THEY have been wrong about so much.

THEY have brought us nothing but trouble.

THEY have driven up the cost of homes and built us worthless infrastructure.

THEY own rotten rentals that have been used for years and years to rape the soldiers and their families, and NOW THEY are afraid they may have to give BACK a little.

THEY have been WRONG, WRONG, WRONG and have given us $200,000,000.00 in debt.

AGAIN THEY ask YOU to PAY for THEIR mistakes.

VOTE NO ON THE SALES TAX.

Let the "wealthy" pay THEIR way like the rest of us.

I don't post unless I use my name. I am for the sales tax, and I do agree with much of what is in the first post.

Thanks, Scott Johnson

I noticed that you equate businesses with people. The owners of the businesses MAY be responsible, but don't paint their employees with the same brush.
A lot of people object to a 1% increase in sales tax, but they have been willing to pay a similar increase in Manhattan that was used to pay for the 4th Street Renovation.

This aint Manhattan. They are smarter than JC.

They actually GOT something for their investment.

We are being THREATENED into choosing which way we are to pay off the sins of Wonder and Barnes and the crooked azz realtors here in JC.

Either way we go is a no win.

I really think that the people of JC need to keep Real Estate Brokers/Agents and Investment Bankers OFF the commission.

No matter WHAT they promise, EVERY ONE Of THEM has screwed us royally for the past 20 years.

It's going to pass. Many property owners will be in severe trouble if property taxes go up much more, much less 50%. People against the measure probably won't show up in the numbers necessary to stop it. It all sucks.
I still say tax realtors. They are the ones whose greed really exacerbated the situation. A house will sell for what the market determines it should sell for, tax or no tax. And there are other creative ways to raise revenue. Maybe some kind of tax on nrp rebates. Take money from the cvb- in the end, we decide what to spend the money on, not mancinelli. I don't understand why the commissioners are so afraid of a confrontation with the cvb. How about 1% sales tax on everything in one of these phony nrp rebate areas if the business takes the nrp tax breaks.

There are some valid points. Now think about this- What criteria would you use to tax the realtors with? NRP is big issue- just think for every dollar that is 'rebated/refuned' to the holder of the NRP creates a debit to the tax money collected. That money has to be made up somewhere when it comes time to operate city, county or USD 475, so they will have to adjust their mill levy accordingly to make up for the short falls. This point needs to be made to the Commissioners, both city and county- Evaluated each NRP case on an individual basis. Look at the areas where NRP is being used, are they areas that need Neighborhood Revitalization. Examples- Chestnut St., what about Terry Heldstab's garage?

Again, if CVB is using Taxpayers money, then they need to open 'their books up' to the public. Be more transparent and accountable. They should not have any 'secrets'. Ask them to tell you 'how many conventions have been held at the Marriot since they opened? Remember the 'selling' point way back when "We have many organizations standing in line wanting to come to Junction City for reunions and other events but we don't have a place for them to go to!" As Tom Cruise once said "Show me the Money!" in this case show me the numbers.

A no vote will hurt any and all property owners. Taxes go up prices go up, rent goes up. Renters and business go away, then the burden continues to grow on the people that do pay taxes. Obviuosly the people that want a no vote don't own property. You will also be affected in the end if you rent or shop in JC. Smarten up it will cost you to.

Tax realtor commissions. Have them report their commissions for every quarter or year to the city, and have them pay a tax on that. Other cities have income tax, and we too can tax those that got us into this.
I've been bitching about the nrp since it came into existence. I've read the statute enough times to know we are violating the intent of it. And when the building is the improvement, we lose big time.
Read this. If you haven't read it before, it is shocking. If you have, well. it's still shocking. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4179/...

The convention center is bringing in conventions BUT - the CVB has nothing to do with bringing them in - the question should be what is the CVB doing to bring people to JC. There is a lot of opportunity, lets give the money to those who will do the right job

Heldstab's garage had no NRP funding. He went over that and put his own finance situation on public record at a prior city commission meeting.

Have my annual property tax increase by who knows how much or pay more in sales tax; got to vote yes; can't risk having the commission figure out how much more to increase property taxes.

Why do we need a tax increase, after all, the ex city manager and Bond Council said our Debt was manageable, Didn't they? Surely, they wouldn't lie, would they?

Scott Johnson and Jack Taylor during the last commission meeting were the only ones that stated at the meeting that they didn't want any mill levy increase and told our new manager to find a way to accomplish that goal. The 3 stooges just sat there, Terry cried crocodile tears for MAC.

I don't give a damn if Scott and Jack or rich or poor, I want them to stop as much of the tax increases that they can so that I am not poor.

Now we need a full campaign to get the county to do the same thing. For them to say thaat there is nothing to cut is outrageous.
