks volumns with another lie they told about being open and up front with the American people.
If you are happy with all the bad things happening and all the deceit, fine, just leave us alone with our opinions.

"Clare Connors

"We live on an island, people," said Councilmember Ikaika Anderson during Tuesday's hearing on illegal vacation rentals. He is right. However, he is wrong about what that means. Because we live on an island, respect for our laws is a necessity. The Council, however, has rewarded, not punished, those who flagrantly violate the law. In doing so, it has encouraged, not reduced, illegal behavior.

The Council began down this path 20 years ago when it responded to violations of residential zoning laws by caving in to violators. By failing to enforce its laws, the Council created the situation that troubles our community today. If residents complain, there is no government enforcement. If they sue, there is no enforceable judicial remedy. If we testify before our lawmakers, our words fall on deaf ears.

By failing to enforce the law, the government has left the community vulnerable. We may live on an island. However, we may no longer live in a community where the law matters."

by Clare Connors
Kailua

The City Councilmembers tried the "B and B's" in residential zones and it is not working, so do the right thing and stop it all if a compromise cannot be reached before the whole island is one big resort stop for tourist.

Councilmember Tam is right when he said the zoning must be changed. If the majority of the people don't want it then so be it.
