It is true AND we get automatic Cost of Living Increases AND we are worth every penny of it. It is not easy doing what we do. It requires special talents. Like winning elections.

Running independent in this town is extremely difficult because the mayor's party has all the political hacks helping with the grunt work and buying the senior votes with a bus ride and a Christmas party. If anyone ran independent with some fresh ideas, they would be overpowered and outvoted on the board as it stands right now since the VAP hold a majority. Then this poor independent would be painted as ineffective by the VAP in their next election and the sheep in this village will once again vote VAP.What we need is a slate of
intelligent, civic -minded people to run together and try to educate the masses on what they can do if they can be a party to challenge the VAP. They would need a real, practical and doable platform that can help this village and not just the individulas in power.
But who wants to go through the BS?

Very well stated. And true! It is a lot of BS because the VAP does not seem to want to run on issues, only on the politics of personality and mudslinging. Hopefully there are a few of these intelligent, civic-minded citizens planning now for the next election cycle. It would be a breath of fresh air to have a slate of independent candidates demand a public debate from the VAP.
Just because we're a small village doesn't mean we have to accept mediocrity and slimy politics.

Schleyer is the lesser of 2 evils. Sally has opinions that need to be voiced at open village meetings. Instead of slamming incumbents(who, by the way deserve it), let's post about changes we would like to see in our village and let the candidates tell us what their thoughts are.
I would love to see a mature campaign season free of childish name calling and yard sign shenanigans.

Village Board meetings are not campaign events. The incumbent might do things that way but showing up at Village Board meetings to make political statements is not in the best interest of the Village. Village Board Meetings are for conducting business. Every month there is a new scandal in Oak Lawn after some shouting match starts and that isn't going very well for them.

What the Village Action Party Trustees have done warrants thier removal from office. They voted to give Balderman and Lind pensions beyond our wildest imagination. This Barker lady has never seen a tax she hasn't voted to raise.

We should vote for every Independent Candidate on the April 9th election.

So the Board did give Lind a buyout bonus and last day raise didn't they? The crime here is that HE is their pal, their crony. They knew they wanted him on the Board with them (or probably with you) didn't they? Balderman claims a bad back at 42 but didn't want a disability he wanted a full pension. And the VAP did not challenge him because they WANTED him gone. The VAP agreed to the Balderman and the Lind pension deals. Blah blah blah.
