i agree that parents should take more control of their kids. they should be able to whip the crap out of them when they get out of hand without fear of repercussion from people who should really mind their own business.

as for prayers in school? the parents can make them do that at home, too. why do they need to go to school to pray?

Why not? I'm not talking about organzied prayer, but to forbid it all together is taking things too far.

if we allow kids to pray in school, then we should let the muslim kids take a break to lay their mats out and pray. we should let the buddhist kids take some time out to meditate and contemplate. we should let the atheist kids have some free time in the science lab.

i'm all for it!

Quite the claim to fame. I'm sure his parents are very proud.

Bad parenting really is responsbile for much of the juvenile crime out here. Lazy parenting. The parents are sometimes worse than the kids.

I am a friend of Officer Jamie Becraft and served with him on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Maui. I know him to be a great guy, a family man and one who cares a lot about kids. In his life as a cop, he knows all too well that not all kids are like you and I were. Some are violent and hate authority which is often fostered in the home with bad and sometimes criminal parents. Destroying personal property and then telling a known officer to F**k himself fits the bill and they deserved everything that he was able to give them. I'm sure the courts will ignore the racist part of the incident because it travels in the wrong direction. But I truly hope all of his assailants are sent away for a very long time. When an officer takes an oath to serve and protect our community, that oath does not disappear when the uniform comes off. For what these guys get paid, I would never risk my life. But Jamie did and the entire community, haole and local alike, should support him and send a message to these criminals. It gives our island such a bad image when we don't.

Im glad to hear you were beaten and even happier to hear you left Hawaii. You are not welcome here.

I see not much has changed in Hawaii. I was mobbed by 20+ Somoans in highschool because I'm Haole. What did the cops do? NOTHING. Imagine if that happeded on the mainland and the skin colors were reversed.
Racism alive and well in the Aloha State.
