"IOC leaders dropped wrestling from the Olympic program on Tuesday, a surprise decision that removes one of the oldest Olympic sports from the 2020 Games.

The IOC executive board decided to retain modern pentathlon — the event considered most at risk — and remove wrestling instead from its list of 25 "core sports."

"Wrestling, which combines freestyle and Greco-Roman events, goes back to the inaugural modern Olympics in Athens in 1896."

What you have got to be kidding me. The only event I watch at summer olympucs is wrestling and bmx. How in the hell are you going to cutt one of the original founding sports of the first olympics? The committee is soo corrupt and ass backwards I hope they all get fired and launched out of a canon into space where they belong. Wrestlers in middle school to college all look up to olympuc wrestling athletes as they are the top of the food chain in our sport. How can they take away a venue that costs almost nothing to run and offers the most action. There is only 1 sport where a man uses more energy in competition and thats boxing. When you have two forces against eachother trying to achieve same goal the amount if strength and energy burned is at maximum human capability. Wrestling displays this ability and now its gone. I never watching olympics ever again and I used to subscribe to exclusive olympic prigraming just so I could see my event-wrestling. Well thats all over now and the olympic committee can go burn in hell. Another terrible decission by group of non athletes corrupted by drugs and money. Investigate that committee if you want to find the biggest criminals in all of sports. What about downhill mountain biking? You have cross country mtb already and dh skiing. Mtb is same as skiing and bmx mixed. The most exciting event on two wheels bar none. Already have international teams and world cup ciciut thru UCI. What is the problem? Dont even say the corse design because every country in the world(specially olympic caliber venue) has a mountain or hill of at least 1000 vertical feet. This would showcase more of the hosting country thus bringing in tourism. Building a dh race corse is no more difficult that building a cross country race corse. Alot of times the two corses can use the same area and borrow portions for the race. Whatever you guys blow huge chunks forever alwats get it all wrong. Thats the only consistancy is the committee always gets it all wrong.

Well lets see badmitton vs wrestling where do I begin. First off I never even heard badmitton was even an event after watching olympics for 52 years. I guess this was a secret event with no coverage or showcase because there is no athletic skill involved or consiquences, or action worth viewing. Wrestlers only burn 8000 more calories in a 2 minute span, that should tell you something. Table tennis is predictable, monotonous, not exciting, not suitable for tv coverage in any country except china. Water polo is a decent event with normal athleticism and energy burned and potential for minor injury. Curling is winter sport and the most retarded fat ass waste of time unless you live in artic circle. Figure skating is for winter also and draws in tons of dramatic women and drama queen flamingo men. Basically the more risk of personal injury the more strength mental/physical it takes along with athletic talent. If a sport has no risk, minimal energy burned, and no viewing audience such as table tennis and bad mittons, it should not be considered for olympic caliber competition. Wrestling showcases top athletes risking major injury and an exciting fast paced format. Conclusive results, established stars and easy to maintain venue. There are easily 15 sports at summer olympics that can't compete with wrestling on any of these criteria. Not to mention this is a founding sport from original olympics. If they willing to take out wrestling what is next? There is no end to these corrupted committee blundering idiots. This by far is the worst decision they ever made and now I boycotting olympucs for rest of my life. Go to hell olympic committee.

Kangaroo would be one of those who were in favor of playing badmitton and giving everyone a "Participation Certificate".

Demonstrating any real physical prowess is beyond his understanding.

Five Olympic sports that should get the boot before wrestling

"I am still wrestling with the IOC's shocking and inexplicable decision to drop wrestling from the Summer Olympics while preserving the modern pentathlon (which was expected to get the boot). Wrestling is a sport that is popular worldwide. It goes all the way back to the ancient Games and is even mentioned in the book of Genesis (Jacob wrestles all night with the angel of the Lord).

The modern pentathlon, meanwhile, consists of five events that most people could not name even if Regis gave them a lifeline and a smartphone.

Dropping an inexpensive, global sport that has always been in the Olympics is more of an inexcusable travesty than the London mascots.

