I moved from Kentucky to Juneau back in September. I will tell you what its like. There is beautiful scenery all around and the air is very clean. Its always raining, and chilly out. Its starting to get dark around 5:30pm our time which in KY would be 9:30pm. Being from KY where the groceries are so cheap, it was definately hard for me to adjust. The food here is expensive..a 24 pk of soda runs you about $10.00 depending on where you get it, whereas in KY its about $5 something. If you dont have a vehicle then you better learn the bus systems because the taxi's are outrageous. My husband and I take one to the store and back and its like $40.00 total. The store we go to is just down the road. There is not alot of fast food here either, unless you live around the downtown or douglas area...thats about it if you want to know more...message back..

Well there was definately some sticker shock because things here are alot more expensive than home in KY. They have a small mall here, and walmart, fred meyers, costco and some other places..as far as resteraunts I havent been out to one but ive had dominos delivered and its wonderful..costed about $40.00 and some chinese food and it was really good too.. bout 26 dollars.. I dont know when it starts sticking I just moved here in September.. but its a great place just have a warm coat..like right now its 19 degrees..lol

Been here for 9 years now. I was born in Lexington, but lived in Ohio most of my life. The winters there are colder and there is often more snow there than here. Milk is $4-5. First snow is usually around Halloween, often on Halloween, and begins to really stick 3-4 weeks later. otherwise, it rains alot. Buy Xtra tuffs!

Lol, our weather here isn't so great most of the time, but when its sunny here its worth it! Especialy on those summer nights when its still light out at midnight! An your on the beach with a fire and friends, its pretty cool!
I've lived here for almost 20 yrs now, moved here when I was 18 from Missouri...
Yes everything, and I mean everything is more expensive here, I think we rank right with Hawaii there..
Oh an Xtra tuffs are a great investment!

There are a couple of camp grounds here, I believe there is a small fee to even stay there I think its like $10 a night, but not forsure on that. As far as cheap housing, kinda sad, but nothing is cheap in Juneau! It is a beautiful place!

I think there are jobs here, depends on what you do.. Alot here in Juneau work for the city, state, or healthcare... During our tourist season May-Sept there are many jobs in that industry, but those usualy only last the tourist season..
You can go online to juneauempire.com thats our newspaper here and see whats open.. an also the prices are renting etc.
Do you know anyone here?

No,I dont know anyone there, but a guy I worked with went there and came back with 40 or 50 pictures that really knocked my socks off.I really like to fish and you guys have all the best sea food.
I'm thinking I might be able to get on with parks and recreation as I have expeience and good references. If it worked out for me there I dont see me ever coming back to the lower 48.

Yes it is beautifull here, Ive been a few different places and always end up back here! lol
Parks & Rec is a good one here since there is so much to take care of in that filed!
The only way in or out here is by boat or plane thats the only thing that gets me when you do wana go somewhere.. Its always a plane or ferry ticket too! There is something about Alaska once your here if its really for you, you'll never leave! Good luck! Keep me posted! lol Have a good weekend!
