Metra ground-breaking held for station serving Bellwood, Melros...

As the nation suffers through a recession, the blue-collar western suburbs of Bellwood and Melrose Park are dreaming of a bustling and modern downtown district, spurred on by a new $15 million Metra train ... Full Story

This is an extremely wise investment that will bring an immediate and long-term economic return to the area. In a few years, we're going to see other suburban communities duking it out for new Metra stops.

Carl,

I agree. This is a much-needed improvement to the area and will help bring investment dollars to a town that really does deserve it.

We are investing money into a Metra station although one already exists. All of the economic income that is retail is on the Melrose Park side yet Bellwood voted to fund the Metra station. If you go to the Bellwood website and look at the development plan the only thing Bellwood will be adding is row homes and condos. The parking deck will be on Melrose Park side to accommodate their new movie theatre, condos, and nice proposed retail area. For Melrose Park this is a good thing, for Bellwood it is just pouring money into a Metra Station when we already have one at 105 Fredricks. We need to focus on new schools because in 2006 that is what they said the TIF money and area was going toward. Since 2001 Wilson Elementary has been closed (students are being bused to other schools), Lincoln Primary Elementary has been closed (students are being bused), and Thurgood Marshall Elementary was torn down (it was moved to the old Roosevelt Jr. High which was suppose to be closed when the new Jr High was built because of the poor condition of the building). Melrose Park is gaining income and more retail while Bellwood is just getting a new station even though the current station is just fine. This does not smell right at all.

This is all designed not to help the taxpayers of Belwood or Melrose Park, but to enrich and provide more graft for Bruno, Serpico and their attorney and contractor friends (read political donors.)

The residents are going to get stuck with the bill, the contractors will make their money with public subsidies, the lawyer will charge millions in fees and Bruno will laugh all the way to the bank.

What a country!

Where is the US Attorney Fitzgerald?

What happened to the last project, the Melrose Park Water Project?

Where is the money Mr Scavo?

Where is the money Mr Serpico?

Let's ask Mr Bruno and DelGaldo!

Where is the money?

Officials hope the area will be made of retail and housing..
Of course, Pasquale hopes that the retail portion will be on the Bellwood side so he can suck up the 10.5% sales tax, the highest rate in Illinois shared with Stone Park and East Dundee. Even Chicago's sales tax is lower!

Shop elsewhere! Your dollar is only worth 89.5 cents in Bellwood.

all the retail will be on Melrose Parks side. check out Bellwood's website and look at their proposal of what will be there. once you look at that look at what Melrose Park has already start building.

Young lady..... And, my intentions are to figure out who you are, why you're purposely playing stupid in order to bring up old news and to point out how stupid you sound. And that's the honest truth. So, as you say, you haven't answered my question.. what are your intentions?

I'm sure. First thing you learn how to do is go nuts on melrose forums? And you don't know what google is. Either you're completely stupid, or you're lying. Either way, your questions and actions are for a reason.

I'm old but us old people aren't dumb. I know how to use computers and I have used the google before and used the internet at my kid's house. They just got me the internet at my house. This iPad thingie is different. Do you have one? Stop being rude and I'll stop asking questions if they are bothering you. I apologize.

I believe older people are smart, experienced and have a lot to give. You on the other hand, are irrelevant, annoying and you lie.