Here are five obscure/ridiculous sports the IOC should drop instead to get wrestling back on the Olympic roster:

Equestrian:

This is an elite sport that requires the backing of such enormous private wealth that I don't think they can afford it even at "Downton Abbey." Despite the presence of Bruce Springsteen's daughter, this is truly the sport of kings. And queens (Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter Zara Phillips competed in London and won a silver medal). Maybe equestrian might hold some appeal to the 99 percenters if we could bet a $2 trifecta on the medal winners, but, until then, I would much rather see the likes of Rulon Gardner and Alexander Karelin battling it out on the mats.

Synchronized swimming:

Look, I respect synchronized swimmers. I've even tried the sport. It's hard. It's athletic. But I'm sorry, no one can take this sport seriously after this "Saturday Night Live" parody.

http://www.bing.com/videos/search...

It has been 25 years since that spoof aired and it's still the first thing people think of when they hear the words "synchronized swimming."

Trampoline:

I've covered 10 Olympics on four continents. I've written on just about every medal event there is. And this is still easily the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen at the Games, with the possible exception of letting George Michael sing two songs at the 2012 London closing ceremonies. When I saw trampoline for the first time, I kept expecting to see an angry father rush in and yell at the kids to stop jumping up and down or they'll break the mattress. Which, frankly, would have improved this event considerably.

Pingpong:

Yeah, I know it's called table tennis. But anything you play in your parents' basement can hardly be considered a sport more worthy of the Olympics than wrestling.

Modern pentathlon:

The only reason this event exists is that Olympic founder Baron Pierre de Coubertin created it. For the record, the events in the modern pentathlon are laser-pistol shooting, fencing, show-jumping, a 3-kilometer cross country run and a 200-meter swim. In other words, it combines arcade games, very expensive horse riding, a run too short to adequately test endurance and a swimming event that does not include Michael Phelps. Not only does no one want to watch this, but no one wants to compete in it, either. I mean, have you ever met a modern pentathlete? Have you ever gone to a modern pentathlon? Does your high school or college offer modern pentathlon? Of course not. Which is why the modern pentathlon should be dropped and wrestling reinstated.

This whole matter could be solved to everyone's satisfaction by simply replacing the modern pentathlon with the ancient pentathlon that was in the original Olympics B.C.

That's because the ancient pentathlon consisted of the long jump, javelin, discus, a foot race and, yes, wrestling."

Keep pro athletes and the Major sports Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, and Soccer out of Olympic competition. Those millionaire athletes are lavished with fame and fortune constantly, while true Olympians get one shot, every four years, and competing in multiple Olympics is especially an elite accomplishment.

Decision to end Olympic wrestling weighs heavy on high school, college wrestlers

"Tyler Caldwell took a year off from college wrestling so he could train with the U.S. wrestling team, all with the goal of qualifying for the Olympics.

“It was a great experience,” said Caldwell, a four-time high school champion from Goddard.“… I can’t imagine the feeling of getting to wrestle in the Olympics.”

The chance to wrestle in the Olympics is about to disappear for young wrestlers across the world after the International Olympic Committee voted on Tuesday to remove wrestling as a sport in the 2020 Olympic Games. Wrestling was a part of the first modern Olympics in 1896.

Disappointment and disbelief were common feelings among Wichita-area coaches and athletes.

“I just didn’t think that one of the oldest sports in the Olympics, that they would decide to get rid of it,” said Heights graduate Matt Reed, who is wrestling at Oklahoma.

Goddard coach Brett Means added:“I think it’s crazy. One of the oldest Olympic sports of all time. I don’t get it. They’d rather watch people jump rope? I don’t know.”

There is still hope that wrestling could stay because another vote must be taken. If wrestling is removed as a sport, it could petition for inclusion in future Games.

“I certainly hope it’s not final yet,” Derby coach Bill Ross said.“… I think it’s devastating for the wrestling community. All these young men working their tails off through high school and college and wanting to reach the elite level. It’s a demanding sport and it takes a lot of time for training. It’s a pretty bad deal.”

The fear is this decision by the IOC could affect the future of wrestling at all levels.

“I don’t see how it can’t,” Means said.“… The bottom line is, the kids who wrestle their whole career know their best gig is a free or partially-paid college education, then maybe they can go into coaching. But there’s always that one guy out there that gets his dream of being on the Olympics.

“And that dream is gone.”

