A smart guy who couldn't take the harassment any longer. Two or three citizens drove away one if the best city managers in the state. Good job Deb, Scott, et al.

Maybe a smart guy that cared about his own family more. I respect his decision. He's did a lot of great things for the city and everyone in it. Respect him and give him a break.

Maybe he realized the city is so screwed up beyond repair it was time to run like hell.

Council-Manager municipal government allows for plausible deniability. City Managers come and go, just like school superintendents. They pay them well because they figure they'll be unemployed for a while after being run out of one town before they get hired by the next.

To walk away from a 6 figure income must mean he`s been job hunting for a while already. I believe he did his best and his next job will probably be a cake walk in comparison. He couldn`t help but be outstanding in comparison to his predecessors. Hopefully , we won`t get a lemon for a replacement.

Give "him" a break? You're kidding right? He obviously had no intention of staying here although he talked like he did when applying for the job. Did great things for the city? Like what? Fire Mike Guinn and hire some fat slob that can't speak to the commission for more that 10 seconds without saying umm 15 times? Also convenient for him to leave right before the budget talks. I'm sure the commission will give him a great going away party and a plaque. Good riddance.

He`s getting a fat raise and leaving a leaky ship on a windswept prairie town burdened by insurmountable debt. Leaving a city stuck in its past for a progressive , thriving city with coffers busting at the seams instead of drowning in red ink. An entirely different population and economy where blight is hard to find , and not in your face. Seriously , who among us would turn down an opportunity to better yourself , professionally , financially , mentally , emotionally and socially ?

What does it matter that he never intended to stay here? Let's look at some of what he did while he was here: Put the city's books into order with proper accounting; Hired a City Financial Director; put our debts into a more manageable form; Took city services back from Veolia; Started working on our streets again.

And convenient to leave right before budget talks? If he decided to take the job what is he going to do. "Oh, sorry, it's budget time so I can't start until September."?

When a city is fortunate enough to find a quality manager the word gets out. He had to be getting regular opportunities. I don't expect that he will be in Mission too long before a larger city gives him a call.

So the next ad we run for a city manager we can include "liars and people with no integrity welcome to apply". You are obviously clueless as to the cost to the city/taxpayer to find his replacement. I wonder if he is going to get a severance package that is based on his current salary with his recent raise? Perfect timing Gerry.

Replacement costs are part of the deal when you get someone of quality and I am fully aware of the costs of search firms as well as the costs of a learning curve. The only way you avoid the risk of someone being snatched by someone larger is by hiring marginal managers to start with. We don't want that, do we? It has nothing to do with lying either. When you start a job it MAY turn into what you want long term, but then again you never know, do you? You approach the job with the thought of doing the best that you can and you see what develops. You welcome the opportunity and if another opportunity presents itself, you evaluate things at that point.

We need to be grateful for what Jerry brought to our city and look for another excellent manager that can give us another 3 or 4 years (or more if this is their ideal opportunity) of quality city management.

As far as a "severance package" goes, your lack of basic knowledge is showing here. You don't get severance packages when you resign. That may have come into play had they fired him. You don't know something so basic yet you target me with your assumption that I don't know about the replacement costs.
