Josh i applaud the positive post.Thats great he is trying to get business in,but did you ask him about why he is spending all this money which our town does not have at this time?He campaigned againist it and his running mates from last election have abandoned him because of his votes to spend money we dont have.I appreciate your post even if we disagree.clinton

The problem was, the auto industry was and still is in distress. To put in big stores there they have do a lot of water piping because before it was just an auto dealer. I have personally talked to terry and he has told me for 147th and Cicero that they have restraunt lined up for around the big box store (culvers, Chili's, Buffalo Wild Wings) the sign says retail space available. Terry has a plan for that area, the puzzle pieces just need to come together. If you look at the cvs in oak forest. They had strip malls that were supposed to go around it. But they couldn't get them in. The bank even closed over there. He may not be able to get all the businesses in at once because he has to wait for them to come. Terry told me last year there was a nix box store but he didn't want to reveal to much. There is a lot of work to do to the area so it's going to take work. Midlothian has also followed country club hills business plan. A few years ago they began the 20year economic development plan. Country club hills did the same thing and look now. It may not be the safest area but the plan worked. I've lived here my whole life, he is making Midlothian look better which I like because he turned an empty green field and made it look great! And it was all volunteer work. Terry could have kept Midlothian with all of the auto dealerships, and maybe we would have recovered sooner, but the next recession it would have been the same thing if not worse. Terry has set us up better long term. But it will be like a baseball team that needs to rebuild, and we have to rebuild from the ground up! So it's going to take time!
You are either a plant sent here by Terry or you're just an ignorant fool. The dealerships were all long gone before Terry won the mayor election. All Terry has is a big mouth. Nothing more. When Terry was elected the town was about 3 or 4 million dollars in debt. Now it's almost 20 million in debt. What improvements he has made he made with our money. Any fool could do that, even you. He has done nothing to make the town more desirable to businesses. Four more years with him in charge will be a disaster.

Josh you have the ability to have some lengthly posts that really don't say anythin

Terry has plans but doesn't want to say much.. A lot if water piping to be done. Talk about the Dodge dealership prospects of years ago. Midlo following CCH economic plan. Maybe they would like to...but don't say they ''are" because so far they haven't done anything.

I hope you enjoyed your lunch in that pos gazebo while looking at a bunch of empty stores.

If you want to look at a real gazebo go over to oakforest and look at the one on Central.

Just heard Sharon is running for mayor (village president) Before you think she is the answer to whatever problems you think we have, ask her where the cash money went over her years as treasurer for softball. Interesing discrepancies. Having worked with her over the years, I would not trust her. It often looks like she is doing alot, when in reality others were handling things while she took the credit. Just be careful if you vote for her - she puts on a good show.
I too worked with Sharon on a few projects she's all this poster said and more, my problem was the alcohol on her breath every time we worked together And he lawyer appeared to be so busy but not really oing nothing .I found her to be really not that bright please don't elect this Oman he's all talk and a little shady.

Sad. Seems like a lot of talk about her drinking and really not rising above the crowd by people who supposedly worked with her. Truth be told I'd vote for Snoopy before I'd vote for Terry again. Hoprfully she would lean on some of the more competent trustees. Still wish for another choice. I'd rather Karen give it a go.

Terry has been in office for over twenty years. He is part of the problem...not the solution!

Its not just the economics. The hiring of a full-time. real estate attorney and assistant was just flat out wrong. Wrong for the residents. On top of that I have seen him act like a whistle blowing arrogant prick.

There are problems in every small suburban city, their debt is rising and until the recession is over their is no a single person who can answer the problems we have. Oh and I'm here to discuss not be inconsiderate and talk about others intelligence. I'm not childish, so if we could grow up here that would be great

If the previous administrations (that Terry was a part of) would have diversified Midlothain's commercial tax base, the economic downturn would not have been as painful!!!!!

Nono,

What exactly about what Taser said is NOT true? It's totally accurate and could be said about many towns. We shouldn't rely on one source/stream of income, and that's essentially what the administration did for years. I don't think Taser is solely blaming Terry, but he is pointing out that Terry was a part of the administration that made the tactical error of relying on the car dealerships too much.

How was the administration supposed to diversify the commercial tax base? Are you suggesting that they refused to allow other businesses besides auto sales to enter the town?

I'm not suggesting anything. I am outright saying that past administrations refused certain businesses. I'm also saying that when money was good, and this town could have afforded a slight property tax increase or water infrastructure increase it didn't happen, but now that everyone is barely making ends meet, losing their homes and many are out of work, NOW they want to work on infrastructure.

Well hey, I don't mind paying my share because we need better water mains and a water tower and money from property taxes, but it would have been better for the village overall if they'd diversified years ago.

Again though, this is true of more than just Midlo.

There are all kinds of different businesses here and while it is true the car dealerships did bring in a good amount of money there are many different kinds of retail stores, gas stations, restaurants, bars and liqueur stores, and many other types of businesses. I am not sure I understand what you are talking about either.

I am sort of confused.I watch this board about my old hometown. Many complain about the lack of business places. Then you have those posters that complain about that little Diner in town. I stopped by the place just to see what was wrong with the place. It wasn't bad. The food wasn't like downtown Chicago but it was good. Here you have a owner struggling to make ends meet and it looks as if several want another empty store front.
The attacking of the owner isn't justified by any means. If anyone has a complaint, show your face and complain to the owner. Petty messages on this board might spoil things for a future business that may want to come to town.

Kildare,

I think complaining about a restaurant's quality of food and service doesn't also negate your right to complain we need other businesses in town. They are not mutually exclusive. I also think your post because of that is misplaced in this topic.

As for The Diner or Lisa's Diner or whatever they're calling it now, I was only there for food once while under the old ownership. It was awful food, running pancakes and tasteless. I actually did tell the owner (though I didn't realize it at the time it was the owner) about it, but I don't know how it is under Lisa's tenure.

Again though, someone can have an opinion on a business in town's quality and still complain we need other businesses. I don't think the majority of complainers are calling for her to close or anything either.

I don't think my topic was misplaced. If a customer as disatisfied with the service or food. Talk to the owner or manager. One should not bring it to this board. Its aparent some wish to destroy the place as I read some of the postings about the place. I included my comments on this thread as many were posting about attracting new business.
Destroying a operating one doesn't make sense. My interest in the town, is the fact I do own some property there. I would like to see the town improve as much as you would. With improvement, property values go up and I am very fond of that green stuff.