Glad to see I not the only person shocked by this insane move from the committee of cripple bastard panty waste olympic flaming synchronized fanny bandits. Even espn is calling homo on them. Taking out wrestling is like changing the olympic logo to one ring. It cant happen this sport defines the olympics since the first games. Wrestling is becoming more popular than ever now so this move is soo wrong. Every mix martial arts ufc type does extensive wrestling training now. Everyone knows 85% of a fight is wrestling and the other 15% is me bashing the olympuc committee right in the face. The best part of wrestling is the diversity. Anyone can be a good wrestler from any country, if you got skills. Certain small countries only have a wrestling team so now they cant compete or rep their country. There are soooo many arguments for wrestling to stay and its at the top of its popularity now after last games. We had a gold medalist and that small country, cant remember name, got its first gold. Its always intense competition and only getting better with time. This committee is soo antiquated and full of shit. If they all died tmrw I would have a party laughing and dancing for days. This is an insult and USA should put their foot up the committees ass or boycott. I'm sure russia has to be furious. Yo watch your back in russia next year committee scum of the earth. Horse jumping, laser guns, trabapolines, ping pong. Get thafukouttahere. You guys suck balls. Go eat a horse dick and road apples for desert with your tea and crumpets talley wanker puss bags.

Wrestling is a sport that very few people care about. Only the people who wrestle are into it. No one wants to watch it, as evidenced by meager neilson ratings in the last Olympics. say good bye to your Olympic dreams, wrestlers!

Those Neilson ratings foor Ping Pong are throuh the roof. And its popularity is evidenced by the high numbers of High School and College Ping Pong teams that train and compete across America.

I only watch Badmitton for the Cheerleaders.

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has released its 2010-11 High School Athletics Participation Survey, and the sport of wrestling has grown in all five categories identified.

The statistics for boys and girls wrestling grew during the 2010-11 season concerning the number of athletes participating.

In 2010-11, there were 273,732 boys competing in wrestling, an increase of 842 wrestlers from the previous year (a 0.3 percent increase)

The number of girl wrestlers in high schools grew to 7,351 athletes, an increase of 1,217 wrestlers from the previous year (an impressive 19.8 percent increase). This made girls wrestling the fastest growing sport for high school girls in terms of percentage increase.

The number of girl high school wrestlers has gained every year since 1990, a streak of 22 straight years of growth in participation

When combining the number of boys and girls involved in wrestling in 2010-11, the total number grew to 281,083, which increased 2,059 for the year. This amounts to a 0.7 percent increase in total wrestlers for the year.

There was an increase in the number of high schools which fielded boys wrestling teams. In the 2010-11 season, there were 10,407 boys wrestling teams, an increase of 44 teams, for a percentage gain of 0.4 percent.

There were 1,215 girls wrestling teams this season, an increase of 206 teams, for a percentage gain of 20.4 percent.

For the 22nd consecutive year, the number of student participants in high school athletics increased overall.

There was a total of 7,667,955 participants in 2010-11 in all sports, an increase of 39,578 for the year.

The neilson ratings are antiquated old school methods and not relevant in todays media. Have you ever heard of internet viewing or these things called tablets. You these homos walk around town watching olympics on their queer tablets and this doesnt show up on the old neilson bull shit ratings. On top of that 90% of olmpic coverage is not viewable on television unless you subscribe to payper view olympic coverage. Wrestling was never a prime time premier event, neither is shot putt, or javilin throw, or long jump, or decathalon. Instead they show gymnastics and swimming for the majority audience of housewives and homos. Wrestling is a founding sport like shot put, javilin throw and decathalon. If you getting rid of founding sports better take some out of track and field because nobody watching that crap. The only people interested in wrestling are athletes or fans of fighting sports such as UFC. You might have heard of it but mixed martial arts are massively popular these days, even with that homo neilson. Wrestling is the foundation of a good fighter and mixed martial artists have been going back to train with wrestlers. You 85% if any real fight is wrestling, even at professional UFC level. Are they removing judo, and greco roman and frestyle wrestling. This report not very informative, it just says wrestling removed. There are many diff types of wrestling. Thats like saying swimming is remived. You really taking all events or is this whole article bullshit?

Look. You can write all the long rambling posts you want about wrestling being a growing manly man sport, but the truth is that the Olympic committee chose to nix it in favor of GOLF. There is a reason for that. People who don't wrestle don't care about wrestling. End of story.
